I only have negative things to say about it because thats my opinion towards it. That place is dead and its obvious the way they treat their customers has something to do with it. If I ran the place and people spent a few hours or more a night in there, I would have no problem letting them bring in food/drinks and eating inside. But no, we were basically the only people in there on weekends playing and they starting bitching about people bringing their food in and having to throw away a few drinks afterwards. And on top of that, they pulled that stupid bullshit of “No more marvel tournaments unless we make a certain amount of money a night!” That is why that shithole has no business and im glad. Putt putt needs customers to make it. Treat your customers like shit and they wont come back. NNPP is a good example.
I respect that you try to help the scene out and what not, and its not like those are your decisions…but you dont run the place and the people who do make shitty decisions.

dont expect the scene to grow after 1, maybe two weeks… if the shit worked, a tourney coulda been planned and PLENTY of people would come… maybe not the hugest turnout but im sure some md, nc people would come
Sup Cripp, Fact of matter is Arcades are dead and the VERY few that thrive are far and few between. The worse part for that place is its location. Horribly off the beaten path for all cept the few locals that went there before when it was known as puttputt. Does Wes plan on advertising that place in the paper or something cuz i’m pretty sure 99% of the area thinks its still closed. I’m assuming Wes got the boot from Adventure golf? I can’t imagine him wanting to leave the company to try and struggle opening a poorly revunue generating place like that?
alrighty… first off let me explain that this post has no anger or anything… I suspect that some of the stuff might seem angry if you just had to take a guess at it
chris/shawn: the place is no longer owned by adventure landing as it was when it was last open… Wes did work for adventure but his style is distinctly different from their style. I know this looks bad that he decided to do this… but the truth is he’s not entirely familiar with how fighting games (particularly marvel) make their money… his thinking is this: he’s not in business so that someone can come in and play marvel alone for 30 mins on just 50 cents… so he wanted to turn up the difficulty, but it was all the way up… so he felt his option was to turn up the damage, by turning up the damage, each fight is done more quickly and therefore total playing time is cut down. We all see the problem with this though, but I haven’t gotten a chance to explain it to him. The problem is that marvel will make it’s money almost solely from people playing AGAINST each other, but they won’t do this if the damage/time/controls aren’t right… so by increasing the damage he does cut down on how long the random person plays it, but he also excludes about 95% of his revenue for that game… I know no one wants to play on the damage setting as it is
But before the write the place off as a lost cause, at least give me a chance to explain to him how things like this typically work… then if he decides to keep the damage high, then you can continue bitching and I won’t stop you (btw he told me that turnign the damage down for tournaments is fine, I know that’s not enough but it’s something)

Wes left adventure a while ago, he worked for the Putt-Putt corporate office for a while (putt putt corp. just deals with franchise stuff now, they don’t own any parks anymore). But he did voluntarily leave putt-putt in order to buy/run this place. He thinks that he can turn a good profit eventually, as do I, but it will obviously take time. As for advertising: we’re still not open 100%, only 1 golf course is open right now (hopefully open a second course tomorrow), also we don’t have much of a staff in there right now basically just him and I. He’s not hoping to make a profit right NOW, he just wants to be open and let people come in as they do, just to cut into his expenses some. He’s set up a bunch of direct mail stuff that will hit homes in the middle of april. Basically we will have a “grand openning” probably the week of high school spring break in april.
I will be at work tomorrow afternoon/evening if anyone feels like swinging by to play/talk whatever…
One other point I’d like to make on the marvel thing: you also have to understand that he doesn’t really have any clue what sort of numbers/revenue marvel can bring in when we have tournaments/competition nights… so far there’s just been a handful of players come in, which is fine, but you also have to understand that he doesnt’ yet realize what he would be missing out on if he leaves the damage as is.
I will more than likely be able to convince him to knock the damage back down tomorrow afternoon, but if anyone wanted to come by to back me up it would increase my chances greatly I’m sure…
I just moved to hampton, va from nj a month ago and according to mapquest i live 5 miles from this place:eek: . I work nights but ill go to any tournament i can make it to. Im decent at mvc2 ill play money matches with anyone. Ill check this place out within the next few day. Also when do u people play there so i know a good time to go for comp.
