Last tourney was a joke 2d gaming wise, GGXX had entrants but that was just Colorado migrating towards Albuquerque and playing themselves in a different city/state including like 2 Dallas players, so I personally can’t think of anything, but hopefulyl something will work out.
Just make sure DFG runs absolutely nothing and we’re gravy.
Not that I don’t think this is a good idea.
But just like Onslaught said. 2d Fighting is a joke here. You’ll get the same 8 people showing up each time for every game.
I cant wait… When is the tournament?
NVGA really dropped the ball last year, and with no out of town comp the 2d scene isn’t too big
lets wait till sfiv and hdr drop, i believe you could get numbers for those assuming you can either offer a good prize or at least a cheap entry fee
no more of this $30 plus pot fee for entry, thats what evo cost, and there is WAY more at stake at evo. unless the entry fee is low, do not expect much attendance
marvel and cvs are virtually dead, and there is realistically no st, alpha, gg, or 3s scene, or at least none that i know of
Guile back fist!
[I made this long rant. But there’s no point.]
Dude you my freind are fucking awesome thank you for your enthusiasm. I’ve been told somewhere around April.
I agree the 30$+pot fee is outrages and I was pissed as well but theres more to it like lack of sponsors so not only did the admin director of NVGA(not DFG) spend 100’s of hours of personal time and $200 cash out of his own pocket to help pay for venue and AV then to get screwed by the anime club I’m just saying it’s not easy and then everybody has shitty attitudes towards you even though you do this for them cause I doubt anybody likes to spend all that time and there own money.
3D scene is no better my friend I’ve been playing Tekken for about 12 years now and at every tourny I see the same 6-8 people that I’ve played against for the last decade but does that dicourage me to run a tourny with those same people Hell NO because rarely do we all get together so when we do it’s hella fun and hella worth it.
Please there is a point I’m new to the leadership position on NVGA and I’m here cause I think things need to change so I promise you I WILL LISTEN.
Guys I understand the scene is small and everybody and there mother play video games but very few play competivly. I can’t make the 2D scene grow especially since I’m not even a part of it but I can help and try. Would it help if I found a venue for everybody to get together like once a week like a bar that will let us use a TV? or like I said before everybody is welcome at my house if you guys would want I could put a Tv in the garage and this Sunday and we could get some games I could meet you guys and we could all have some talks about how to help the scene grow and what could make for better tournaments.
ok man, you sound very eager, and very serious. 2D fighting is about to get two of the biggest titles in ten and 15 years. SFIV and HD remix WILL be big, weather they’re big here in ABQ, i don’t know, i think that depends on how we, the hardcore (or at least those of us here on srk), promote our games, if we hold HDR and SFIV tournies a few weeks after they’re released and promote them (hopefully at high schools and college’s, or at least college’s) chances are we can get something bigger going here.
anyways, we should meet up and talk sometime Ruggedman, i really appreciate your enthusiasm
If you guys want people to take NM more seriously, step your game up and upload vids on YouTube to prove you’re no joke.
We have AZ, CO, CA, TX, etc. very close by, so we definitely should be able to get big tourneys going.
You have to make people want to come. Guaranteed pots, nice prizes, badass nights on the town, whatever it takes. I think it may even take a little bit of money out of our own pockets, but we could do it. Put aside $10 or so a paycheck. If every one of us could do that, we’d be able to fatten those pots. $20 a piece every month from all of us till April adds up very fast. Just an idea, I guess. I’m sure there is a better suggestion out there.
Please help make NM a force to be reckoned with.
Joe with his badass ideas! I’d be down, and April is super far away, but with me aiming to going to Devisation and Dallas around the same time, this will be tricky!
PS, Joe, I will be borrowing a stick this weekend hopefully, do you guys have an extra innovation converter? And B) Charlie Goblyn was asking if I’m coming down to Devisation in Feb, would you want to hit that shit up? I would try to get housing with him or maybe one of the other Marvel peeps! Let me know!
Yes and sooner than later preferably. I’m off work this weekend and all next week so whatever is good for you and I’m still up for games on Sunday.
No this is brilliant Joe so what do you think of saving up for a good SF4 pot it should be out by then rite?
You guys seriously just put up 2 post with very helpful info even if it seems obvious to you guys this to me extremely helpful I can’t thank you guys enough.
is devastation that az tourney?
lol.
LOL!!!
