New Mayflash ""Fighting Stick" for PS3 and Wii also PS2 and Wii

We’ll still love you no matter what happens though. Never forget that crucial fact.

lmao 25 bucks is it worth for SRK love? oh shit.

Yes. Yes it is.

So is it the same stick and buttons as the old mayflash?

Being a lousy cheap bastard thats the only stick I have, and the clicking and wobbling of the stick is unfortunate.
The buttons look the same, but they were never a serious issue anyway.

You’re doing it wrong. These are bought w/intention to install upgraded parts or for some even just the PCB itself.

fr49200 / Akane’s [insert ambiguous number] husband, did the Mayflash stick arrive yet? I’d like to see the outcome of your purchase. No matter how cruel it was.

Stick has arrived in the mail. Gonna try to pick it up today if i don’t get held up with other things.

waves a hand in the air

You will not get held up with other things…

Okay, so I decided to out into the snow New York got after this passing monday, and picked up the arcade stick. Please excuse the rather lack of detail in the photos; these were taken with my cellphone as my digital camera was on the fritz. Anyway, on to the stick.

This is the stick inside its box. Got to say, I wonder about the shoebox design.

The presentation is on the whole alot better than the first mayflash. this at least is not as plain.

The stick is a hell of alot lighter than the first one, which was light to begin with. Its a uniform black like the first one, but is alot better looking. The buttons and stick are actually alot better than the first one. However, that’s like saying the shit I took last night was better than the one I took last week. The buttons and joysticks are slightly more responsive than the originals. I totally feel like I could play on these for a couple of months.

The bottom is…damn near the same as the original.

The screws are right underneath the the pads, so just remove them like you did the first and you’ll have instant access to the inside.

OH SON OF A- I shouldn’t even be surprised. They apparently never learned about this, but whatever. Yeah, its once again, a full button PCB. Hope everyone has their solders ready.

I don’t think anyone can see very clearly, but almost all that white on the PCB is dry glue. I thought I was gonna get high from the fumes. Opening that shit up released a huge smell of glue into my room. I don’t know if it was from where I bought this from or if it was factory, but yeah. Bad glue job.

Can’t wait to rip this shit off.

This is the stock joystick. Very similar to the original. It was a pain opening the damn thing though. That’s when I discovered something.

I don’t know if you can see it very good, but there’s seems to be four screws that hold the top of the joystick chasis to the front faceplate of the stick. Here I circled it with paint

Since I have no idea how the faceplate comes off, I have no idea how to change the joystick outside of removing the top of the chasis on the new stick, and just replacing the stock parts with the new parts.

So thats what I can about the stick so far. Any questions, let me know.

Hmm…

How is the height of the case? It looks a lot shorter, which can only mean bad things in terms of joystick modding. =/
Comparable to the original Mayflash? Or is it like the Hori Fighting Stick 3 (>_<), which it seems to have copied off of?

EDIT: Oh hey I can see the pics now lol.

Maybe the button board is just a daughterboard and the actual points of interest are on the main board? Not sure of course, haha!

Oh, and thanks for your hard work! …Does it work on your PS3? lol

Hmm, that stock joystick is gonna be a problem when it comes to upgrading it.
There better be a way of accessing the top

Possible to find out if there is “printed art” on it or is it a piece of plastic on the top? Easiest and non-messiest way to get it off (for me) is to use a hair dryer to soften glue if it has any.

Wait there… a Mayflash stick using Hori style, soldered buttons?

Is this… is this the first sign of the Apocalypse?

Well most low-quality Chinese sticks use the molding of out-of-production Hori models anyway, so it’s not unlikely the innards are that much different.

Like those Wrestle sticks having the Hori SCII molding. Hell, I’ve seen imitation ROYDS sticks too. The old Mayflash is just an “oversized” low-budget Hori without top metal plate (regrettably as that would’ve made the sound of buttons and joystick more bearable).

Here’s hoping the button PCB is actually optional and can be removed.

If it’s lighter than the old MF stick than I’m guessing it doesn’t have a faceplate and the joystick is mounted flush with countersink screws.

Just wanted to let you guys know. After some playtesting with the stick, this stick works instantly with windows vista. Havent tried it with 7 or XP, but I actually didn’t need any 3rd party drivers or anything; just plug it in and it worked right away with MAME.
Once I find some quick disconnects, Ill change the buttons and sticks and post the results.

I may bite and grab one too to see what I can drop in it… at $25, I’m not really too concerned with what happens.
Looks like I’ll be getting the ps3 version, as the Wii version is $40 on amazon.

fr49200: Try removing the stock artwork and then maybe those screws keeping the stick in place will accessible. You’ll have to remove the buttons first to have an easier time removing that artwork.

Sorry for necroing this thread, but I just bought this stick and was wondering whether fr49200 got around to modding it. I’m thinking of upgrading to a Seimitsu LS-30 and Sanwa buttons but wanted to know whether the process of modification is similar to the old Mayflash fighting stick or needs some slight adjustments, seeing as the PCB is different from the older version.

I just recently went to Mayflash’s site on a whim, and discovered the existence of this beauty. I dunno how you guys feel, but I personally adore Mayflash stuff. They make very good adapters and their older versions of the PS2/USB stick are great when sanwa modded. I want this stick.

Several questions for fr49200:

  1. How much did it cost? I’ve looked around on ebay and amazon and don’t see the PS2/USB version you got there for sale anywhere. Would you possibly be willing to buy one and ship it to me if I send you payment before hand? I’m in Ontario (Canada).

  2. What are the measurements, especially in the interior? It looks about the same size as the older version, but it’s hard to tell.

  3. Since the turbo functions got chanced to switches, how do the switches feel? Super cheap and they’ll break easily or are they good enough not to worry about?

  4. How big are the face buttons? 28mm again or are they finally giving us 30mm buttons?

5 If possible, could you please take higher resolution photos? I really appreciate the photos you did provide, but more detailed pics would be a great help.
