I agree with Frisbie. I’m not sure if paying to bring them down here is the most effective way to spend money. We could focus on marketing and making the tournament bigger and better. It’s much easier and more productive to involve as many locals as possible. If we demonstrate an ability to get big numbers then next year the pros might be motivated to come on their own. Shit, if we get a big enough turnout, we could generate interest from bigger sponsors (Madcatz for example) for next year’s event.
I’m all for increasing our national exposure; there just might be better ways to do it.
For the record, I agree completely. I don’t want this to be a big expenditure, but I want to know what sorts of things I can and cannot promise. I’m fairly certain that a few of my friends will make it out like they did last year, and that if Juicebox has the time/money to do so he’ll tag along. Don’t feel like he’s looking for handouts or anything. I just feel like it’s only fair that I ask what sort of perks Justin got, and what Juicebox can expect as well. I understand he doesn’t have the same pull that Justin does, so I’m not expecting all the stops to be pulled out. I just ask for the genuine interest of a person I consider a friend. That’s all.
Okay that makes sense. Well then I think it would be more productive to bring in someone like Juicebox who seems like he could encourage more out-of-towners to show up rather than discourage them as JWong did.
I don’t think Justin coming discouraged players as much as every one thinks. I don’t think many Denver players would have came down, if he wasn’t coming.
With that said, i think all the money should go into running the tournament (pot bonus). Yes, we can help get a few players here, but we shouldn’t have to go all out to help them.
I think you hit the nail on the head. To have JWong the best Marvel player in the world here when Marvel was hype was truly in all real meaning of the word epic. Alex I can’t thank you enough for getting that ball rolling.
I honestly believe if someone did not come out because Jwong was here there not really into the fgc anyway. The mentality here of having a world class player a true legend visit our local tourny being a bad thing is mind blowing. As a player you should be thinking wow I get to see some serious level of gaming, I want to play him and see how far I am, It’s J fucking Wong.
Nobody here has a chance to win any money anyway except Garrett so why not embrace such a celeb in the fg scene.
As far as monitors, we will have a mix of Asus and the monitors from last year. I can’t give specific numbers at the moment but we should have enough to run the tournaments on the Asus while leaving the Vizios for the casual boothgoers.
Here’s our schedule set up for the event. We tried to get as many fighting games as possible on Saturday, but we had to move some to Friday. It’d just be too hard to run six fighters in one day, plus the FPS and other things as well. http://supercon2k.com/super-cons/abq-comic-con/
The page still needs some work, but for now it is a good general idea of what time everything will be starting.
If I still lived down in NM I would love to go to one your events. When I visit I might have to see if you guys have anything going on at that time. I wish I would have known about the FGC when lived down there.
