New Player problems with rushers like Cody

Hey Guys,

The last street fighter I played was Super for the Genesis.
So it’s been a while.

So I have a stick and been playing with Dhalsim. Working on his trials, watching videos etc.

I have been getting better with Anti-Air but I don’t know how to deal with rushers after I have fallen.

Example Cody. I keep getting rushed. I will block, but he will keep attacking…and then throw.

Or If I block down, he will do a standing hit that goes through my crouch block.

I feel like I need to be able to punish him after I block a few hits…instead of just sitting there blocking everything as he keeps attacking.

Not sure what attacks are useful.

Lets just use Cody as an example.

Thanks for your help.

I play on PSN (bigmit37)

if u get knocked down u can teleport back using KKK
but this doesnt work well if ur in the corner

if ur in the corner u can block the first hit and do a safe b.lk or s.lk also b.mk followed with l.flame is good
and if u see ur opponent is jumping from side to side , u should consider EX.Blast , its very useful weapon against people who like to jump
and u do it on wake up but becarful of the timing

also u can lk or mk slide
if ur opponent is not jumping u can jump with lp (over head) and grab on landing , most people will not expect this,

you must be patient, and wait , if u cant do this , then dhalsim is not the right character for u
also the rush down characters usually makes alot of mistakes only a few that i have seen that they are perfect
so u must take advantage of ur opponent mistakes

but all of these are not as much important as ur mind, u have to think and predict ur opponent but do NOT get predicted

sorry for my bad english
good luck

Learning when and how to block comes with practice. Get past throw attempts by teching them, performing it reliably takes practice as well. Your prediction skills will improve the mre you play and watch.

Another thing for you to learn is to avoid letting him get in. Learning proper zoning should be at the top of your list ( ). Dhalsim also has a teleport for a reason.

Thank you for the replies.

Great advice. I am going test everything out.

That video just made me realize how much there is to learn in this game.

Also once you see an opening in their block string. (barrage of attacks) try throwing in out a b.LK then b.MK then standing LK to make some space. Watch out for reversals though. Be ready to b.HK (knee) or b.MP if they try to jump back in. Long range LK has a short recovery that will let you anti air. Dash away is good if you got room behind you.

Thank you. Going to test that out.

It feels like a lot of the new characters added into the game give Dhalsim a lot of trouble. A lot of them have really fast normals that trip (Dee-Jay and Guy), and Cody’s normals can outpoke Dhalsim’s very well, have really good range, and come out quickly with fairly good recovery.

Back MK seems to be the only thing that can really stop some of his normals, but still only trades when you are trying to get the distance back, which then you may have to rely on focus attacks or focus back dash.

Maybe its just me but I feel that his jumping elbow, that looks like sagats jumping elbow, makes it really hard to keep him out once he gets in from full screen on you. I havent faced many good codys but the good ones do nothing but that jumping elbow from the right range when they are advancing and its like sim doesnt have a good anti air to hit at that angle, maybe yoga blast or something, need to try it out. I usually just block and dont go for anti air vs it unless im on a good health advantage. If he gets you with it then you are pretty much going to eat a fierce combo with knockdown and be in a much worse situation.

dudley HP can beat all dhalsim normals

Check my videos vs a rushing Cody, hope they helps a bit --> http://www.youtube.com/user/gorefrost

I’ve some problems too…but there’re worse matchups than this.

I would say u were jumpin too much. I woulda been teleportin back instead and hitting him with a fierce. sometimes standing your ground is good too because that baits out a jump then u can b.mP or ex flame em out the air. Some of his jump ins were also pretty predictable and you should have been j.Mp him out the air.

I still have problems with rushers too. It seems to me when im being rushed i tend to panic and forget what to do

C/S about the jumping too much. As Sim’s jump has a lot of “hang time” this allows olayers to get in.

Back to the thread I also have a tough time against rushers but more so when characters like Cody, Bison, Abel etc put in block string combos in close when trapped in the corner.

I can only advise players to block and to wait it out. Get to know characters block strings and figure out in training mode or by trial and error during games where to tech throw, teleport or poke your way out.

I agree, probably I only thought to keep distance with backward jumps and back dash, forgetting to use normal antiairs when needed.

You have played DSP before i have seen it on youtube

lmao yes and it was a TERRIBLE match seeing as guile is one of my worst match ups. I don’t have much xp in that match up and i prefer not fighting guile at all tbh. I tried getting a rematch from him but he wont reply to me
