You are missing the key point, if some breaking news happens in the SF world and you are forced to write about it, will you?
Its pointless to be a blogger if you wont cover important items as well as whatever you want.
I’ll give this a go tomorow morning, I’m too tired to write now… I’ve been wanting to get into writing more seriously lately so I guess this would be a good way to start…
I see. And sorry for turning this into a chat, but won’t you have several people writing for srk? And its very likely that most of them will be pretty excited about fighting game news. So they some of them will feel pleasure in writing about it, and you need this, since it is for free (I’m guessing here).
You’ll get more commited people if some will really dfo some research on this just to write for srk. I’ll give you that, and now I suggest a slightly different approach. Because you can get both types of entries, and so get better writers as well. Why not have both? So when something important to some part of the community comes up (Puzzle Fighter) you have the commited guy to do it. When something that will interest most of the writers comes up (ST?), you can ask the best writer to write about it.
Well, I’ll stop spamming now. I see your point though. I hope this works out really well.

And actually no. A spectacular writer can make most topics interesting to most people, and that’s probably as good as it gets.

You really need to decide if you are looking for bloggers or contributors - those aren’t the same thing. Bloggers don’t get forced to write about anything.
Don’t call it a blog just because blogs are popular. It seems like what you are going for has nothing to do with blogging at all. If you are planning on telling people what topics they have to write about and engaging in heavy-handed editorial control then you aren’t running a blog.

i’ll volunteer to blog, but at the same time, i’m not writing an audition article about puzzle fighter. ive never played the game, i know nothing about it, and i don’t care. it really has little or nothing to do with the competitive street fighter community.
