Rolento please.

are you making any money off this? cause if not, you definitely should be

Thanks for the awesome keychains at ECT. I bought a ton for friends and myself

Do you know the person who was selling them?

I never gave permission for that person to sell my sprite designs at ECT2.

Do know that he was illegally selling my art work and legal action will be taken.

so i dont know if its you but from the looks of it someone at this FADC stream is selling the sprites too. i just seen 2 people with abel and rufus as necklaces.

Yeah, I saw the Rufus one, they must have bought it from that guy I’m trying to identify.

I’m not at ECT2 and have also never sold any sprite keychains. So any sprite keychains you do see in the wild is from someone profiting from my art work.

You know, I realize you put some time into creating these sprites, but why can you claim exclusivity over them? It’s not like you invented the idea of retro sprites for 3D videogame characters. If someone makes sprite accessories that aren’t carbon copies of your designs but are slightly different, they should be allowed to sell them imo.

Don’t get me wrong, please understand I don’t mind people selling their own sprites that are different from mine.

However, selling sprites that are EXACTLY THE SAME as my designs is basically stealing since they’re copyrighted to me. This isn’t about just an idea we’re talking about but rather my own art work.

I did spend lot of time in designing them and there is no coincidence that they look the way they do because I’m the one who made them that way.

Going by your logic, one could make a copy of a movie, change the colors a bit and adding in your own sound effects & voices (thus making it “slightly different” and not a “carbon copy” of the original) and be allowed to sell it without any penalties/repercussions? I don’t think that would fly, don’t you agree? One would probably get fined and end up in jail by doing so.

Ultimately, whoever sells my sprite designs is breaking copyright law.

Check this out, Copyright Information for Artists: How Copyright Laws Protect Your Art.

Art, if I wanted to be picky about it, I could say you plagiarized my sprites, since you remade all the ones I came up with only slightly different. On that same note, we both stole the character likenesses from Capcom. I think you just need to let it go.

All I’m saying is people are profiting off my art work plain and simple and I have a problem with that. I honestly have not made a single penny thus far from my sprite designs.

In other news, working on a Super SF4 wallpaper and it’s coming along nicely!

hey dude, i was there during ect2. he was actually giving you credit every time someone asked if he made these. just saying. although he was charging people, it was still for the sake of the community, not everything comes for free. it takes time and money to make those things, and he had over 50. it’s not like he’s making a living off of it there is definitely no reason to complain. you can go on all you want about copyright laws, but all in all you’re stealing both the mega man and street fighter concept from Capcom, although it’s not for profit it’s still the fact of the matter. he definitely knows about your complaints and i can tell you he does not feel bad, you’re always talking about doing stuff for the community but all in all you’re just concerned about your own popularity.

p.s.
he had a rolento and a couple of really well made 3rd strike characters.

Thank you for your post/comments. Since I wasn’t there in person I had no way of knowing how he was operating. At the very least he could have given me a heads up since he knew exactly where to find my sprites.

By the way, did you happen to take any pics of those 3s sprites? I’m curious to see how they turned out.

I’ll try with the pictures. I know and understand that you would have wished to have been asked permission, it’s just not something that crosses peoples minds. Nobody would have thought you would have gotten mad only because, in a way he was just doing that same thing as you and that was sharing what was made for people to have and enjoy. If stealing was the case, then Capcom would have shit on everyone in this forum(for example; custom fightstick art). Yes money was involved, but the materials used to make them becomes costly, I’m sure you understand that. It’s also pretty clear that none of it was done with ill intention. I also think that if something like this happens again, instead of handling it as immaturely as you did, you should try waiting for the event to end, then taking it up with the organizer in private. To be honest with you John had a lot of other things to worry about then your reputation.

Here.

do what you want.

Looks pretty slick, thanks for taking the time to draw that out.

After politely making requests to many people to refrain from selling my sprite designs online with success this year, it was definitely a first of that magnitude and what prompted me to act irrationally.

At the end of the day, I’m truly not trying to be the bad guy here (nor trying to step on any toes) and do have everyone’s best interest in mind; giving out due credit.

I publicly offer my humble apologizes to John and the person who was selling my sprites (I still don’t know his name) for any statements/accusations I’ve made that were unjust.

Again, thank you Rovezer0 for your thoughts and comments and for being classy.

Life is study and I got a lot more to learn.

I’m sorry but… no “it didn’t cross my mind” isn’t an excuse. People get fired and sued over that shit on a daily basis, and as nice as it is that the guy was giving credit to ReyArt at ECT2, I think that if the guy is smart enough to put together items for sale (which probably took a few days at the least), he’s clearly smart enough to at least shoot a PM (which takes all of 30 second). I HIGHLY doubt ReyArt would have said no, but it’s the fact that the sprites were showing up on stream out of nowhere that is the cause for concern since he’s got no way of knowing what the intentions were of the seller. Perhaps he was passing them off as his own? Even if he wasn’t, how is ReyArt supposed to know that?

Okay, freaking out isn’t the best way to go about getting answers, and no he didn’t go about this the best way, you’re absolutely right in that perspective. I just think that the guy should’ve given head’s up. If I’m at EVO selling my board, and for some reason I see a need to utilize a picture of a Cthulu board, you bet your ass I’m at least shooting Toodles a PM to inform him that I’d like to utilize an image of something he made/designed. Even if I’m not making money directly off of his product, it’s still helping to get the point of what I’m selling across to people.

For the record, it sounds like you know who the guy was doing the selling on more than just a “I met him at the tourney” level, and the fact that this guy isn’t making a case for himself is shady enough as it is. If he doesn’t feel bad about it, and clearly is on this board in some way, you’d think he’d be okay with at least coming in here and showing that himself.

So what did the guy use to make the keychains? I haven’t seen any good resolution images of them and I am curious.
