Ghost Rider can go suck a dick.
People already judging the game on day 5 tournament play? Sounds good to me.
It’s not like the shit is gonna change. Can people block unseeable mixups after playing the game for longer? Is XF3 gonna do less damage with more game experience? Are there going to be less characters geared towards blind mixups and easy BS the longer we play? I think these are fair things to say day 1. Maybe making assumptions on who’s good and who’s not isn’t fair at this point but the rest, very much valid.
I can remember a lot of stuff people said was broken day 1 in Vanilla that got thrown to the wayside too. But again, this is pretty typical.
Yeah I suppose so but I think we’ve played vanilla long enough and this game is similar enough that we’re much better educated in what’s good now.
Hi everyone. I just moved here to Wilmington from Chicago, and I’m wondering if there’s any kind of scene in town. I’m used to going to weekly gatherings and monthly tournaments. Fayetteville seems to be the closest place you guys hold tournies to me, which is kind of a haul away from here. What’s the turnout like over there?
I play UMvC3, AE, and to a lesser extent MK9. Feel free to add me on XBL at Limb0 (that’s a zero at the end), although I’ll probably only be playing UMvC3 for awhile.
Good times at EZ. Too bad MK9 and BB died MARVEL LOL, ok I’m tired now, see yall at the next one.
For those who haven’t gotten on KOF XIII yet, you should Tuesday. No more do you have to tolerate bad games that you dislike just because they have the name “Capcom” on it. No more do you have to spend money to beta test for a company who obviously only wants your money, not your opinion. And lets face it, if KOF XIII was the same EXACT game but had “Street Fighter,” “Capcom,” and/or “Ryu” and “Ken” on it no one would even play marvel anymore.
But on the subject of MvC3 the game is still broken. If you’re looking for a well balanced competitive fighting game then you’re looking in the wrong place. MvC3 is fun, this I will stand by. But as a competitive fighter, I’d rather play with gems in SFxT. Not every fighting game is meant to be competitive. Some should just be fun to play, that’s it. The main problem with MvC3, besides the fact that so many people are willing to throw their money to Capcom, is that they’re trying to give you all the stuff that made MvC2 so good. Minus you actually having to work for any of it. There were so many things in MvC2 that were found out later in the game’s life that players had to discover. Now in MvC3 Capcom gives you all those things. I know there’s the argument of “The game hasn’t even been out for a week yet,” but even when reading through the strategy guide Capcom pretty much tells you that they meant for it to be stupid broken. And they meant for certain things to work out in a particular stupid way. When A, B, C, S, auto jump (WTF?), A, B, C, S, hyper is a not only a standard combo for EVERY character, but a good one, that should tell you something.
Back to KOF XIII, you should get it if not at least try it out. And actually sit down and practice the mechanics of the game.
I actually agree with this for the most part.
In other news. Congrats to Jimmy for two things at EZ last night…
1st. for getting 3rd and churning that butter in SF4.
2nd. For saying the funniest thing I’ve heard in years. This isn’t word for word but it went something like this…
“People love comebacks! If Jesus was working on a perfect against Adolf Hitler and Hitler starting coming back, all the people would be going like ‘OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHH!!!’”
More broken than vanilla? You can’t possibly be serious, did everyone already forget the things available in vanilla? Phoenix, Wolverine, DHC glitch, invincible assists, etc. none of the shit shown so far in ultimate is more broken than that stuff was. I thought hindsight was 20/20 but we’re gonna need to go back to the doctor on that one. Ultimate most definitely still has some broken shit, but lets not pretend that it’s somehow worse than vanilla was by any measurable standard.
If i get hit by zero and have to watch a 900 hit combo, I’m gonna lose it lol. HAHAH good casuals man considering I choked playing against you in the tourney. SIGH FOOT DIVE, hit the ground FOWARD H instead of standing H. Got dammit i would have at least won that one lol.
Damn, damn, damn, TWC went out right in the middle of watching you guys. Ugh. I hate that shit. I was so looking forward to watching KOF and chat with you guys cause I couldn’t be there. Oh well to the archives.
How did it go? Did I miss anything?
