North Carolina Thread LXIV

I don’t know this for sure but guard breaks should be pretty rare, because I mean you have C+D counter and A+B counter and because of the meter gain on block odds are you should probably take a guess out with one of those before getting your guard broke. Like all I know is that if only have like 3-4 hits before my guard is broken I’m going to be looking for A+B/C+D counter escapes like a hawk. I mean yeah you lose a meter but 1) eating a full combo or 2) losing a meter for a chance of getting baited and then eating a full combo hmmm, I think I’m going to go with option 2.

I was pretty excited about this game and in the arcade version I saw C+D counter used ALOT whenever people dropped around 1/3 guard or lower.

Lol @ Emil posting here. AGAIN.

 1. Shut the fuck up.
 2. Wheel your dungeon lurking ass to Final Round and play me in XI if you think I’m a scrub in that game. I may be a scrub in 98 and 02, but I’ll beat the fuck out of you in XI.
 3. Shut the fuck up.

I said people would take off the rose colored glasses and start to criticize KoF13 just like every other fighting game out there, but I didnt expect it in…3 weeks.

I just said that 3 weeks ago. Anyway, lolz.

Doesnt matter how legit a game is. Since the game is fresh the initial losses still make the game fun because people are “learning” …after a while when people consistently lose to the OP tactics and top tier KoF13 will get just as much hate as any other game. Getting pushed in the corner with no meter is just as helpless as any other situation where you have the odds stacked against you heavily. Ease of use and execution is such a trivial selling point.

But what do I know I’m hyped about Dead Or Alive 5.

I hope there’s a jiggle meter for titties.

lol, NC’s hate aura is so strong that people from out of state come in to hate. It’s much needed though, the KoF13 bashing needs to stop NOW. Give the shit a chance. Whether you realize it or not, people’s opinions are affected by what is said on forums, and if an older SNK player says the game is ass, someone might listen if they didn’t know better.

Also hi RogueYoshi, you still running that Dorm / Dante setup in UMVC3?

Kinda get over Zero then.

Really, what can a character like Duo Lon do vs the double kicks? And sure his specials are unsafe but he’s got good normals and easy hit confirms. Doesn’t matter if that shit is unsafe if he can do a bunch of lights into df+HK and then go into one of his longer combos. He gets that stuff off any hit.

I’m not really bitching about him though, or atleast that wasn’t my intention. Just trying to make the comparison of Saiki to an existing strong character that is tournament legal.

All these arguments about KOF XIII can be completely avoided if people would actually PLAY THE GAME and not go off of “he said” “she said” “I saw this in a video” type stuff. The game is there. Play it. If you think something is up in the game, test it. Stop assuming.

Kyo, just like a lot of other characters, have some unsafe stuff. The problem is running into people who can’t properly time when to punish. But this can be fixed through practice. This isn’t SFIV where you can just buffer the DP and win every time. You gotta know the timing. Just like when fighting against Andy, Terry, Shen, and other characters. But aside from Kyo having unsafe tools, the hit boxes for some of his moves are really good. I wouldn’t say Kyo is broken, but I wouldn’t say you should underestimate him either.

When it comes to guard breaks others have already pointed that out. Gonna test my theory Shen since they took out the super guard break from the arcade version, but there may be ways around that.

CD guard breaks work well because even though you give very little damage to your opponent, you can reset the momentum of the match with them unlike with AB. But in some cases that little bit of damage can be HUGE overall towards the match.

I will when Capcom fixes him so I can actually airthrow the little bastard whenever he jumps next to me and starts flailing around with his little toy laser sword like a retard.

Roll out? Or better yet, you can guard roll the move before the QCF+K and then punish the hell out of Kyo.

Most of Kyo’s longer combos really don’t happen unless you are in the corner, in which case, you screwed up big time. His corner carry is pretty good, but the fact that he has only a few options on block makes me feel like his offense is a bit more limited, at least in comparison to some characters.

I understand, I’ve just been seeing you mention him a lot since the game came out. Like what you said above, people’s opinions are affected by what is said on the forums. If someone who may be seen as a good player repeatedly says something, people might start believing it.

I advise to test it out yourself, but don’t think this is a surefire way against grappler characters. You can still get baited into doing this and punished with something else, but if you learn it this can help get you out of some nasty situations.

Yeah, alternate guard has been in KOF for a while. The traditional counter is to simply go low, since your opponent will not be holding down back continuously. It’s good to see the newer generation investigating stuff like this.

I concur with Beast Of Fire, good work there young one. This is what I am talking about…learning game engine fundamentals. I think we did go over this at Doom’s house as well. Like i keep saying people are going to die to game engine and basic frame punishment in the beginning. Very impressive, good work.

on the note of shiki…

I understand what you said and how you feel. I did not like XI because people on small jump (b) were converting on the attack to half life and the frame advantage on small jumping was so bad the you could not use standing( a) "a traditional small jump spam interrupt to stop that ie:Gato. If there was a game that had mindless rush down and a overcompensated zone game it was XI.

