Not interested in Gaiden you mean?
It’s not. I mean NOW, I don’t think RE is that good at all. The boss fights to me suck because 1)Health recovery is stupid. I stock ninpo for it and it doesn’t really do that much. 2)They’re pretty boring 3)I can only land a few hits before having to distance myself constantly. 4)Ryu doesn’t do much damage which makes it even worse. 5)attacking the enemy sucks because if you are too committed to a combo, they’ll do the red glow grab which I now constantly avoid. These factors drag out the fight and make them extremely boring. it feels like I can’t pressure the opponent like I could in previous NGs and now have to play a game of extreme cat and mouse. I want to kill the bosses faster but there’s nothing I can do to speed it up.
In other games even if the enemy had a point in which you couldn’t risk attacking them (Vergil when he DTs) you could at least keep up the pressure. In NG3, you’re always running away. Like vs the mask dude round 2, I pretty much had to wait for him to whiff whatever and hope it gave me a large enough window to land in enough damage and retreat because if I tried to fight him at all, he would just go through whatever I was doing. Thus dragging out the fight.
yeah, i don’t understand that at all. that’s not a boss fight.
more like a old fashion gun fight from what ure saying.
This is what I mean. Look at how this fight goes. Go to 33 mins in.
-Ryu cannot fight the boss because the boss can blow through anything Ryu does.
-Any attack Ryu has does shit damage.
-If it charges you don’t even have to be in the path of it’s head, it’s side alone will do damage.
-Blocking is pointless because you still take chip damage
38 mins. Same thing I’m talking about. Constant low damage hits, constant evading and running away. This is not the super ninja Hayabusa from NG2 and NG1. Getting in close is risky because some attacks are fast enough that you cannot evade in time since she can bypass hitstun.
Yea the bossfights are DMC2-tier. All of them are garbage. I’ve never been a fan of the bosses in Ninja Gaiden to be honest. They always felt way too much like cat & mouse to me. But these bosses made that even worse on top of them being lame as shit.
On a different note: Fuck Ultimate Ninja. The difficulty wouldn’t be as bad if I actually had access to all of my equipment/skills. And on top of that, all the skills/weapons are way too overpriced. I never liked how you had to start from scratch everytime you start a new game on a higher difficulty. That’s the fun of a higher difficulty. Using all the tools/broken shit you acquired and having to use them beat the tougher enemies.
Aside from some of the heavier Y attacks, you can actually Slide cancel the recovery of most combos during the last few frames, just hold Block towards the end of your combos if you sense trouble incoming, and Slide to the side and continue attacking. A lot of times you’ll get Furious Wind and be safe. I dunno man, I died a bunch figuring it out, but I got the Regent on Ultimate Ninja with Level 1 Lunar in about a minute and 30 seconds on each round. I’d just wait for him to start attacking, block and slide the first hit and wind up next to him and starting tagging him with XXY stuff. Soon as I’d see him wind up an attack, I blocked and slid around him, but I was pretty much right in his face the whole time. Second round you have to watch for his Red Hand, which honestly is the only boss Red Hand I can’t figure out, but anytime you see him doing it, with Lunar just tap Y and you’ll knock him out of it.
Lunar’s kinda of wonky in that it doesn’t have SOB attacks on bosses, but it’s YY attack strings can lock down lots of bosses in this…it’s OTs work exactly the same as counter versus regular enemy Red Hands. Regent probably has the toughest Red Hand to dodge in the game, any of the other Ryu-sized bosses with Red Hands you can SOB them pretty easily with any of the other weapons that can SOB
Basically, any Ninja enemy variant, and the smaller fiends like the purple Imps from NGB or those spiny fast guys you can SOB their attacks as soon as you see them charging up. The larger guys like those zombie ones that mutate into Hulk/Snake enemies and all of the Ryu-sized bosses you can bulldog them into doing a Red Hand, slide cancel away from it, then slide right back in and SOB them. You can nail them if your timing is perfect, or by getting option select SOBs(like doing Scythe 360+Y on landing, if they don’t Red Hand, you’ll keep spinning, if they do Red Hand it will instantly do SOB), but aside from the Regent, the other bosses have pretty long recovery on their Red Hands, so the Slide away, slide right back SOB worked well for me. I dunno, now that the SOB mechanic makes sense I was tearing the bosses up on Master, SOB hurts them badly health wise
You said, you died A LOT. Yeah, that is what is happening to me. I’m abusing SoB as much as possible too. Like those grip of murder sequences. The Regent, I was pretty much keeping my distance and taking a crack a small openings. The God Prototype boss was pretty much: attack>evade whatever>xN>she tries to grab>counter. It’s the most damaging thing I can do vs her. No idea what slays the T-Rex though.
Still it’s my first playthrough on Normal. I neglected SoB in the demo but I’m abusing it as much as possible now.
Edit: I made it to the Day 6 boss fight. And this guy is the BIGGEST offender of what I mean regarding the boss fight. You cannot fight him at all. Attacking him puts you at risk of getting hit with his UT at pointblank NO CHARGE straight out of hitstun. So the whole fight is me evading while staying close and punishing his whiffed UTs with a SoB. You can rack in bits of damage by bullying him with the Falcon Claws but that’s too risky. So nothing really works but SoB. The way to beat him is piss easy but this is why these aren’t boss fights.
