New Mexico, ABQ

You don’t know the half of it.

If I ran an arcade and did’nt play games. Chances are I would’nt give two shits either.

And it is shocking, you really have no idea! :wonder:

i do understand, i’ve seen so many good arcades go to shit, its fucking sad.

i just can’t fathom why you’d want to become the manager of an arcade if you didn’t like arcade games.

with the release of console SF4 i think it may be time to re-think the arcade…

are there any other places we might want to throw tournaments? especially considering how the springs in the sticks at tilt are all pretty loose, except for maybe the right side on cvs2. i dunno about you guys, but maybe one of those lan party/game spaces i’ve been hearing about. however i’ve seen a few such arangements fall or fall apart. i’d like to get something going so we can get a whole fighting game community going, enough players so that we can actually plan events, and travel together and the like. i wanna see ABQ become a presence in national tournaments

that last part is up to the players not the state really. if the players dont wanna travel the scene grows weak or very limited at most. with that said has anyone given thought to final round?

Hey Zal, maybe you should also go ask Gamestop employess why they don’t play games. It’s pretty simple (IMO anyways) it’s because it’s an easy job for shit pay!

Some people just won’t care, and that’s a good reason why arcades are dead in US.

Arcades aren’t dead because the owners don’t care, they’re dead because people can get the same and better games at home. Remember back in the day when consoles couldn’t come close to arcade quality sound and graphics?

If we want to give ABQ a name, we need to meet up and just play. Im willing to play on a different day but it needs to be the same day every week. What day are you guys playing at Pi’s? I’ll show up too.

Sorry I couldn’t stay longer guys. Had to get home for dinner and help my kid with her homework. Let me know what day we want to do this. Best time for me would be either early, like 10 am, or after 7:30 at night.

I’ll play Marvel as well as CvS2 and Tekken. Im not a big SC fan. And if I have to I’ll play 3S. KOF XI is always fun though.

Ok I didn’t wanna get into deep about this. But I once was a manager of tilt for a year. And YOU REALLY DON’T KNOW WHAT THEY GO THROUGH!

Besides the fact that is it a arcade. It’s also a business, and from the year I worked they’re. Fighting games hardly do any business.

Since the scene here for fighting games is dead. The manager is not going to care. Yes you can say “Well if they fix the games more people will play.” Then tilt can come back and say “it’s not making any business why should we?”

So what I’m trying to say about your statement is that from a managers point of view “As long is the game is playable. It’s just fine!”

And Onslaught is correct, some of those people can not tell you who Leon S. Kennedy is. Game Stop doesn’t really care about their customers. All they care about is selling those game stop card and video game reservations. And the job is way easier than working at Game Stop.

another thing, if the sticks suck at tilt. No one is gonna know unless you tell someone. They don’t bother me. And I can play it just fine, so that’s why I don’t say any thing.

Give Up

if i did that then i cant continue to teach scrubs bout how fierce i am

i’m not really blaming anyone, its the state of the industry. I guess there is just no way for there to be a revival in the FG scene in the arcade out here in NM. I think the move to console is pretty much a done deal

i don’t mean to bitch, but if the machines cost a quarter and had even just springier sticks (considering that a spring cost 2 bucks…)i’d go to tilt every chance i got. but at fifty a play and sticks that i’m not comfortable with do not make me want to go to the arcade, especially when i could use any stick i want at home for free. and i love the arcade, its such a cool environment, or at least it used to be.

I think all arcade gamers are in a really shitty place right now. Casual gamers have really killed the market for arcade games.

I think its due both to the laziness of arcade operators in the 1990’s, and a lack of care on the part of the consumer. Most gamers would rather buy some shitty game for their xbox 360 and beat it within a week just to return it. Its sad, but most gamers could really give a rats ass about games that take more than just running through a tutorial.

The only scene around NM is 3D fighting : SoCal4, T5DR, Brawl. And FPS. Hardly any 2D.

The only game you seem to care about is CvS2.

And you didn’t even listen what Pi had to say. Obviously cause you’re still ranting about stuff that has already answered.

Your only complaint is how everything at the arcade sucks and how playing at home is a lot more fun for you. Then do it and stop complaining. You’re wasting my time listening to you gripe about shit. The sticks on CvS2 work fine. Just adjust like everyone else. Another thing, there’s no way possible you can find a stick that you can play comfortable on. If the moves, combos, etc. come out. That’s all that matters. It’s playable, right?

ok, nevermind, i think you’re missing my point…

when is a day thats good for everyone? fridays, saturdays, and sundays work well for me. thursdays even good too. How about we do one week at tilt, and one week at someones house and alternate every week? cvs, marvel, 3s, kofxi, and ae are all the games i have. While i can really only play cvs and ae worth a shit i’m down to play whatever else. Something to hold me off till sfiv

well in general since it is a public venue its not as easy as just switching the spring or joystick etc. you cant do such for one player and not do it for another because it doesnt feel right to you. you do unfortunately have to adjust but thats something that you must consider when you play. overall it is a business and as a business you want to make money not keep spending it. so yes as long as its working decently (hitting all the corners, reading all the buttons, not loose nor too tight) its functional and is working well. now when it comes to tournament then it would be smart to check out your machines and put new parts in to its fair for everyone seeing as no one would be use to that at that one point in time but thats the only time i can see it needing to be “fixed” outside of being completely broken.

