When it came to some of the DQ’s, some folks were being lenient and that can create problems, when I was asked to step in and help keep the bracket running smooth, Spero Gin also helped me out a lot and we kept that place cooking.
an example of a DQ:
Call out with the Bullhorn in the Tekken room.
Call out with the Bullhorn in the SF4 room.
No communication of a tourney for this person in any other capacity
Call out in the Tekken room, 5-10 mins given
moved on to the next match while his opponent waits on deck
after next set of matches one more call in the Tekken room
DQ’d & their opponent moves on.
that is fair beyond measure. while it can suck to wait on a long bracket, its not fair to keep the whole tournament waiting on people that are not talking to the tourney handlers. if someone tells us they are in matches and we call them and we are told they are playing in those matches, we move on to the next match and come back to this player later. That can hold up the tourney but we can understand why and work with that.
another example, one player was DQ’d after the above attempts did not work to get him, we had no idea where he was. Tourney started at 12pm on Sunday,
this player walks in at 2pm…and complains he was DQ’d…O_O
2pm…complained that he wanted to ask for special permission because he needed to leave the state and come back, can you imagine if we give everyone special permission to take 2 hours to appear for their matches…ARE YOU SERIOUS…
I can be pretty mercilous about attendance at a tournament. To me you’re players competing at a major and you are expected to be present, playing other competitions simultaneously being understood - waiting, presenting when called (meaning listening when called) and being patient for your matches is a part of this life. I know…132+ people on a bracket is not easy, this is serious business…
especially if people are making attempts to call you and get you from your hotel room…or wherever else you are as opposed to being in another match somewhere else or waiting on your match to come up.
There were a few reversals, and that was at the discretion of the organizers, I normally would never reverse a decision because its arbitrary, I keep it to the book. I reversed one decision because it was a mistake made by another organizer and we were able to fix the issue without it affecting the tournament.
Running these puppies is hard enough without trying to break the rules.
with all that said, much love again, and crap I missed Spero Gin in my shoutouts…DUDE~! Your awesome, and thank you for helping me on Sunday wrangling the players to make it nice and smooth.
