in the corner

HP Oil rocket -> wait a sec -> forward jump HK

The HK is a cross up hit and an over head. If the opponent blocks like it isnt a cross up they get hit, and if the block the other way they just walk away from the corner. Combining this with an option select could potentially give interesting results. I’ll try to make a vid later.

Woah. That’s weird. I was practising this just now, since you brought it up, I was keeping it simple and doing it with cr.HK, jump over HK. Just easier to time, but when you cross up, if the opponent blocks facing the crossup, they get hit, lol. They can’t walk out of it, but if they try, they get hit! Thought it might be unblockable but it turns out if they block towards the crossup, they block it. Crazy.

Just wondering, surely there’s a way of preventing the walk out after the HP oil rocket? Needs some testing.

Maybe OS ultra 1? or even os oil dive?

Damn, just trying to create the same situation as the Cr.hk, after the HP Oil rocket. I don’t understand whats different. Still cant prevent the walk out. Yeah, those could definitely work, especially since the times i’ve tried it in matches, a lot of them, the HK whiffed and the opponent just threw me as i landed

EDIT! - Yes, I got it! After HP rocket, tiniest step back, jump over HK. They can’t walk out, can’t jump, crouch. If they block the crossup, they get HIT. (i know that doesn’t make sense, but it’s true, lol). Ah, and just as a lovely bonus, it beats reversals too. I’ve been testing on Ryu btw.

Thanks for bringing this up Pongboom, i’d almost given up hope on it. Scratch that, it definitely wasn’t on my things I have to work on list. Nice one!

Here’s a quick crappy video of how you do it, it literally is the tiniest step backwards.

Joint effort. Anyways this is pretty cool stuff. We should check ken as he is the Shoto of the game and has some of the best DP’s.

Well here you go, works on ken too. Another crappy vid, but I ran through a couple of options this time. I thought this might end up being hard to do, but after trying it again, it’s really not difficult at all.

Edit - okay, turns out you don’t even need the step back. You can just wait a bit, jump HK, like pongboom said. It’s all about the timing. Only difference is, it turns into a true cross up. Hmm. Still beats reversals though.
Edit 2 - All right, i’ve tried whiffing every normal, everything under the sun, to help the timing for this darned crossup, and i think the step back one is probably the easiest way to do it, for me anyway.

Gold!

Success! After messing around with this some more, i discovered a far easier way of landing the cross up: It’s HP oil rocket, whiff lk, jump HK. That’s not all, i found out some really odd things. Also, its not a gimme, you need to work on it first, get used to timing it, here it is:

Alright, it’s pretty simple, takes a few goes to get it right. I just want to go over some things i found out, bear in mind here that I’ve only tested this on Ryu.

  • The direction the opponent has to block is RANDOM. Really. Sometimes, the opponent can block in either direction. So he holds forward, he blocks it, holds backward, he still blocks. Confusing, I know. It’s all to do with the slightest changes in your timing. Other cases, you’ll cross up, but if the opponent guesses right, he gets hit, for big damage. And other times, it just works as a normal cross up. That’s a serious guessing game.

  • Beats all standard reversals, lp gets hit, other versions whiff, free punish, etc

  • The opponent can backdash. However, he’s vulnerable if he does. So it might be worth going into jabs after the HK.

All in all, I would seriously recommend Hakan players to work on this, it’s not hard to get down, but you do have to work on it. Best way to do it…choose Hakan as the CPU, record him doing the above ^ - play it back, and test to see if you can walk out. If you can’t, then you’ve got it. If not, keep working at it, you’ll get it.

If you can get this down, you can put the opponent in a horrible, horrible position.

Oh and also, here’s a bonus. This setups even easier than above, you can’t really go wrong with it. You have to be oiled in this case though. In this situation (I’m just going to call it an Anti-cross up now) if the opponent blocks it as a cross up, he’ll get hit. Pretty cool. Real easy to do.

The setup is lp oil rocket - dash forward twice - jump over HK. Can’t miss. The dashes have to be done instantly after the Oil rocket. So you can just mash forward dash as the oil rocket is finishing.

awesome work, i found the lk setup but forgot to post it

Ah, awesome. Yeah I thought there was still hope in this yet!

How are you finding it? It seems the key is in the timing of the J.HK.

i’ve done it in matches a couple of times, works pretty effectively. It is a lot harder to get the opponent to the corner for it in the first place.

Nice one, good to see you using it in matches. Hmm, yeah, well lp oil rocket is pretty effective in getting them in the corner, might wanna try that.

Ah, I found another one:

While oiled, forward throw in the corner, dash forward twice, jump Hk, gives you a guaranteed cross up.

Edit - Woah, found something odd about this. It crosses up as above, in the right corner. In the left corner however, it either crosses up, or hits in front…the difference being, if you hold back when it hits in front, you get hit. Reaaally weird.

Basically you have to guess between it crossing up and not crossing up. If you guessed that it didn’t cross up, you’re still gonna get hit, haha.

Just an update - you can do this without oil aswell, the main difference being is that it’s always a standard crossup but avoids all reversals. Hmm.

All these setups work perfectly on yun and yang aswell, all their reversals whiff. Unfortunately, yuns HK DP takes him so far away, maybe only really punished by an oiled EX slide, or an OS slide.

Does no other hakan player care about this stuff? Are you and I just crazy here drew?

I just started playing Hakan today so please forgive my ignorance; Why is it that Hakan must be oiled up before the LP Oil rocket? Messing around in training mode it seems like I can still pull this off without having to be oiled up. Not that it’s a big deal or anything, I’m mostly just curious n . n

well I’ll be eating up Hakan information as I can, so… much appreciated guys :b

Cool finds. I hadn’t read through this thread, but I’ll mess around with this when I get back to California.

Haha, I was thinking about that yesterday. Ah well, I think these will be really useful, and I’m definitely going to put these into my game. In some instances it’s almost free damage, impossible to tell what direction to block. Mix in some oil dives, some safe slides, and some pressure, and that’s one serious corner game. Which was already good. I’m gonna be rinsing normal throw in the corner now, haha.

You can cross up dry. The only difference being that if the opponent blocks it as a cross up, he’ll just walk back out of the corner for free. Where as when you’re oiled, the opponent just has to guess. You’ll still make reversals whiff, however, so there’s still some value in it. If the opponent holds back, he’ll block it, but his inputs will be messed up.

Been trying some out today, only played a few matches. It’s gold. Tried the throw one against a cody, forward throw in the corner (you can be anywhere near the corner for it to work) without oil, dash dash, jump hk. He blocked the crossup HK by holding back, which for all the world looks like it’s hitting in front…However, because his input was reversed, he couldn’t block the medium kick into slide, haha. Almost impossible to block. In the next match I did the same thing but with oil this time, he tried ex bingo, the cross up stuffed it absolutely clean. Pretty impressed.

Haven’t tried the lp rocket one, if someone could help me by trying these out in matches, that would be great.
