Hey, how regular is the thing in Talley at NCSU? I was too sick to go last Saturday and was wondering when the next one would be.
Because of finals and christmas coming up it’s unlikely but still possible there will be some more going on but I know for sure that next month is gonna be more.
It still does. You lose half of your guard primers when you green burst.
imo, i dnt think the dlc characters should be legal until the next tournament just to give everyone time to get them and be comfortable with how they play. And if people keep saying the game is gonna get killed, it will if you keep saying that ( at least in nc). Just chill and let shit rock. This is a good game lets not fuck it up
Ah something I didn’t notice. Good to hear it’s still in there somewhat. That seems like it’d be a serious issue for the characters with fewer guard primers but that’s the sacrifice you take by using it which is something I like. I really can’t wait to see what people are going to complain about when 2012 hits because Yun won’t be an excuse anymore for losing and hating the game.
people love to misinterpret statements. when i said this bs is going to killt he game, i meant all the people finding something to complain about. legal this, legal that. dlc blah blah blah. i mean, half these motherfuckers cant even play the existing cast but wanna complain because something new is given to them. i will NEVER abandon KoF, the same way i NEVER abandon Tekken.
also speaking of KoF, I do think I will be shuffling things with my team just a little. im finding some neat tricks using the HD bypass which is making anchor characters dangerous when placed at point. get hit by stand C and die kind of shit.
also lets CONFIRM DeMo ReSe carpool

We normally try to set it up whenever other tourneys arn’t going on, in the state. With Rese next week and finals and Christmas I don’t really see it happening soon.
edit: In my quest to get as many random people playing KOF as possible, I noticed something weird people big SF or Marvel backgrounds get really outperformed by the smash players o_O, in KOF, must be something with all the rolling and shorthopping, and just the way basic pressure is applied.
So I’ve been frustrated trying to rework my team and I’m just gonna post here for advice. I normally don’t like to do this but I’m being frustrated. I’m currently using Wesker/Dormammu/Doom but out of those characters I only like Dormammu and I’m comfortable with him being in that 2nd character slot. I want to replace the other 2 though. I want my 1st character to be a good battery to build meter for 2nd character while my 3rd character must provide a good assist for my 1st and 2nd character while at the same time being a good anchor. In other words:
1st - Builds meter
2nd - Burns meter
3rd - Assist/Anchor
Builds meter–Felicia, just use “COOKIE” until you die
Anchor–Hsien-Ko
Hope this helps.
Yeah I feel you on that. I mean personally, I know you’re going to hate me for this, but I actually like Iori’s character design. I just hate claw iori. Flames iori actually has moves I want on a character lol. So that gives me a chance to play a character I’m interested in. Like I said I don’t think TOs should have to spend their own money to get the characters if they don’t personally want them, but I also think they should be legal (maybe not this tournament since he just came out but maybe the next one).
So the main points.
- Make them legal.
- TOs don’t HAVE to buy them.
- Play them at your own risk. Your character may not always be available.
So you definitely don’t want wesker? He’s pretty good for Dorm and he could fill the battery slot or the anchor slot.
Wolverine is still good. You could always do Wolverine / Dorm / Akuma or Ryu or Frank or something. Wolverine Dorm Wesker… hmm I wonder if dark hole works for berserker slash?
Anyway if you wanna maximize Dorm, give him an assist that either pins people down or lets you get in from long range / buys dorm some time. Jam session is perfect for him IMO since it fills all the roles he needs.
You should just pick who you like and see if you can work things around instead of trying to tier whore though. Who fits WILL, and not just who fits at the top of the tier list.
We’re not some major though, it’s not like TO’s really provide any more than one or two systems max, most of it is provided by the community. Really, as long as one person has the character you should be good to go just hold their match for the setup that has the character downloaded on. If I played Platinum in BBCS2 I would be pissed if I can’t pick my character just because she’s DLC and have to go in to the match being forced to play someone else. Back in the days of Lucky’s, Gamefrog it was if you’re bringing the system to get your venue comped or a free game or some shit make sure to have all the major dlc (not costume packs). I do agree though this saturday would be somewhat dumb to have him playable just because he came out this tuesday but next EZ unless they find some reason to ban him I would expect to see it. Also yea Platinum is a major character in a different game and very unique but it’s not really TOO different from Iori with flames who I consider to have even more differences than even Ken and Ryu.
