Just to let you (Return of Shiki, YourMaster) know, if you’re going by Evo rules, then you’re completely and utterly wrong about the “No coaching” rule. Coaching IS allowed and never have I seen it be made such a big deal. Food for thought, or lack thereof.
I never said no coaching.
The only rules that apply are the ones after the game name which should be evo rules. Only thing I think will be different is the matches which are:
2/3 games per match
Winner Finals are 3/5
Loser Finals are 3/5
Grand Finals are 4/7
Pots go 70/20/10
No need to get bent out of shape, Joey.
Previous Gamefrog tournies HAVE had the no coaching rule IN ADDITION to Evo Rules. I didn’t think it was a such a “big deal” because in the past several years no one seemed to have much of a problem with it.
And coaching being allowed at Evo???
http://www.evo2k.com/playerGuide/rules.php
"Collaboration of any kind with your competitors is considered cheating"
1 : to work jointly with others or together especially in an intellectual endeavor
By my definition, I can definitely see coaching as “collaboration”
This coaching debate is stupid. It really doesn’t matter one way or the other. If it happens it happens, if it doesn’t it doesn’t. It shouldn’t be a big deal as long as it is in no way distracting to the other player.
Indeed.
I never thought it was a big issue…but I HAVE played in tourneys (not Gamefrog or Mindboggle) where I got pretty annoyed at people shouting out moves for either me or my opponent to do.
Usually at Mindboggle and Gamefrog we’ve all understood common courtesies like this.
I don’t think anybody would need to be DQed or anything extreme like that but I asssumed a rule was needed as a safety to keep things from going too far.
Ignore this post. I was wrong.
As far as the coaching thing is concerned, there is plenty of time in between matches to talk to your buddies and tell them what to do/not do. I don’t really care that much, but if you’re going to have the rule, please enforce it(cough last gamefrog tourney cough).
It is rather annoying and disruptive to hear people yelling out anti-you strategies during your match.
I didn’t change it because you posted that, but I’ll change it back only because I asked around and they are allowed at evo.
LOL. Coaching isn’t going to make the difference between winning and losing in a tournament situation IMO. When you come to a tournament you yourself have to be the one that’s prepared. I mean someone can always give you a random tip here and there like at most tournaments but those tips aren’t going to be the saving grace for you. You have to have the mindset to win a tournament and if you don’t have it…you won’t win regardless of coaching. I doubt anyone at this tournament is knowledgeable enough to even give reasonable coaching advice outside of the basic stuff that you guys probably regularly fuck up on.
People like you are gonna lose hardcore at larger scale tournaments. Tournaments where the music is extra loud and when people are fed up with you making mistakes…they’ll call you out and tell you to go back to the country you came from if you’re not white or afro american. So if you’re all worried about small disruptions from people “yelling” behind you at a local tournament…you’re in for lots of trouble if you ever go to a bigger tournament. Tournaments where everything is loud and people will yell at the top of their fucking lungs over the sound to tell you how much you are sucking. I wouldn’t even suggest Evo for you.
Coaching? LOL whats next… ESPN coverage. LOL
Jesus Christ…yes, coaching doesn’t really make a difference but it’s still annoying.
And this isn’t Evo…we aren’t trying to be Evo…this is just our first tournament to help revive the Charlotte scene which has been dead for 4 years.
Good lord…the coaching rule really wasn’t meant to be a big deal one way or the other. Just drop it, people.
Ouch. Yo, I think u misunderstood me. It’s not like that. I was simply saying that it was all in caps and shit in the rules at the last tourney(and I had never seen this rule before, so I took it seriously), but no one did shit. I’m simply saying that u shouldn’t post a rule like that if it’s not gonna be enforced. As far as I’m concerned, it shouldn’t be a rule either.
But damn, ouch.
That’s my point. Sorry if I sounded like an asshat (because I am) but if you are gonna complain about something that doesn’t even really make the difference in tournament play…that’s just stupid. The tournament organizer should know that coaching is not going to make or break anyone in a tournament situation except if they are doing just one thing wrong and that one thing will make the difference between life and death.
There are too many situations and sudden gameplay changes to coach a fighting game. Especially with the pace that they move at. If you didn’t know what to do before you got to the tournament…it’s not gonna help much if someone coaches you during the middle of a match. Coaching is just something that happens out of spite at tournaments and rarely does it affect actual tourney results. Too many situations at too quick of a pace for it to make or break a tournament for another player.
As far as reviving the scene…sounds like you guys have a way to go. I know the scene in NC is pretty asstastic so hopefully there’s room to improve that. Good luck and hopefully see some of you guys at Evo Vegas.
Actually, I’ve seen coaching win games. Its terrible but I’ve been coached to wins.
I’ve seen people win because their coach can see things that the player can not see.
Coaching is gay but in NY it happens whenever JWong’s crowneys are playing against a non NYer.
The way I see it, as long as the person isn’t right beside the person telling them everything to do, than their shouldnt be a problem. If someone does this then the other player should report them and something will be done.
I really don’t see how someone could coach someone to victory unless the person they’re playing is using one trick that they don’t know how to beat. In that case that person wouldnt have won the tournie anyway, because stuff like that only works on scrubs. Also, if they yell it out then the person knows to change it up, and it wouldn’t really help anyone. Unless they whisper it, but with all the noise the person might not hear it.
The Charlotte scene never died. Lots of Charlotte player have still been playing and going to tournie. This tournie is to support the fighting game scene as a whole. Fighting games will alway be here and it is only getting stronger.
Hey what’s going on.This is Shaun from charlotte.I am one of the decent mvc2 players:lol: .So to enter a tourney it is $20($10 registration&$10 to enter a tourney)That’s alot.Do u guys think u can lower the registration fee to at least $5. Some people would greatly appreciate it.Holla back
P.S.-MSP IS THE GREATEST TEAM EVER IN MVC2.
Yeah…I apologize for the poor choice of words.
“Dead” isn’t really approriate since there are still plenty of good Charlotte players who’ve traveled around for the past few years.
Really, I was just trying to say that ever since Mindboggle was taken from us…there’s not been a centralized spot for us to meet and have games.

Anyway…the results are in on the KOF XI poll…and although the majority DO want the NGBC characters, the lack of decision of whether EX Kyo should included means that the plurarity wins…so for this tournament Shion, Magaki, and the console-exclusive characters are out.
Yeah, I agree that the entry fee is a little higher than normal.
But you have to keep in mind that DeToX (the owner of GameLAN’D) is pretty much giving us the whole place to ourselves for the whole day…which means some of the regular customers will have to be turned away that day.
ALSO, we are willing and able to have Marvel casual all day or as long as people want it. So when you think about it…it’s not just the tournament…but the fun of chilling out and meeting new player and playing casual too!
Maybe I misunderstood what you posted, but it is a $10 dollar door fee and you pay a fee for whatever tournie you want to enter. All of the tournie fee goes toward the pot. Sure we could lower it, but that means a smaller pot for the top 3 winners.
xYourMasterx: I’ve seen it happen, to one of our own at FR8 actually. But that’s beside the point…
F*ck all this talk! GAMES!
