Alrighty. So I’ve been out of the game for a while, just getting back in, and realize I don’t know much about a lot of these matchups…as in I see lots of info, some contradictory and some not, but am not sure as to what to post.
So here’s my proposal: Let’s go through the cast, and try to come up with an agreed upon strategy for each matchup. This way we can hit up the matchups that still need information, and make sure that each one is up to date and fleshed out as well as it can be at this point in time. Considering that Evo has now come and gone, I’d imagine there are many new things out there for us to add to this guide…
So lets start with Abel.
Abel
Spoiler
Abel
Guaranteed Demons:
Blocked Rekka (CoD): Super only, after the 1st hit
Blocked Wheel Kick: Super only
Blocked Super/Ultra: Super and Ultra
Strategy:
Abels?s ability to land his ultra with relative ease and ability to get in through your fireballs can make this match a pain for an Akuma player. Luckily for us, Abel doesn?t have a good anti-air. >:]
In general, Abel has a hard time dealing with jump-ins and pressure. This is one of the matchups where Akuma not only can but should be played with a rush down game plan. Once Abel has his ultra, your zoning game is severely hampered; if he catches you throwing a fireball when activating his ultra, he will pass through and put the hurt on you. If Abel gets on the offensive, just look for an opening to teleport out and try to take back the initiative.
Always be looking for the roll to get an easy throw. From there you have an easy jump in setup.
Use RH kicks to apply pressure, Abel has no answer for a well-spaced RH.
He has poor AA, so abuse cross ups and demon flip mix ups
Zoning is fine early in the match, but once he has ultra be careful when throwing fireballs
When on the defensive look to teleport out, it?s going to hurt if he land a combo or command throw

So here’s the current post. What needs to be changed/what information can be added?
Also, looking at this format, I’ll check the Demon thread and update everyone, as well as adding whether or not you can sweep after tatsu in the matchup. (Character specific, right?)
^Standing jab is a good spacer after he has got ultra it stuffs wheel kick and prevents roll mix-up. Don’t get over zealous with sHK because ex CoD with stuff it and if he has meter you might eat an cHP->ultra or falling sky. Without him having ultra neutral jump is a pretty good move for zoning since you can mix-up with either empty->attack/throw/block or FB late->combo to prevent dash in tornado.
-Backdash his block string of cLP->cLP->clMK dash because his tornado/another cLP will whiff and he eats a fun loop combo. Remember Abel is an easy loop character as well as a sLP->cHK character so use these well. Also LK tatsu->Sweep does not land on him so after a loop comboing into sweep instead of LK tatsu is a good option.
Don’t jump at a jumpy abel too much because his jHP is really good and watch out of his cross-up HK because it can look tricky forward-dash/teleport are good here.
For the most part teleport is safe but don’t over use it because if he guesses right dash->HK roll get’s you tornado thrown.
AA demon is a good bet against him since he has no late air to ground attack like cannon strike. Also wheel kick can be demoned on reaction with cMK buffer you just have to be quick.
Your corner game is key in this match considering abel’s lack of getaway options. A well spaced air fb on wake up you can bait ex roll which you can grab and put him back as well as demon if you react right. FB->Dive kick mix-up is great here as long as you time it right you won’t get hit by ex CoD, FallSky, ex wheel.
Cross up tatsu is also a really good option against him since his lack of a decent anti air make him block or use ex to get out.
Good footsies will get you far in this match-up just watch out for his meter->ex CoD->FADC->cHP->Pain
I definately don’t have enough experience in this match-up, but in player matches not long ago I ran into a guy named j0ns11 or something who should be somewhere on this site and caught me not really understanding what to do.
Seemed like it’s not just Ultra that kills fireballs and looking to stuff dodgey rolls with throw/Supers when he tries in desperation to get in isn’t a useful bet.
Guy was able to HK/EX Roll under fireballs from almost full screen and command throw me, roll through my ground pokes (and crossups) to catch me out from behind. Throw, mash crouch jab, SRK, all lost to roll - command throw. Maybe it was just online that was helping him get away with it to some degree? but basicly, I had no ability to zone him at all and he was punishing me everytime I tried something. Could not AA his wheel kick at all btw.
The guy left before I had a chance to figure out my approach to the match.
So yeah, I’d like to hear Akuma’s ground-up gameplan for this match. All I really know that’s effective is neutral jump leads to punishes on command throw when he tries for a mixup.
[Edit] Checking some of the matchup vids on Street Fighter Dojo shows it’s more of a footsie battle and ground fireballs are barely used. Seems like I’d already lost before I’d started with the things I was trying.
character specific on abel
you can also add that the f.hk st.lp loop works
and dont try to punish his roll with your ultra cause his can tornado throw you out of the demon
but i cant remember if it was the ex or the normal version
you can punish it with a lot of stuff…
but like i mentioned above dont try the ultra to punish the roll
you might get thrown out of it =)
fireballs are less usefull doesnt matter if ground or air
pokes and the pressure from jumpins and crossups are the key
the most important things are said on this matchup
ohhh yeah like you said duggish the tatsu crossup sweep work on abel too
Does that not work on everyone? Isn’t it just the tatsu into sweep that is character specific?
And if he can throw you out of the Demon then it’s just a matter of timing, since the idea is to catch him during his roll. Use at your own discretion.
And I’m not trying to be an ass, but instead of repeating a bunch of things people already said, lets try to cut down on the # of posts to get the idea for the matchup down. Danke.
So when Abel does like a short Roll up to you, ending either in front or behind to mixup or whatever, where you’re recovering from something or haven’t simply been waiting to scout it: what’s your best response?
I figure advanced offline Abel’s aren’t going to do this willy-nilly, but the very basics will be helpful to have too.
teleporting away is pretty save and recommend in this situation
cause at this point is where abel start his guessing game
so to not be facing this problem just teleport away
if you try to jump away he will grab you out of the air
i thinkf if you teleport in the opposite way in mean in the way the roll goes
he wont be able to catch you but im not sure on this one
abels roll is like akumas demon flip
it lets him play the guessing game if he gonna throw you if he does fierce punch ultra or does some sort of attack
If you’re playing a good reactionary Abel he can Ultra on reaction your teleport like what Ryu does with his super-Pisses me off. I played an Abel yesterday that even thoughhe did it once I PPP teleported towards him as he was trying to cross me up and he caught me with his ultra.
Added Tatsu > Sweep section…need Sakura and Gouken?
Thank you sir. updating.
And Abel seems to be fairly solid, I’ll update his section as needed, for now let’s move onto Chun Li since it’s being requested?
im not 100% but i think she has different AA’s for different situations, so still be wary when jumping in
i think its her fp, but that’s sort of besides the point.
it works on both sakura and gouken tried it out !
yes chun li is a good choice because the box of her is empty i mean for the tactic one
sooo
who wants to make the start =)
ok bokkin makes it already but we need a little bit more then be patient and bait the opponent into something
i would like to suggest that we first mention all the things that we should do against chun li und avoid against chun li
the demon flip is a important tool in this fight because she really lack of aa also jumpins of course
but when she gets meter you always should watch out for the spinning kick
FA as an aa should be not used since she can knock you out with her mp i think not sure but its a 2 hit attack
and like abel when she gots ultra dont throw a fireball =)
