NieR: Automata - Platinum's Take on all the Weirdness of NieR and Drakengard

So I’ve been playing the game since last friday and it’s phenomenal, just like everyone here expected!

I have a PS4 Pro and you can see on this video that the difference between Pro and base PS4 is pretty huge, especially in performance

Yeah I got it too, freakin awesome

Yo the game is AMAZING and for the worriers, this game still has Yoko Taro all over it. But if you want to play on hard mode I gotta give you some tips cause unless you are already super good at character action games, this game is going to tear you a new one on hard difficulty

First, when you die you lose chipsets and they drop in the form of an Android corpse you can pick up. If you die again without picking them up, they’re gone for good. Unlike Souls however, picking up your stuff has a vulnerable animation so it can be very dangerous to do this while enemies are around. If you were using a really good chipset that you spent a lot of time building and are not great at the game just like me, consider switching to easy mode until you pick them up, then switch back. You might save yourself some heartache that way.

The reason the dodge has soooooo many invul frames is because of the potential enemy density and, on hard mode, the incredibly high strength of the enemies, combined with the fact that you can get combo’d to death without certain chips, and the fact that there is no one-hit-kill prevention like Bayonetta. So believe me, the game makes you grateful that it has as many invulnerable frames as it does, and that’s probably why they made Very Hard mode be always one-hit-kill

As for death combos, there is a chip you can get that gives you temporary iframes after taking a hit, so that’s one way to prevent death combos. The other is you can use healing items in the d-pad down shortcut menu. There’s a separate, slightly more broad menu on the left side of the touchpad as well. That menu actually pauses time too so don’t forget it if you’re in a pinch.

As for the Auto-heal chip from the demo, it’s still here but they nerfed it a bit. It used to activate at the same time you got hit by an attack that put you in critical condition, but now it only activates a second AFTER you take a hit, so as it is now it won’t automatically prevent death from combos. You really need the iframes after damage chip or to heal manually if you get put in a combo

Also, again, if on hard mode at least, DON’T FUCKING FORGET TO SAVE ALL THE DAMN TIME. DO IT.

Since there’s no trophy for difficulty and I’m a noob, I’m playing the game on NORMAL

I’m on the second playtrough, after Ending A

36 hours since last friday, this weekend was insane, it was a 4 day weekend here in Brazil.

Yeah, I just started it too, it’s pretty fucking awesome actually and way better than the way Nier ended up doing it

Cheers for the info Gasa, but my penis can only get so erect.

Actually that reminds me I need to post some story videos later for the drakengard games and the first Nier, for those that haven’t played or whatever. It’ll be a few hours before I can link them so for those interested check out the youtuber Clemps, his analysis vids are really fun and extremely insightful.

Story analysis vids. Pretty much a everything you need to know about the Darkengard universe

Obviously there’s talk about each games gameplay and what not but Clemps goes over lots of very important story aspects.

I’m so glad the shmup sections are actually fun, even if simple by shmup standards.

I ordered the game on Amazon and I don’t have a definitive time on when it will be delivered. I don’t like this.

I preordered at Gamestop. My shop is one of the better ones. No preorder talk shoved down my throat.

Amazon is slow af. They shipped my Last Guardian Collector’s Edition on RELEASE DAY, so I couldn’t play the game for another week.

I get my games faster from a local store if it’s just a regular copy.

Also, don’t forget this. It’s basically necessary to survive

I should get the game tomorrow or Friday. Can’t wait!

I pre-ordered. I know it will be worth the wait.

I respect that people want games on disc because you can later re-sell or trade in, but in this case I just couldn’t wait.

And after playing so many japanese games I’m pretty used to using CIRCLE as “confirm” and CROSS as “cancel”

The story in this game is just bonkers, as one would expect from this series, but there are some truly touching moments here and there too.

And I tought few female characters could rival Zero from Drakengard 3 on being awesome and a total badass, but 2B is actually amazing in her own right. Sadly, 9S is pretty boring and uninteresting…

Yeah, but I prefer the twin stick sections, where you can rotate your ship 360 degrees.

Even those hacking mini games are awesome too

So I been looking into the plot of the previous game and Drakengard in prep for Automata. I’m beginning to regret that. The plot of this series is confusing as fuck.

It’s like George Lucas, while on Drugs wrote the TV Show Lost, had Hideo Kojima edit it before it got wrangled by Squeenix
