hello i have a mcz sf4 te stick and it has a ps360+. was wanting to easily put this: http://www.focusattack.com/bi-color-balltop-green-yellow/ on it as well, single color led either white, yellow, or green on all the time. i know ill definitely need an led and some sort of wire… probably a pcb for the led so im definitely a noob i was wondering how difficult it might be and if anyone could lend me their expertise and wisdom. thanks to all repliers

was also wondering how much harder it would be to mod it to light up on activation

You need a hallow joystick shaft, some very thin wire, 30 to 32 gauge.
if that wiring isn’t going to a LED controller board, have a resistor (300 ohm would work) on the positive line.
A 3mm LED, some sandpaper to rough up the LED surface a bit to diffuse the light.

The Ball top will have to be drilled to allow space for the LED.

The positive wire needs to connect to your boards VCC
the negative to Ground.

Shouldn’t be too hard, even for a noob. On top of the led you will need an appropriate resistor as well as a hollow shaft for your led to be inserted into. AFAIK focus attack no longer sells them, and I don’t think they stock 3mm or similar sized LEDs to use. For this LED mod I would recommend paradisearcadeshop.com since they have hollow shafts, pre-wired LEDs, and the bi color ball top.

If you want a constantly lit led you will probably need to solder or alternatively use quick splice terminals (which I wouldn’t recommend since that aren’t always a solid connection). You will need to connect the anode line (+) on your led to the VCC line on your arcade sticks pcb and the cathode line (-) to the ground line on your pcb. This is where soldering comes in. Also if you buy an led from another shop you will need to add a resistor to your circuit, but paradise arcade has theirs pre wired with a resistor.

Light up on activation can easily be accomplished via an led controller pcb such as the FGW led controller by toodles from gdlk.co (needs soldering) or by paradise arcade shops kaimana. The latter requires a less simple setup due to the single color led and since I don’t know your soldering ability I can’t really say what options you have.

Either way unless you have a modded make adjustments to a pcb, you will eventually have to solder.

If you order your ball top from Paradise Arcade, they can drill your ball top for you on request.

Just noticed I got ninja’d by @darksakul

thanks alot you guys… found all the parts just need to know where i can find a resistor or if i even really need it. i dont think this project will be too hard cuz the ps360+ installation wasnt too bad. gracias for all the knowledge you guys are baby bird feeding me

sorry just reread your post pnoy, thanks i plan on using the one from paradise with the fgwidget cuz its cheaper and looks easier to use

would you guys personally think the balltop would look better with green or white led? i dont know how much of a difference the led color will matter

I think white would be best @rob630.

I’d just go white with the bi color unless your stick as art or colors that fit a greenish tint. Honestly when it comes down to this it’s all about what you would like. I personally would go for white though, let the full color of the LED not be tinted by the light.

As for a resistor, just order from Paradise Arcade (Which I will refer to as PAS) they have their LEDs already prepped as I said in my post above.
