Is it just me or do we always get new players coming in here boasting their skill level?

There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with being humble. In the long run people will like you more if you’re a top player and you’re actually nice to be around. Not some cocky jerk.
If he’s as good as he says he is then that would be nice cause it will make the Fayetteville scene stronger. I just put that post on blast cause I noticed we’re falling into a pattern of new players coming in boasting their skill level then being put on notice. Personally I don’t care either way cause I try my best to ignore those posts but it’s definitely a bad way to introduce yourself into a new community cause it just rubs people off the wrong way. I’m new to the scene, but I don’t pretend that I’m hot shit because it would be pretty easy to find out that I’m a fraud, lol.
I think the phenomenon behind it was back in the day before the Internet, people had no idea there were actual Street Fighter tournaments or how good people really could get, and they were able to beat all their friends in grade school who didn’t even know how to fireball and thus think they were good. One you go to a tournament and get bodied badly you get humbled real quick.

Honestly, the best way to humble new players is to play them and beat them down, rather than putting posts on blast. Let someone think they’re good until proven otherwise.
I also agree that being humble is probably a better attitude than being boastful. The more you think you know, the harder it is to get better. And as Austin mentioned, people will like you more. I know that’s not necessarily a primary goal for someone in a competitive scene, but it makes your time in the community a lot more pleasant.
I wasn’t boastful but I did kinda think I was better than everyone else because I was beating friends, classmates, randoms online. It wasn’t until I started playing in competitive online leagues and did my first session and tournament that I realized I have a little ways to go. So I decided to just start from the beginning and I’ve been looking at the Newbie thread on learning the fundamentals and I’m starting to not make the mistakes I normally do and I realize how effective good practice is even if I don’t get enough time to do so.
this has gotta stop happening every time a new player says their good, or thinks their good, or what have you.
