The thing you guys aren’t realizing is a “patch” and “balance patch” are completely different. Mortal Kombat is notorious for having games patched mostly for bugs because to be quite frank, you don’t have a ton of expert level players testing the game for such a long amount of time. A lot of the stuff they have to change are game breaking. SFIV hasn’t had anything stupid like that…game breaking stuff like roll cancelling for CVS2 was changed for XBOX/GameCube and people hated it. They went back to the old one. Same with 3s. The most updated 3s game is essentially the Dreamcast game and people have to have their broken unblockables, lol…
AE did not need to be changed, it’s just laughable like FlyMike pointed out…you just aren’t seeing how ludicrous it is. comparing MK patches to SF is laughable, they don’t have anyone to balance check that stuff…heck, look at Freddy already with stuff all over the place…the studio was rushed to get the content out…) SF is now undergoing 3 versions in LESS THAN A YEAR. It’s not 4 versions in 3 years, it’s 3 versions in ONE year at this point. You guys were all playing Super in JUNE, that was 2 MONTHS AGO.
Saying it now. Deus Ex for GOTY.
I kind of agree. It’s been two months of absolutely nothing but whining though, including from people that don’t even play/aren’t even very good. Ono was getting like, cursed out and death threats from people so I can imagine why he caved, but I think Capcom should have just put their foot down and stopped him, at least for a while. The twins are a problem, but not enough to knee-jerk patch the game. As much as I don’t like Yun, he’s really pretty tame compared to top in KOF, Marvel, 3s…
I feel like all that should be changed was to give back a couple of the dumb nerfs from Super like Vega’s, Honda’s lp headbutt, etc… Which they have somewhat done, and then tone down Fei, Yun, Yang and Viper.
Fei’s EX rekka is absurd now, and he’s also braindead as fuck still. Viper seriously needed a nerf. That bitch is out of control. Her hair could brush your leg and she’d ultra off of it. 480 damage is way too much for that ultra. Although, the ‘make it easier to land’ buff is unneeded and stupid. Good Vipers miss ultra more because of short cuts than timing. Yang just needs a meter gain nerf. Yun just needs to have a single punishable anything and a little less damage in the corner. If I block a lunge punch I should be able to shove a shoryuken directly into his butt hole. Hell, I think ex lunge from close should be -6 at least.
Like I said, I think they should have left it alone for at least a year, I’m just saying that if they are going to change something right now this should be it.
Is 3rd strike OE downloadable or is my xbox stupid?
I think a lot of the argument stems from the fact that a lot of old-school guys think the newer players are a bunch of crybabies. They dealt with 3s Chun, they dealt with CVS2 Blanka, all the BS in the Alpha series etc, so they don’t see why the new players can’t do the same. IMO though an unbalanced game (especially a fighting game) is always a negative thing, it doesn’t “bring the community together” or whatever BS people want to say, it just makes it less fair. Times have changed, video games and content delivery systems have changed, so I don’t see why patches are a big deal as long as they are well-designed and well thought out (and I agree MK has gone a bit overboard). The chance of getting a fighting game completely right on the first iteration is slim. Just look at how shitty the first Guilty Gear games were compared to AC.
I will say, though, that AE is pretty well balanced overall, especially when compared to just about every old fighting game ever.
Not out yet, wait until either midnight or sometime tomorrow.
Speaking of which, are we gonna have a 3sOE setup at Fight Night Wednesday?
Sadly, we 360 owners must wait until tomorrow.
Well technically Jason, the arcade came out in when, late November/early December? I honestly think that Capcom doesnt just listen to the American console market for all their decisions. I agree though that AE was still pretty good, more balanced than other SF games but still less than Super. AND this situation is different because imbalance was the plan from the get go with AE. It was pretty damn obvious that a patch was eventually going to happen even before AE came out.
Even though this patch is going to be free, it still comes from a money making standpoint. The changes add spice to the game play, and keep people interested who in traditional fighting game times may have already given up on the game. This patch is just a buffer and they figure out what to charge us for next. I think Guilty Gear had the right idea, basically a new game every 2 years (not counting Isuka).
Is anybody aware that New york to Maryland had an. Earthquake just now?
I’m definitely not hiding that, I do believe a lot of the newer players are crybabies. They whine when they win, they whine when they lose, they whine about characters, they act like imbeciles at tournaments and are put on pedestals for it…heck you have the even more idiotic ones screwing up tournaments, getting into fights, and they are still glorified rock stars…
I’m not saying I think everyone is, but people have so many excuses when they lose:
“I play marvel”
“I let you win”
“Nigga you suck”
“That character is broken”
It’s almost the Tom Brady logic (and I mean this playfully) where he only wins when he tries and if he lost it is because he let you win…
But in reality it is “expected” for everyone to have a “voice” about things and it backfires to the point where everyone looks stupid because they whined about lack of balance in the first place…
I would like to see what all the Yun players who have NOT played 3s enough say when the play against 3s Yun with him building up 3/4 of a bar of Genei Jin AFTER he’s already activated one and comboed you during a round…
I dont think anyone would argue that 3s Yun is more balanced than AE Yun. No one who played 3s even remotely seriously anyway. But the “old” way if you will is getting one game and if its broke thats it you either play it or you dont and wait for a whole new game to come out. Just because that was the way it was done in the past doesn’t make it the right way to do things. With technology being what it is now being able to make balance adjustments to a game to increase its life ect is a good thing and it should be leveraged to fix some things. Now all the whining and going back and forth on changes isn’t right either. To me though 2012 edition or whatever will probably end up what AE should have been. There is no question Yun is kind of dumb. Even people that main him think this. Like most things there just needs to be some middle ground. Let people whine on unity about whatever stupid thing they do devs should just ignore it and implement changes based on reason not whining.