THIS has nothing to do with the state of the industry since it is just simple business sense. as far as the decline we are now at the point where we can play arcade games at home. with that being said if youre a business owner and your demand is high in one particular area and only so so in another wouldnt you want to make money with the least amount of time needed? thats how the console arcade thing works. arcades are still around but the “fun” games are where the most people are and with the help of online play it makes it a lot easier to everyone to get that competitive/fun feeling of interacting with others in their homes.

its a business man its a business and its conveinent

The Top half of your post is only half true though (just my opinion)

Alot of Arcade managers or owners do NOT know what’s hip, what’s new, what’s interesting enough to at least gain a miniature fan base at there local gaming location, let alone the type of games that appeal to the local competitor.

The thrill of competition is what creates a solid gaming community, no matter what the game, DDR MAX #2 and all those after it, San-Francisco Rush, War, Soul Calibur, NBA Hangtime, NBA JAM T.E., Street Fighter (under all plat forms) Virtua Fighter & Tekken (You get my point).
People blame online gaming, or home console systems for the Arcade drought but in all honesty along with that is total ignorance (Number #1) on behalf of the men & women in charge, as well as the gamers/competitors.

The most recent generation is all about shit talk, THEN learning the game later.

People usually read about a certain game, gain interest through word of mouth, find a glitch or two, hop online, then butcher it and label themselves “The Best”.
Gamers now-a-days like to hide behind there internet or headsets, not really looking for a true challenge.

If we all REALLY believe in leaving something for our children too go to with there friends, if we all truelly believe in the thrill of competition, we would host gatherings, or attend our local arcades, show some interest, put ourselves out there a bit, someone in charge will see, take heed to your lead by example tactics, and possibly take in any helpful information.

Here in Atlanta, I helped start a Tournament scene smack dab in the heart of the city, a local Arcade inside a tourist attraction entitled Underground Atlanta.

Along with some great gamers & friends Clint aka EWDF, EJ aka DAH, Brandon aka Slayer X4, and many more, we convinced the owners to allow me too host tournaments there, they trusted us because when ever we came into there precious lil’ arcade we brought people, we kept the game or games running, even when the casual gamers came in it produced a crowd, it drew attention to an otherwise drab arcade.

I hosted a total of 112 Tournaments at that location and with the help of our gaming community, the money we produced for the couple who ran it and owned it, they retired 12 years before they expected to do so, sold the arcade back in 2004 or 05.

I have made some very good friends and became a part of a larger and still growing family in E.M.S., thanks too myself and others we have a legit scene here, thanks to the South’s big brother Shinblanka we have one of the hottest and largest tournaments held in the south “Final Round”

If I were you guys, I’d post in you thread more often, find some place to meet middle of the road, get those competitive juices flowing, we would love to see some cats from New Mexico come represent themselves.

“Just a suggestion fella’s” !!

yous a long way from home son looks like you took that wrong turn in albuquerque

well since he mentioned. once again WHOS COMIN TO FINAL ROUND?!?!?!?!

Not to trivilaize what everyones saying, but quite frankly who cares if the arcade scene in ABQ is alive or dead? I want to play CvS2, I don’t care if its console or arcade.

The arcade is a fun scene but there are plenty of outlets to build a community for a game. Message boards, game cafes, online play. Just because arcades are barely alive doesn’t mean fighters have to be.

Zal, the sticks work fine, its personal preference. Left stick is stiff, right is looser.

Pi, se7en, I really do want to get together with you guys and Zal for some CvS2 for longer than an hour. I’ll go to your place. Console is just cheaper thats all.

Well that’s easy for you to say if your going to be the one to invite 30 or more people to your home every time someone wants to have a gathering.

Gaming Cafes SUCK, you pay to play for hours which is cool BUT the people who usually attend those places on the norm are Non-competitive, they cannot take losing, and if they see you there on the norm they will avoid you at all cost, which kills any chance of creating a legit scene for your community and becomes a waste of time.

This is a message board (duh) and you are using it to get and keep in contact with other interested gamers, the PROBLEM is getting the interested gamers to touch base all at once to get something going.

Online play is never nor will it ever be the same as playing in a tournament, Lag is the BIGGEST issue with ALL forms of competitive gaming, how can you learn to TRAIN and get BETTER if you can’t parry on time because one person has DSL or cable, the other has dial up  WTF??
As great a fighting game as Tekken is, it’s online play is GARBAGE, avid tournament players despise playing online too the point where we (The G’s) had to make a mutual agreement with other competitors, known or un-known, to NOT grab while engaged in battle online, because the timing is so garbage.

Online Play also opens the door for cheap tricks, glitches, etc.
Things that are in the game true and are often fun but come on, when you are sitting there trying to LEARN and get better in a game but this person and that person is using codes, cheats, lag etc, How can you reach your ultimate goal??

at the time i preferred arcade cuz it got me out the house everyday and i met new people at the mall and got benefits on somethings. wish i would have had more though but oh well.

Yamazaki speaks the truth.

So I have a question, now that I’m a resident of New Mexico, am I a contender for number 1 in CvAss in the state?

you talk to skip about that shit, he’s probably the best up here right now
