oh shit your in GSO now? awesome man. i dunno if we can get some games in THIS weekend since the people usually hosting are at apex right now, but we should be able to get some in next week. heres the link to the group http://www.facebook.com/groups/fightinggamersnc/
Anyone in Fayetteville wanna play today?
Yo Rocky Mount people. I live in Tarboro and woud like to meet you guys and play some games. I play UMVC3 and KOF13. I can also play Street Fighter 4 if you guys would want to do that. Do you have a place where we could meet up and play? You can just send me a PM to get the discussion started so we can get in some games!
Good luck finding a venue Jon. I know the one tourney I hosted back in my smash days was actually at a dance studio we rented out. It ran well though it was a ton of work.
I’m just throwing my name in the pot of players at NCSU that are trying to play and get better. I just moved back here and I’m wanting to step my game up. I understand that Jon Slayton is the man to talk to for sessions around here? I’m definitely interested, but need a ride out that way. I’m on Hillsborough so I’m not hard to find. If we can gather some NCSU players around here, maybe we can do saturday sessions at the Den?
Just got an update from jordyn(objection) is currently 5-1 at apex LET’S GOOOOO.
EDIT:he just got knocked out by jeron and his record was 6-2. NC in top 16 baby
BALI HAI’S REVENGE STRIKES AGAIN!
Got some more info on the Wednesday ranbats at Champs. Its on Xbox 360s and I do believe they don’t have the updates for AE, but I could be wrong. Discounts on appetizers and entry is free. First place gets like $20 or something, but considering its free you can’t really complain. Mainly these are gatherings in tournament format to help you get a sense of how you would want to try to perform in an actual “money on the line” tournament IMO. But overall its some Wednesday night fun. Gonna check 'em out myself and see how it goes then hopefully convert many over to KOF. We shall see.
Gamefrog closed down?! That sucks. We shall rebuild. Stronger, than it was before. RIP Durham Gamefrog. Past - 2011/12.
Oh yeah and the video full of black Vegetas, EPIC.
Gonna see about making it out to this. I’ll try to practice up on some UMvC3 so that I’m not as clueless as I am right now.
I’m game for sessions in the Den. I don’t stay far from NCSU’s campus, so I’ll come out if I’m available. I like seeing more stuff going on in Raleigh. If you need a ride to Jon’s just ask him if its cool if you can come out to his sessions and I can give you a ride. I don’t mind bringing people with me, but I have to respect the owner’s property since they are opening their place for others to join in.
I’m liking this “Raleigh Unite” thing we got going here. Let’s keep it going.
Totally. Someone just pick a time for the Den on Saturdays and I’ll be there. I don’t know the hours it holds on Saturdays (I think it was actually closed on Saturdays when I was a freshman/sophomore) and I kinda just got into this thread so I don’t feel like I should be deciding date/times etc haha.
All of my friends and I have a class that ends at 6:30pm on Wednesdays, so we’ll probably just show up at Champs for the sessions afterwards if anything. I think I remember someone said that they have sessions after the tourney…?
One of my less-close friend actually plays with a bunch of people in the library where the consoles are in the common area. I bet there are a few people over there that would be willing to join everyone’s stuff in here that’s going on.
For Jon’s place, does he need setups/games/TVs/sticks/etc? I assume I’d have to bring a setup unless I wanted to be watching people most of the time. I’m not too big on driving to a session to do a lot of watching tbh haha. I’ve got technology up to my eyeballs from watching to develop already :P.
Ahh shit I forgot that the Den is closed on Saturday. It’s been awhile since I’ve been here obviously… Anyway, I can do sessions just about any day of the week, but Tuesday sounds best to me? That will give us Tues. here, Wed. at Champs (I don’t even know what it is.), and Thurs. at Jon’s, pending if he wants us there of course. That would be nice and give the people around here plenty of chances to play during the week. If they can’t make it to one, then we’ll have two others to go to. It would be really nice if we had somewhere to play on the weekend though. I’m game to play just about any time after classes though, which is after about 1:30 each day except Wed. I’m not going to front, but I’m not really good at any particular game but I’m just dying to get better. I’ve been in the middle of nowhere with no one to play, it’s awful haha. I think we could get something awesome started here if we put our brains together.
Edit: Wait, if I remember the Den is open on Sunday right?
Wolves den area is open until like 9-10 everyday. We can meet up there this Saturday if you guys want. Alot of my classes this semester are during afternoon/evenings, so I only have time to do stuff on weekends.
Edit: Wait this saturday is ReSe right?
The Den would be good. Also, there’s a lot of lounge areas at state with TVs, even side rooms you can reserve or something and do gatherings at. We used to do that for GG / Arcana all the time… I remember playing in some laundry room basement of one of the dorms one time, was actually pretty cozy down there.
For gatherings, I do need people to bring setups, as I only have 1 lagless TV, and no fighting games for my X Box other than MK so it’s purely 1 setup and PS3.
GGs tonight to everyone that came out. MTP’s Viper is coming along nice.
On the tournament spots, the way I see it for Pros and Cons:
Game Cafe:
- TVs and Systems already setup, no need to gather people to get their shit AKA MORE RELIABLE.
- Could probably work something out to get cheaper venue rates than somewhere else.
- Possibly laggy TVs
- Hours of operation become an issue going into long tournaments.
Random Place like a ball room or other rented venue:
- More open space for the tournament.
- Less issues with hours
- Extra money goes to the organizers instead of just all to the venue.
- Smaller turn out = money out of pocket for venue.
- More expensive and probably more money up front
- Have to find people to bring equipment
Yup this this Saturday.
With just the old hotel gatherings, people bringing equipment always worked out. You just need to track it or be precise on exactly what you need, check off a list, etc.
I think rented space just inside the beltline would be a good idea. Just have to find something reasonable.
Unless I get a ride, I’m not sure if I could make it out to ReSe. I’m pretty broke and waiting on dat refund money right now. So if everyone is riding out to ReSe this Saturday, then maybe we do it Sunday this week and then Saturday in the weeks after that?
Personally, I’d love it if there were more gatherings/tournaments at NCSU on Saturdays.
If I can get that weekend off (28th I think)- I would want to hit State again for old time’s sake.
I thought about playing some XIII @ My Crib today if I dont end up going to one of My ppl’s Playoff Gathering. If anyone is Interested, hit Me up. (919-225-7984)
Yeah! I’m pretty sure there are tons of players around here that are wanting to play, but only play with just a couple friends instead.
I would think that by the 28th that we can HOPEFULLY come up with some solid plans, so that’s awesome man.
I’m kinda gamed out for this weekend but if you wanna hit up Erik’s tuesday I’ll bring my PS3 for some KoF if you wanna make the long and arduous journey across the street
Apex is quite possibly the worst major I’ve ever witnessed.
The chat is fucking awful.
“How does it feel to know your game is worse than a game that was never intended to be a fighting game.”
“Anyone could be good at marvel you just press buttons.”
“Get this shit off and put smash on, no one cares about Marvel / SF!”
Seriously, Smash players are the scum of the universe.
