Also, there’s supposed to be a fight night starting up in Manchester on Wednesdays at Level Up Gaming from 5:30 to 8. I’m going to try and spread the word about the PWA gatherings and the tournament.

I would like a ride thanks. Level Up is only a shady place cuz of the dude who runs the MTG shop inside he’s a fuck head. I sorta know the owner of the actual game store cuz his wife worked with my mom for awhile. I’m gonna go and see how it is, if it’s a suck fest oh well. Eric said he can’t go cuz of work but I’m gonna try my hardest to get him to work an earlier shift or take the day off to give the place a try.

we still have to make a decision about the tourney date. so either a new date further out in the future gets posted or we just run with the 25th (in which case, I can’t go) and say the hell with it and all the players in the area get to play a tourney even though they didn’t get to go to ECT. But we’ve got to tell people something. Also, we going weekly now?

As far as 3SO goes, I will most likely be picking it up as my main fighting game. 3S was already my favorite fighter and the fact that its making its comeback is driving me crazy. Hopefully 3SO can replace Melty at Evo (fuck that game)

Holy crap I remember that day. Probably would have got Judgement but I was buying AC for my sister so it wasn’t my choice.
Good to know on those combos, but I mentioned them to help mix it up a bit and score easy damage. You tend to use the same block strings repeatedly making it very easy to read you and counter is all. The twins have damage but their strength in mixups is what you should be utilizing imo. You also haven’t used the command grab either which is free once im locked down by divekicks in the corner. Just an observation. The Yun matchup becomes way easier once you understand what has frame advantage and what doesn’t. Becoming less salty about it the more I play against the twins.
No love for the anime fighters!!! Regardless Melty did well at Evo and was glad to see it in the spotlight. More games need to be shown love if we are going to continue having a fighting game scene at all, so try to see the big picture even if you don’t like certain games. Playing a variety of games definitely makes you a better player period. Many of the top players in these parts and Mass, CT etc. weren’t born on just SF4 or SF in general.
3s will be fun, but not so sure about a legitimate comeback for it. There is a reason why it was jettisoned from the EVO lineup and relegated to a side game. Most players of this generation couldn’t even get on public transportation by themselves more or less get to an arcade to play 3s in its prime. Plus it’s a pretty polarizing game, very much love it or hate especially with its imbalances (Chun-li, Yun, Akuma). Still buying it though, gotta rep dat Elena! I also play better when not talking anyway so it’s to my advantage to NOT have a microphone lol.
yeah, i tend to play worse when im talking but meh. I use to be more in tune with the FG scene, but ever since I got a real job I’ve been too stressed to ever really read up/ watch anything lol. I’m trying to come back to the FG scene now (after i got pwned in So. Cal), so any criticism is good for me.
btw I totally mained Akuma back in the 3S days… lol! although i did fairly well with my non familiar style (zone/spacing with Messatsu Gou Rasen super hurricane kick). might try and switch my akuma to rush down for 3SO, considering that’s the way he’s meant to be played in that game.
So let me know what people’s thoughts are on the Tournment being moved from the 25th to a later date. Whatever we want to do is fine. Personally the 25 is tough for me (have plans that sat) So John would be there to help out (i will be there Friday Night to get the room setup. We can be flexable If we wanted to move it. I will be over there this evening so I can check the calendar for available dates in July (past the 4th weeked).
No worries Van that’s why we play the game, gotta get better. Anyway regarding the tournament, Kraig and I did some chatting Friday and thought it would be best to move it to August 6th, the week after EVO. Tournament season is well under way and people will be extremely hype after what will undoubtedly be a huge EVO tournament. Plus it gives us a chance to build up more core players from this area so we aren’t depending so heavily on other communities for a decent turnout. With the turnouts we have been getting and what looks like a move to weekly after this next PWA event, it seems like a perfect storm of opportunity. The 25th isn’t good for Kraig, or Adam. The first two weeks of July I won’t be able to attend or contribute if we did tournaments then, plus there are a few majors and GU tournaments those first couple of weeks in July. All culminating in EVO at the end of the month. So August 6th is the ideal date to hold one imo. We can build real excitement via the Fight Nights until then.

the thing about talking while you are playing casuals is that you are helping each other. you can say, right after the moment, you could/should have punished that with x. Furthermore, it can help solidify specific aspects of your game that you are working on. for example, you are working on AA and making sure nobody gets free jump ins on you. When you first start to do that you may need to focus entirely on it, but if you can make it so you can be talking *while *you are performing your focus is split yet you are still achieving your goal. So, when the time comes for you to actually shut your mouth and play for rillz you’ll have been used to using only part of your focus to play well and with your undivided attention you should, feasibly, have slightly better reactions. so chatting while you play helps not only others but yourself. at least that’s how i see it.
good to hear about the date for the 6th. Anybody have any issues with that? Also, who is pumped for game night tuesday–laurence absolutely took revenge in AH3 the other night and blew me up super hard so I’m gonna need some retribution and I haven’t been exposed to the yun army yet so i’m looking forward to seeing that.
For low level arcana skills, right now it is definitely fun and more accessible for me than Melty and BB in regards to its system, no fluff. The Yangs are in full effect, god damn. I think the assumption is everyone is gravitating towards Yun so “i’ll play Yang” lol. Honestly Oni scares me the most so far. That dive punch is faster than you think and that crossover swipe when used properly leads to BIG damage for him…learned that the hard way this morning. To the Yun’s and Yangs: Mash dp in-between blockstrings and light punch harder please, they can’t hear you in Japan just yet. Oh Morton, how I love thee haha. The challenge is really invigorating though.
