Yup, that’s just a molded chunk of plastic. If it was anything more, press would have buzzed more about it. The media coverage on this whole line of products has been kinda lackluster TBH.
CES is a pretty big trade show, with all the Lobby spaces, meeting rooms and even a huge number of regular hotel rooms all used up for Show Floor.
Some of the CES PC parts coverage you see are all held in Hotel suites
At this point Retrobit is swallowed up by everything else, from Concept cars to a metric fuck ton of RGB Lights Everything
It’s been gigantic for a long time now. Aside from this year, I was there for Logitech the last 5. Humorously it has been presenting in smaller and more remote spaces each successive year LOL.
Probability because the hotels all charge ridiculous extortionary prices to trade shows and conventions.
Especially in Vegas.
Logitech probability haven’t upped it’s budget, hence why they are getting smaller and smaller spaces.
I think the wired one will look closer to the original, the original shell wasn’t that great though, especially the black one, we could see all the fingerprints and scratches.
If only they could make a blue one…
Take note that this is only for the wireless version. There’s also a wired version coming out.
The dongle is there so that you can plug it to your original Saturn.
They haven’t announced these yet.
I remember those, but somehow have never read any opinions on them despite all the talk of various versions. How are they?
wow jealous… how many of these still work reasonably?
Those are not mine, I think they belong to this guy
I had a couple of PS2 to USB ones, but I made the mistake of selling them.
If the new controllers sell well, Brook might add PS4 support
Are the smaller three buttons out of tradition, or is there a preference for them? I haven’t used one since the '90s so I might be misremembering, but aren’t they slightly firmer to engage?
I’m not sure if they should copy the Fighting Commanders or not.
The non-electrical components of these controllers are supposedly exact reproductions of the original hardware. At least that’s what has been declared on recent media coverage of these controllers. The smaller buttons on both the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive 6-button controllers, and the Sega Saturn controllers have the same engagement pressure as the larger buttons. I have good-condition copies of both and can confirm this.
On a side-note: Three buttons had been the hallmark of the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive. It wasn’t really until Capcom came along with Street Fighter II: Special Champion Edition, that 6 buttons became more prominent in use. The larger A, B and C buttons served as a homage to that hallmark. As Capcom formed a close partnership with Sega for game development on the Saturn, the particular arrangement made popular on the later Genesis/Mega Drive controllers had carried over to its successor (with the addition of L&R shoulder buttons).
P.S. I’m glad that Retro-bit didn’t showcase the NTSC-U & PAL Model 1 Saturn controllers, and went for the Japanese-original/Model 2 revisions. The Non-Japanese Model 1 controllers were steaming-hot garbage.
My god the western Mk1 controllers were a shambles, I personally think it had a lot to do with the saturns failure compared to the innovative and more ergonomic PSX controller. Had they thought to simple update the 6 button MD controller in the first place things might have been different.
Anyway this is all very exciting seeing the mk2 controller make its way on latest gen stuff. If Retro-bit are making USB variants then the older official usb controllers will lose their value, assuming they perform/feel the same.
Some of you $100+ charging mofos might want to off load yours quick if you’re inclined to get your monies worth.
Just like the originals to a tee, every component is the same, measurements are the same, feels the same. It’s just a little different on the face plate, doesn’t affect the game at all. There’s only one thing I can count as different, the L&R shoulders sit a smidge higher, hardly noticeable.
The orange/white is dope
All true, but somehow the Chinese ‘SimpleJet’ USB knockoff of the Model 1 controller was incredible. I had a transparent one that matched the colour scheme of the original iMac, and I got at least a decade of use out of it. It was comparable to the Model 2 pad.
still no word on these 6 months later after e3? Not promising guessing they turned out to be bunk or a bust eh?