Sorry should have sent me a message. I have been working on command characters as of late.
severin: You’d be surprised…a lot of Yun players are saying he is not as great as everyone thinks…Perfect Legend (who uses Kung Lao and Yun) has made complaints about that which obviously you take with a grain of salt, but he’s dead serious…I have never heard Jacob utter a word about the character…he used Gouken and Dudley previously so he has a right to use whoever but he gets shit from people sort of for Yun…but to me I look at it like this…If you play against it enough it shouldn’t matter…I don’t mind Yun, it doesn’t affect me…the more the merrier
Id say I for 1 am an “old head” when it comes to how fighting games are dealt with these days. There is nothing in any version of SFIV that can compare to the amount of stupidity in other Capcom fighters and in my opinion nothing is really unbeatable in fighters nowadays. Unbalances weed out the weak and only make the players that stay stronger. I don’t care how many people play a fighting game if only a few are really good. I really think the fighting game community in general should start blaming themselves and not the game or the character(s). I think that the Memphis SF Rankings would more or less still be the same regardless of the characters used. You didn’t lose because so-n-so’s character is better than yours. He’s just a better player bro or got the best of you that 1 time.
My whole take on this is simply the retarded time it takes to do all this… They announced a new version right? RIGHT! So things will change and the game will be different… Not drastically different, but different none the less. Thats the part I hate. Just make a game and keep it! Like others… I was fine with Super…
And I agree with everything that Dreams says except 1 thing… Yun is Fucking retarded! And you know this… This doesnt mean you can’t get better at the matchup, it just means that coming out the gate, the character is fucking bananas!
I wish I can like Bishop’s post more than once. It’s not the character that wins the battles, it’s the player. In any FG, no match ups is 0-10 I don’t think. You just have to put a little bit more effort into your 3-7 match ups than your 5-5 or 6-4 match ups.
This is what Flymike would do to all who bitch and complain about FG:

@Bishop: So its not a coincidence that the highest ranked players only “happen” to use top tiers? Looks I dont disagree that a good part of the community does need to man up and stop bitching. I am guilty of this too at times. But these arguments of its all or nothing make no sense. Lets take Marvel no one is taking a VJ or Cap Am or Heisen Ko based team and winning anything I dont care how good you are. This general mantra of “its all player skill and nothing else” is a joke past a certain point. Was anyone using some random team and doing well at the end of MvC2s life…No. You had to play tops to stand a chance period. Is anyone winning majors with Sak, or Cody or Gen in AE again no. So again there is a sensible middle ground. People need to stop bitching as much and put in some work but games can be balanced better than they have been. Both sides should look to improve not be stagnant
@Dream: You dont happen to have a link of these complaints do you? I am not asking to be a dick I am just curious to see what he has to say. I mean the two main Yun users here both joke about how dumb he is, neither of which is a scrub player by any means. Sheer volume of Yuns in the top 32 at Evo was crazy though yes I know he didnt win. I agree the more you play it the “easier” the match up gets but in some cases it isn’t changing some of the match ups to be any less dumb. Did playing Seth more in Vanilla make that match easier for Gief?
@Locke: Come on man thats a cop out. Yeah you might beat some brand new cat with your Felicia/VJ/Ryu squad a few times but as the gap in skill diminishes the variance in tiers becomes more apparent. How many Seans show up in 3s tourneys and do well? I’m not saying player skill doesn’t matter of course it does but acting like its the only thing that matters is laughable. Its kind of like people who still think size doesn’t matter at all in a fight and your magic kung fu kata you do once a week will protect you
You make very valid points Sev but the only thing is SFIV and MvC3 are nowhere near as unbalanced as Marvel2 or any other unbalanced Capcom fighting game. Nobody is winning with X character(s) because nobody is playing these characters. Sakura, who was already a good character(good pokes, damage, mixups, punishment) got nothing but buffs in AE and STILL doesn’t get played with. It’s “TOO HARD” is what they say and Im sorry dude but I’d put money on Woot and Eraser placings top regardless of who they used having the same amount of experience. Both of them are just very smart and solid players in general.
My main point is that we don’t have to deal with the kind of nonsense that the old heads had to deal with and overcame in the old days so all we gotta do is put up or shut up. As far as big vs small in fighting goes, if it were a battle to the death, certain strikes to certain parts of the body with kill regardless of the size of the person that the strike came from. Bruce Lee was a 130 pounder and could hit harder than men twice his size.
Well eraser uses Rose anyways I’d rather fight his Gat than his Rose, and Gat is a way better character than Rose, Eraser just makes her look really good, same way Sev makes Gen seem usable or Squab with his Cody(though Cody is the best of this bunch imo I’m very scared of Cody getting good buffs)
That’s because Eraser isn’t what you would call a “real” Sagat player. If he had been playing and stuck with Sagat from the beginning I think it would be way more dumb than Rose.