Well, yeah, it’s trial and error just like all of NG’s stuff, but once you start picking up tendencies you just start exploiting them faster and faster.
That God Prototype fight on Master? Master Ninja difficulty, they always crank up the stamina, but even then that guy is taking way too long, he could have done SOB(38:30-40:00) easily on every one of those Red Hands.
The dinosaur I totally agree with you, it truly is probably the lowest Gaiden has sunk in boss design, equal with Sigma 2’s Statue of Liberty fight(you fight the actual statue). Hell, I’d go to E3 just ask Team Ninja 2 questions:
Who designed the Dinosaur Boss in NG3, and does that designer still have a job in the gaming industry?
It really is pretty bad, I was surprised they changed it so little, and I feel your frustration…
The only thing you can really do against him is jump/slide and wait for his dumb ass to run into the wall and fall over. Jump the puff of smoke(that damages you, lol) and slash him on the head. Once you have his health about 1/3 down, start hitting Y when you run up and Ryu will eventually do an OT on him, then the dino becomes armored. Once he’s armored, for some reason if you jump, he will endlessly run around, but if you just do Slides over and over without jumping, he’ll fall into the same dumb ass pattern of running into the wall and falling over. Run up slash, and hope it ends quickly. He fucking sucks as a boss, no doubt about that, probably the single worst one in the hardcore action genre
They were actually way cheaper grab-wise in vanilla NG3, but I don’t think they’re as cheap as Fiend Genshin got on Master in NG2…NG2 had some evil stuff going with the 4 greater fiends aside from Volf. I liked Ninja Gaiden boss fights when they you were facing the Ryu-sized enemies, but the setpiece giant bosses always had some kind of ramming bullshit. Murai and Doku fights in NGB were epic back in the day. Team Ninja should take some cues from MGR as how to up the quality of their boss fights, MGR’s were great…and MGR should take some cues about NG series handles general enemy combat, needed way more of it, lol.
Ultimate, yeah it sucks you can’t carry stuff over from other difficulties, but that’s Ninja Gaiden. At least you can pick and choose what you want to upgrade instead of it being farmed out over the course of the game. I’m having fun with it just cuz it forces me to get better, but TN was always brutal with starting you at zero.
MGR suffered from it being rushed and the fact the game was announced in 2009 but didn’t come out until 2013 doesn’t help it either. If PG worked on the game from the start and (for whatever unrealistic reason) was forced to work on the game from 2009 to 2013, it could possibly make a game like NG2 look like DmC.
Yeah, I said it in the MGR thread once…it’s a great start for a new franchise. I don’t have as much regard for it as some do, I just thought the general combat was a tad bit thin, it just had tons of flourish in other areas to keep it interesting. Was mad disappointed that the VR missions were all over the place as far mission structure. Sneaking missions? More than 1? A bunch of “Kill 100 enemy” missions would have been nice, the game didn’t let the combat breath enough, short but sweet encounters most of the time. Got Sam’s DLC but haven’t tried it yet.
The thing that made NGBs bosses great was Ryu netted out a shit ton of damage, even on MN, no matter who the boss was, so the fight never felt like battles of attrition, see who wears out first.
Man, after doing a nostalgia runs on NGB, NGBII, Sigma and Sigma 2…holy shit I gave the Sigma versions far too much credit earlier…they’re fucking HORRIBLE, absolutely atrocious ports of the Xbox versions. Razor’s Edge moves at NGII’s tempo, I think Sigma 2’s combat is actually slower than Ninja Gaiden Black’s…really jarring playing it. I feel bad for the impressions the Sigma versions will give PS3 fans about Ninja Gaiden, controls are so terribly sluggish and loose in comparison. Sigma 2’s main redeeming quality now: Shaking the SixAxis shakes the Ninja Girl’s Tits.
Does anyone on xbox feel like attempting the Master Ninja/Ultimate Ninja trials?
Someone just let me borrow this shit. I am bout to kill some bitches tonight.
Well this shit is not easy. I havent played a new age ninja gaiden and I died about 50 times before beating the first day.
Yeah, add me if you want, GT: AlphaZero. Think my friend rage broke his copy lol.
Just get any weapon to level 3 and the slaughter will commence lol.
360Y Scythe and Kusari-Gama break this fucking game. It’s all that’s used on the UN Trial leaderboards.
UN trials are broke anyways, lol. There’s all kinds of stuff you can in this too bosses now, particularly with co-op
Falcon’s Claw and DS XXXYYY combos can frame lock many bosses
Momiji’s double jump X can kill Alma in 7 seconds, and pretty much destroys any of them that go airborne.
Kasumi’s damage dealing is pretty heavy, if you want that fast kill on bosses feel
Pretty much any boss, if one player lands a hit, they can all be hit by Ulitmate Techniques by the second player.
Ninja Gaiden 3 was broken, Gaiden 2 had Scythe Spam, Gaiden had Flying Swallow/Gleaming Blade spam…there’s always something to find you can abuse. Still fun though lol