We should have a 10 man bracket this Sat, should
As a non-trolling response, Ghost Rider is one of the best battery characters in the game and has great synergy with Dorm.
By synergy you mean both their heads are on fire so they’re a good counter pick for hats?
Rider does good with an assist that lets him control space / combo off of j.S. Dark Hole doesn’t really fill that role except at a specific range. Beams or projectiles like taskmasters arrows are more suited for him imo. Rider’s assists are probably decent for dorm though. The wall bounce whip could be used to combo mid screen off flame carpet relaunches, or just use the firebreath assist for OTGs.
Yes, and that’s why you have MORE THAN ONE assist, isn’t it? Why exactly would GR need more than 1 zoning assist?
Dark Hole is used more for Ghost Rider’s OTG, and Dorm can reliably DHC from anywhere on the screen, which why he’s an ideal 2nd slot behind GR on point.
Well Rider also needs something to control the air IMO. He’s not very threatening if you just super jump. He needs jam session or up arrows or hidden missiles to be effective I think. j.H isn’t scary enough to deter people from just super jumping at you. So if you’re using rider on point with Dorm’s dark hole and a projectile assist, you have no upwards cover. I guess you could run pillar assist but eh…
Who here in the RDU area plays KOF? I know Hoc4life does and there are a few others who I’ve played with that I know. Who else? Also who in the RDU area is interested in going to EZ (show of hands please) next Saturday (12/17)?
@Smokin Joe: How many players would you say are up in Fayetteville that you know play KOF? Just curious.
@Hoc4life: KOF XIII is being played over here, but tomorrow SamuraiX is hosting so I would say PM him asap for details. Plus if you stay near OMD then we could see about playing some KOF Friday as well if he decides to host. If not then I’m probably gonna just be playing MvC3 if Doom hosts.
Actually I’m probably not hosting tomorrow… needa reset my schedule to be awake for RESE… as such, no gathering on 0 hours of sleep. Sorreh guys. See everyone in Charlotte.
Regarding the whole DLC debate, do whatever you want for the time being, but once the majors state their position on the matter, that should be the standard our locals go by. Otherwise we will be putting ourselves at a disadvantage when we travel.
Personally, I think it’s better to allow than ban. If we ban the DLC characters now, then if we travel to tournaments where those characters are allowed, we may end up getting bodied for free by stuff we’ve never seen. On the other hand, if you allow the DLC characters, and they end up being banned, then it’s on the players themselves to have other characters to play. If you main a DLC character, you do so understanding the risk that you may end up at a venue where your character is not available, so having a backup plan is important.
As far as whether or not Flame Iori is broken, he certainly isn’t overpowered, but old KOF heads will tell you, do NOT sleep on him. He is still a very powerful character and I personally like him better than Claw Iori, even though I think Claw Iori has higher damage right now. His command grab is actually deceptively fast, the animation may look slow but you will still be guessing as to when he’s gonna do it (still combos off of lights too). Having a DP in general is a solid option and his EX DP is stupid; it has a ton of invincibility and can be Drive cancelled easily for more combo. You can use the heavy DP and Drive cancel on hit for combo extensions from any position, whether it hits grounded or airborne (on grounded, you can do command grab or EX fireball/EX Rekkas, depending on position, on air you can do Rekkas and follow up with more depending on your meter). His meterless damage is pretty good and using a Drive cancel helps you extend his combos pretty well, making him a pretty solid battery character. Rekkas are unsafe, which is a first for Iori, but they are still a hit confirmable combo into a HARD knockdown. This is huge, as it makes it very hard to keep Iori off of you once he gets going. Run grab is combo only, but the EX one is a command grab like Kyo’s, and it can OTG, adding good damage to some combos. All in all, I’m very pleased with him.
@Brent: What time is the AH3 session? Also could you PM me the address.
@Hoc4life: Would you be able to play Thursday?
@Old Man Doom: How’s Thursday looking for you? Would you be down to play some then?
