Caught the January 25th showing in Chicago. Didn’t get very many pictures because they asked for people to put their phones away before the show started. Most of the pictures and video I did take came out blurry since I was just whipped my camera out real quick, took a pick, then put it away. The venue didn’t have any Nier related decorations up. There was a merch booth but as far as I could tell they were only selling a T-shirt and Final Fantasy CDs.

The first half of the show was music from the original Nier which surprised me. I just figured all the music would have been from Automata. Must have been weird for all the people who didn’t play the first game. The audience hype was noticeably higher during the second half of the show when they played music from Nier: Automata.

Yoko Taro was there. I knew he was supposed to be there for the Friday show but I was didn’t expect him to be there for my showing. Has was led on to the stage and did a little skit then thanked everyone for coming out.

The show was good but I was left disappointed because my two favorite songs (This cannot continue, and the kids singing when you enter the forrest) were not played at all.

interview hightlights:

  • Since the developers put in a considerable amount of work on the upgrade, it began to feel much more than a remaster.
  • The camera work for the event scenes will be the exact same as the original game. In that sense, the developers feel like it feels more like a remaster, but they’ve also applied various revisions.
  • As for the additional elements, the developers are working hard at making everything completely new.
  • The original game had a bit unrefined which was a charm in itself, but the developers feel that they should change it if it brings any negative feelings. The gameplay must feel good for the fans of NieR: Automata.
  • Lastly, the developers say to look forward to the voice acting performances of Yui Ishikawa and Natsuki Hanae.