We can pretend this is true for now, but I bet in a few months we’re gonna be looking back and saying “man, I can’t believe anyone ever thought such-and-such was good, so free.” It happens. Everyone is always so quick to pass judgment on games these days.
As bold as this may sound, this type of opinion is nothing new, and really doesn’t have much of a basis. The same people who hate on what we have available to play now are gonna hate on KOF XIII once the shiny newness of it wears off and people get tired of being killed in one long combo.
While this sounds reasonable, this has almost no basis in reality. It’s like people just forgot that all the “great” fighting games that were played before the SF4 era were full of broken stuff, stuff that was WAY more broken than most of the stuff in games today. Again, judging on day 5 or 6? Sheer brilliance. UMvC3 will probably be a completely different game ten times over within the next six months, with different characters and tactics being alternately referred to as broken. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Now, here’s an actual valid point, and it’s something most of the new games do (including KOF XIII, by the way) that a lot of the older players hate. The games are basically catering to the new players and being designed in this “play by numbers” manner. But the thing is, the players themselves have repeatedly demonstrated that, just like the old days, they can figure out things in the game the developers were not able to account for. Even the stuff in the guide, as good as it is, will not end up as the final word of how to play the game. And as for that last sentence, I know there’s some hyperbole there, but that is almost patently false on so many levels.
Again, wait a month or two after KOF XIII comes out, and you will find the same people bitching about how dumb it is that SNK designed every character to be able to do the same Hyper Drive combo into 100% damage off of any random hit.
What happened?
It doesn’t matter because few people are going to play what they like they’d rather play games they win at and make money off them than games they actually enjoy. Although I can respect that, making money is certainly something important in today’s world. Although yea I definitely decided with the whole going hard on 3S and KOF13 to get out of my comfort zones because I suck ass at them but they are so much fun I don’t even care. I think 3S, KOF13 and AH3 are my only games I like enjoy on the creative/high level play stuff. AE is so meh but i’ll still enter it at ez fridays and maybe a tournament every now and then.

Chill the fuck out, people. We haven’t come even close to the worst of it yet. I’m not exactly sure what you were expecting; if you didn’t like the first Marvel, you won’t like this one.
You can really tell who’s been competing for a long time and who hasn’t based on week 1 reactions to a new game. It’s staggering.
Whatever the game…Everyone starts off balanced from the jump…When you have the option of picking the exact same characters…and doing the exact same strategy…
Woah woah you have to hit people deep or score counter hit to follow off of jump ins now, and in an air to air situation unless you hit a counter hit all you can do is super and that is it. In the arcade at least 100% except for a few exceptions normally required a clean jump in start followed by blowing your entire hyper drive and 4-5 meter alot of people needed to be in the corner too. It appears you can activate hyperdrive in the air now so some of that stuff may change stuff a bit and allow more confirms into hyper drive bullshit.
I like KOF XIII so far because it is fast and exciting, and mixups are actually mixups unless of blind 50/50s.
ummmmm everyone is entitled to an opinion…some of the reactions are a tad bit knee-jerk but every is entitled to voice themselves.
im not gonna complain about Marvel because I knew it was gonna be more of the same eventually. besides, I dont care because I have KoFXIII to play.
im so glad people actually picked it up and played yesterday, gave me hope. but next time we play I will be doing ACTUAL drive cancel combos instead of my day 1 auto chain, HD, EX, juggle, super lol.
EDIT
“the reason fighting games are the way they are today is because the developers know that people LOVE comebacks. its human nature. REAL TALK if you were at EVO and Jesus Christ was working on a perfect against Adolf Hilter and then Hitler popped X-Factor and made a comeback, the whole room would explode and cheer for Hitler” (while mimicking the Nazi salute)
Jimmy…is SO GDLK
I dunno, I think KOF13 will be really fresh. It’s quick and offensive but at the same time it’s fundamental. Any hits you land, you earned. 100% combos don’t just happen when a character has 0 meter, they atleast have to have it built up over the course of multiple matches… and land a legit hit on you that’s not like… I just dashed behind you with Zero with no meter and called Dante and now your whole team is dead.
Really looking forward to it. First real manly mans game to come out in a while.
And don’t get me wrong about Marvel, it’s still fun. I guess I just had hopes for it that were… let down a bit.
