New Philly Thread (Super Street Fighter 4 AE @ University Pinball)

hit me up wednesday if you get a chance

Me and my friend trying to get more into the fighting game scene. Just want to know what events are taking place in Philly so we can step our game up and meet some people.

Welcome. Actually, there’s going to be two tournaments going on this coming weekend. On Saturday, there’s the Grand Master Monthly at Classic Game Junkie in Glenside (Grand Master Monthly - July 16th - Glenside, PA); on Sunday, there’s one at University Family Fun Center (most people here refer to it as University Pinball/UP) (University Family Fun Center (Philly) SSF4:AE/MvC3/MK9 7/17/11 Plus Bonus!). Both are running the big three games Marvel 3, SF4 AE, and MK.

If you’re willing to travel a bit, there’s also Body Shop Saturdays in Blackwood, NJ twice a month (Team DES Presents: Body Shop Saturdays 12: MK9/MVC3/BBCS2 5/28 Blackwood, NJ), though it’s on break for June.

Other than that, people just host sessions here and there. Just post up and keep an eye on the thread for when people are doing things. I know I’m having people over this Friday for some Garou: Mark of the Wolves if you’ve got any interest in that.

I think I might come out to the tourney? Will there be any Tekken there?

Thx Jt. I’ve been to the Grand Master event once but haven’t had the chance to go back. I’ve never been to any events on 40th street though, I’ll have to check that out. Also how far away would you say the Body Shop event is from Philly?

While I haven’t seen it at either GMM or UP, if you’re wanting to play Tekken I’d suggest coming out to the GMM and meeting Hubbs. He’s one of the main tourney organizers in the area, and he plays a bit of Tekken not to mention he’s usually one of the guys running the Tekken and/or Soul Calibur tourneys at the majors around here.

Body Shop is a straight shot down rt.42; maybe 15-20 mins. It’s pretty easy to get to.

Reposted and Quoted for Posterity

Philly usual suspects: If you are showing up to these events it would help the other and newer players that these tourneys are being supported and attended

FYI, if you’re looking to get some casual in Sunday evening I will constantly be holding sessions at the gaming loft. So far its just been mvc3 but this week we’ll do AE as well. The Biz may be supplying complimentary grub as well. Location is N.5th st and Cecil B Moore. If you’re not tourney ready and want to flex you’ll find capable competition here regularly around 6 PM.

PS may move it to Friday this week. Stay tuned.

this friday would conflict with the garou sessions but if its still happening this sunday i dont work a closing shift finally… i dont have a stick atm since my last one got stolen

Nice. Does it have the 1.1 update? Or is it just the original release?

how does it run? smooth?

vince you should delete that post.

yes, please do

I’d be more than happy to play some Tekken at one of these tourneys or in a casual session… I’m entering T6 at Evo and I haven’t played that game in like 8 months! :frowning:

Me too. Might have to meet Hubbs.

Shoutouts to Philly:

Philadelphia - the crappiest city in the US?

Philly getting exposed by Taiwanese animation?? Good thing I’m moving to the rudest city soon.

Dang. I don’t think Philly is that bad. Is NY really better?

Truth be told, as someone that lives in both cities currently. NyC is THAT much better.
I only come to philly because it’s close to my folks, I have a business here, and my crash spot is pretty sweet. Sometimes I drive around in Philly and think
that the city officials get up everyday and just say…

Fuck it.

On another note

No sweat brother, if you can make it out I’ll push to have the sessions on Sunday again. More people equals more fun.
Sides while a heated 1st to 10 can be fun, it can get a bit tiring if there’s only 3-4 people. This week we’ll be rocking:
MvC3, SF:AE, with some hints of VF and a touch of who knows what.

not sure

runs fine on my pc