Information blast:(guard cancle roll carries the same amount invincible frames as XI but you need meter to do it) regular roll invincible frames have been shortened XIII.

small jump 96

small jump XI =STUPID (roll range was the same, just had more invincible frames)

VERY IMPORTANT!!!

On Saiki, I’m more concerned about him right now then saying he should be banned. I’d want to see a month or two of results from majors, and not just locals.
Same with the DLC chars.

As for the use of GC roll vs GC blowback, general rule is if the attack is long, use roll, if it’s short, blowback. For example, in older KOF’s stuff like Ralf’s Vulcan Punch DM on block (this move isn’t in XIII, though an EX kinda resembles it) would be GC rolled and punished for a full combo. You spend the meter to avoid the chip damage (SDM Vulcan Punch did about 20-25% chip)

As for Duo Lon vs double kicks, he can use meter to get out of that situation, or guess right. Duo Lon as a design is supposed to have problem with folks in his face. Kyo is a little too good in XIII, but he’s not Fei Long AE stupid. You’re Duo Lon, you’re supposed to keep characters like Kyo out of your face anyways.

One thing that helps out KOF as compared to other games in terms of reducing/avoiding the hate is that the mid tier in that game is strong enough that they can steamroll people with disrespect.

BTW Alternate Guard isn’t failsafe. There’s a vid at NEC where Justin exposes a guy for overusing it. Also Maxima can’t AG (unsure if Daimon can).

That said, I prefer a more zoner-friendly KOF myself, but SNK de-emphasized zoning hard after 98. XIII has some zoning though, and you can win with it.

For those who have nothing more than complaints about KOF XIII:

Have you tested it with Maxima? When I get time later today I’m gonna test it with the cast and get back with you on it. The only reason behind Maxima and/or Daimon unable to AG would be I guess their size (even crouching their about the same height as some characters standing up). I’m just happy to see some people investigating things instead of just throwing up their hands and saying “I quit” before they even started.

I didn’t know there was a tournament that close this weekend. I can definitely go to that tournament instead and save myself some time driving.

You guys play BB/AH there as well?

SaiSyu agrees with Sofa King…

Not as much, but there are people like DOT,XSamX,Shinsobeam and Blake/White that know the engine pretty good from what I have seen.

Yea Shinso is a pretty good guy to talk about for that stuff. So is Blake. I dunno how you guys do it I don’t know shit outside of frame data or other things lol.

It’s their size, and was confirmed in arcade (might have changed in console) I don’t think AG is a huge deal, and there’s other things to practice on.
AG seems easier in this (personally I think it’s lame because it’s unintuitive)

For you Sofa King…go to the page watch everything.

I guess I should have known better than try to speak my mind on SRK, since apparently any opinion contrary to the norm is trolling.

–RE: #SNKPlaymore Mafia
Step the fuck out of NC. Stop stalking me on this site, and get me the fuck off your little watchlist or whatever.
You don’t know me personally or this state. You don’t need to come in here and try to white knight the game when absolutely no one is trying to prevent people from playing your precious golden goose.
Saisyu (someone who knows me personally AND is someone who knows more about old-school KOF than I do) asked me my opinion. I gave him my opinion because of those 2 reasons–he knows me, and I knew he would understand what I was talking about. My response was meant for his question only. I’m not trying to convince anyone here to quit the game, I’m not even saying I’m quitting the game.
And since you guys are tracking all my posts…do you actually see me going around outside the NC thread and complaining about the game and trying to get people to drop it?
I’m old-school–I can understand when a game is not trying to cater to me, and still play it in spite of complaints.
Even if I actually was trying to convince anyone in NC to quit…if you knew anything at all about NC, you’d know that absolutely no one here is going to stop playing a game just because I don’t like it.

–RE: Saisyu
Yes, back in the day I didn’t understand why the old heads didn’t like KOF XI, I was just angry that everybody dropped it all of a sudden. The game is what it is, if you like it or hate it, and I understand now the problems that people had with it.
That being said, spending time in training mode has confirmed a lot of suspicions about KOFXIII, and either people accept the flaws or they don’t. It’s still a much better game than Arcade KOF13, and a lot of people who like SF4 and Blazblue will still probably like the game for all the same things I do not like about it.

–RE: Sofa King
See above response. Nobody here is trying to get people to quit. But rest assured that my complaints of the game are from someone who HAS sat down with the game.
But guess what? I’m still going to play the game, and I’m still going to level up my shit even though I suck at KOF13–if for no other reasons other than to beat down the egos of people who think they’re good, and to prove to people exactly what I’m talking about regarding the game.

–RE: Emil
Go beat off to your Daigo snapshots, you cockrider.
