Uh oh, looks like someone hasn’t been keeping up with their internet rumors.

It also means playing a better game than most of the other bullshit you have to choose from at the moment.

Or you know, you can keep playing SF4. I’m sure you have lots left to learn in that game…

Think I woulda liked this one better though, for EX Kyo, just listening to the two:

I was just reading about that. I am excited to see this. Hopefully it will be a solid fix.

I just watched some SBO footage of arcade 13. Jesus christ K and Raiden were assholes.

Drop Kick… jab… Drop kick… CLOTHESLINE

Dead character. Also K did stupid damage mid screen like all the time. Glad it seems harder to combo into that up kick from the fire shot now.

While it is very good KOF 13 play, this really confirms a lot of my suspicions about the gameplay.
Suffice to say, I don’t see myself enjoying KOF13 for much longer…

Your not the only one thats glad about the K’ changes xSamx.

By the way Wolfkrone did very well against Justin Wong. Justin wiffed one cannon spike in the last round of the first set and wolf did not punish him on the way down. Sad, but Wolfkone’s 1st place victory with his type of play is coming soon.

Why do you feel like that Shiki?

I’m actually surprised that you don’t feel the same way, to be honest.
I remember you trashing KOF 13 when it was announced, and while at the time I disagreed with you, I’m beginning to discover that you were pretty much right the first time.

The game is simply not KOF.
That doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s a terrible game that no one should enjoy–I mean KOF XI will probably always be my favorite KOF and that game has a lot of significant differences from “traditional KOF” but while it took out a lot of things out from KOF it also put in a lot of things I personally enjoy.

KOF 13 took out a lot of things from traditional KOF and replaced them with a lot of things that I DON’T enjoy:

–The zoning game sucks now because just about every fireball in the game was nerfed in speed, recovery, size or any combination thereof. That, and the larger screen. Probably the only exception is King whose fireballs are actually BETTER than 2002UM and XI and not coincidentally she’s S-Tier.

–Wakeup game sucks for a lot of characters outside of the corner since most jump-in attacks have like…HALF the hitstun and block stun that they used to. This hurts a lot of character’s options since now they have to do hops and jump-ins MUCH deeper which means they are much more vulnerable to anti-airs.

–Most of the cast’s neutral game is effectively neutered because of those previous points PLUS the fact a lot normals and specials that were safe are now very punishable even WITHOUT GC rolls. Athena’s LK Phoenix Arrow is even punishable on block now. That’s pretty sad when she was total shit in XI and yet it was still safe in that game.

–Guard Meter recovers way too quickly and lasts way too long. Just another system change that rewards turtling over poking.

–About the corner game, because a lot of rolls are not only slower but go shorter distances now, most of the top-tier characters can keep you in the corner and you don’t have any options to get out without using meter. Rolling through hops, jumps or even sloppy moves on reaction isn’t even good enough anymore because the rolls are so short and slow.

–Drive Cancels do too much damage and juggle system basically makes no sense. KOF almost always been about solid fundamentals, spacing, and knowledge, not about huge fancy combos. It’s my opinion that they’re trying too hard to catch the animu FG demographic and the game is going to devolve into who can do their 40-50% Drive combo first. Like in the first Justin Wong/Reynald match, Wong pretty much beat him on fundamentals but because Reynald was able to do 40-50% low-risk, high-reward combos, he won.

–Lastly, an even worse system change from the arcade version is now that you get WAAAAY too much meter from blocking and taking damage in the console version. If you look at the match between Wong/Reynald, Reynald was getting AS MUCH METER FROM BLOCKING Wong’s Athena’s crouching Cs as Wong was getting from landing them.
Not even Arcade KOF 13 (which was a bad game, by the way) was that stupid. Even there you could do 50-70% combo and your opponent might have gotten like 1/3-1/2 of a super bar. In console KOF 13, if you do 50-70% to your opponent they’re probably going to be given about a bar and a half of super meter and close to 100% drive meter.
This obviously a subtle attempt by SNKP to put a semi-comeback mechanic in the game and make the game highly favored into landing 1 big combo rather using fundamentals, poking, and spacing.

I understand all that you have said and for the most part you are right bro. I am in the process of transition as well. But make no mistake, Wong was beat long before he got hit with the nasty combo. You can look at the match and tell he dose not know when he is at advantage. To die hard KOF players we see him making game engine and character punishent mistakes. Kula ice-hurricane punishment gose back to KOF 2000…we all know you can punish in-between. That is what is going to happen to most people in the early rounds, they are going to die to not knowing basic frame punishment that spans almost 4 versions on an old cast.

It was in the arcade, its safe in the console version unless you do like a 1 frame throw super or something.

The meter gain shit is weird I noticed like immediately that players both gain meter at about the same rate no matter what, and whatever I just deal with it you know how you were complaining how you basically have to spend meter to get out of the corner well if your getting hit and blocking that is where you meter is going to go getting out of the corner if your pressuring and running them over your meter can go into doing big damage, at least that is the way I’m looking at it.

I see a trend in games these days.

New game comes out with old game title. New players like it. People that played the old ones look for those games in the new one, are disheartened when it’s something different. Repeat the cycle.

I’m just going to enjoy the game for what it is and not nit pick everything. It’s a fun game. Rolls being slower / shorter is probably because of online play. THey’d be impossible to punish in a laggy environment I imagine. SF4 is slow but that’s also the reason it did so well. The slowness lends itself to making it playable online. Faster games like KoF and Marvel where mixups fly at you at the speed of light, there’s literally no way to react to all of it in time. So I think little decisions like that are more to help the online aspect of the game, which, in this day and age, is very important unfortunately.

This but this isn’t a new trend and it isn’t only games.

OH SHIT a KoF game getting popular I BETTER HATE IT so speaks shiki.