Everyone who is interested in tournaments:
Come to the tournaments I run. They are good now but will be great soon enough.
http://www.coloradofusion.net/forum/showthread.php?t=5270&page=1
The line up right now includes some of the last generations games while we are still waiting on the new ones. As soon as these new games drop, we will be dropping the older ones off completely. That might not appeal (Row comes to mind) to some people but, we want to move on. Im hoping evo moves the same direction.
If we could guarantee a few hundred bucks for 1st in SF4, I’m thinking people will come.
I play SC4, also. =P
Mike, I’m definitely down for Devastation next year! Gotta rep LC Marvel! But yeah, that’s the only Innovation converter we have. =(
troof, te first tournament i ever went to was one of halfro’s, and i must say it was a great expereience. it went very smoothly and was really hype. Halfro really has his shit together, i want to try and get up there for the next tournament in december.
and row, i’m right with you, if we can guarnatee at least 2-3 hundo for first place, we will have travelers. and if we charge a small “scene builder’s fee” we can start getting a big pool for prizes and good equipment.
i’m really liking the thoughts going on here. It will take some work, but i bet we can all help put NM, on the fighting game map, lets make ABQ a good cheap weekend of gaming and more!
Row: I didnt know you played anything else besides mvc2, thats all ive ever seen you play
Well if you take sc4 any kind of serious, the last sc4 tournament we had here had 42 people. When tvc hits home, will you be picking that up?
Zal: Thanks for the good word man. If you can make it out this time, give it a try.
if tvc hits you mean…
anyways i agree with what joe says but really think about what it means to make a scene. you can do all that stuff joe said but ultimately its up to the players. its not just because entry fees are thirty dollars if they travelling then theyre willing to pay that but its because of comp and in turn pots become small. you can upload vids to youtube but thats not gonna do much. you guys gotta actually travel to up yalls levels instead of looking at it like well if i go im gonna get waxed. everyone gets waxed you just gotta get up and move on as long as you learn somethin.
another note yall dont try to build the scene from what i remember hell it may have changed in my abscence but as many scrubs that play in all those games and no one has offered to make them better? dog everyone (in my era) myself included was a scrub killer in one ways than one. we did it cuz it was funny but realistically we didnt know how to play the game which showed at the bigger tourneys. allen plays cuz of me always pushing him to jump on marvel and he says he dont play to get better cuz everyones bout beating his ass thats it. jeff wont play him cuz he deems him scrub and everyone laughs at derrick cuz he was a masher who didnt believe in infinites. pi laughed at me and murked my ryu spidey and venom when i first played (the reason i play marvel) and i use to just jump on to try gimmicks on people.
all that is why the marvel scene is partially what it is there. thats why players like brett and luiz were like whatever when it came to marvel cuz they both said they aint that great in relation to the pedestal we put them on they were good cuz they actualy played the game enough to see through tricks. plus thats a way to lose potential players like brad (dhalsim/bh player).
if yall started recruiting people in whatever game yall want to create a scene for and was like yo this wont work cuz of this and that reason or if you do this you get that etc etc people cross the board will be competition. yall either make the community or dont complain about its small being. period.
Its wii import dec 13th.
On building a community, I know this problem all too well.
http://coloradofusion.net/forum/showthread.php?t=4939&page=1
Ive been trying to build on my community for the last 2 years and its hell, lol. Only lately have a bunch of new people shown up. We have gotten, recently, probably 6-8 new people which is alot for us honestly. One of the keys I think has been advertisment. If you noticed that little flyer on the link, I pass those out on occasion to places where gamers go to pick up games or hang out. (All game stores in my area, arcade). It really a numbers game, the more flyers you get out, the more potential players that can join your group. You guys should give it a try.
One other thing i did was host a tournament at one of the local game stores around here (Play n trade). It gets you in good with the owners and you can drop off all kinds of promotional stuff for your group too.
And this is where I butt out, good luck guys and stick with it because getting new serious players is a bitch.
:rock::tup:
Well said, though I’ve been trying to get games with people so I could learn a little 2D it just seems like my request are ignored but that’s okay I’ll keep trying.
Half-ro all good stuff you are doing I actually even threw a tourny at my house and gave away a stick I had modded it was hard but it was fun we added a new person to our scene so that’s 2 for me it’s slowly but surely.
Remember guys this is the year of the fighters especially with SF4 I think this alone is a huge opportunity to snag new players so I’m pretty excited and I think everybody should be.
