Letā€™s begin with our question of the day shall we (someone will respond to it at some point haha): **If you could have one godly talent from this small list which would it be?

-To the dope attendence we are getting at our PWA Fight Nights. I know a lot of you guys are spreading the good word and doing a lot behind the scenes to make that happen. To that a huge thank you! (5 Dragons?? It was just a dream)
-Adam as always making sure we have a cool setup, and being incredibly supportive of the endeavor in the first place.
-P.W.A=Itā€™s an arcade! The day we take that for granted we are done. The coolest venue.
-Luis for lovin my 4 hit soul crushing, earth trembling Jade comboā€¦then promptly dismantling me with that nasty reptile.

Now onto a more pertinent business matterā€¦Tournaments!! Letā€™s GO!!!

First letā€™s get a couple of Date ideas going, hereā€™s what I was thinking: June 4th, 11th, 18th.
With ultimate respect to Souper Bowl, GU these dates could change since we arenā€™t in competition with anyone

-The 4th is a stretch(?) but I am sure we could pull it off with some quick thinking if we choose this route.

Next topic Games and how many?

-The thought here is obviously the most popular. SSF4:AE (may have to push tournament out to accomplish this due to practice time), BlazBlue CS2(numbers dependant, could be a side tournament), MK9 and Marvel. I think you have to run those since they are all hot games right now love them or hate them. Interested parties can also show up for the game that interests them and leave when that tournament ends.

Tournament Format:

SSF4:AE- Singles tournament
Marvel 3- 3v3 Teams, Singles
MK9-Singles, Tag Team(projector would be awesome for this)
BBCS2-Singles

Iā€™m not a tournament organizer, but the line of thinking behind the suggestions spawns from time. MvC3 and MK9 are high damage games and people get rolled pretty fast, therefore more options can be provided for those games. SSF4 matches on the other hand can be pretty long and drawn out affairs. Running singles AND team event for it can be an all day deal ,which I assume we are trying to avoid for efficiency sake. For Blazblue again it is a numbers game with the other titles being bigger draws.

Venue fees; Should be in line with what otehrs are doing being $5-10 depending on the game.

Payouts: Suggesting a look at the UFGT7 post on the front page of SRK. What Keits is doing is a FANTASTIC idea and rewards the efforts of players who may not be ā€œTop 3ā€, Sponsored, etc etc etc, but play hard and positon themselves to be great players down the road. Top dogs still get their money and accolades but it also provides incentive for newer players to come back and in the end that is all that matters (if you care about growth anyway). Our own UltraDavid, Kraig, I am sure can crunch numbers on that to see how it would break down. We can come back with hard numbers for the naysayers and come to a conclusion at that point. Iā€™m all for it.

Advertisement: The next round of flyers should advertise the Tournament regardless of its date. We need to build the hype, thatā€™s it.

my vote is as follows:
PWA Tourney on June 18 (reason: itā€™s a month from right now, on a saturday, and itā€™s a weekend right after a game night so we can get people hype at the fight night and we donā€™t have to deal with people the tuesday immediately following)

venue fee:
$5 (reason: this seems pretty standard but the consideration here is that the space we use is something that PWA charges for. so the day we pick would have to be something they not only agree to, but do not have more lucrative offer staring at them already)

Game list:
AE singles $10, MK9 2v2 at $5 per person, $10 per team, MvC3 either singles or a 3v3 for $5 a head, BBCS2 singles for $5 (and Dan leagues running on a setup toward the end to keep people there and watching and leveling up).

Payoutā€“depending on the number of entrants Iā€™d like to do a Top 8 get paid some amountā€“the top 10% thing is a neat idea but not feasible when considering some people want to play to be the best and prove it, some want the taste of competition, and some do it for fun, and, most importantly, you have less than like 300 people. My reasoning is that, and correct me if iā€™m wrong, but we went into this attempting to unearth various fg communities and get them chatting and helping each otherā€“to help everybody get better. To me, PWA is a sweet training ground and less of a proving ground. I like the idea that if we can get like 50 people to show up to play AE we would pay out the top 10 to encourage continued play and growth for bigger money once you get the taste of it.

I just really want the place to be intrinsically inviting and approachable.

i really want to push for some bbcs2 tournaments, and some ggac side tournies. the reason no one has tournies for these games is because no one pushes for them. i for one want to get better and not have to travel 5 hours to play in a tournament.

Cool points Kraig. The aspect of Keitsā€™ article I like plays into what Tim is saying about traveling 5 hours (although to be good travel is always involved) to play in a tournament. You get the extra incentive to travel further if there is a CHANCE you may be in the money and recoup some of those travel expenses. Gas isnā€™t getting any cheaper, nor are car repairs, or rentals for that matter:sweat:. I do like the suggestion of paying out a top 8 though. As long as it extends beyond Top 3, I like it.:tup: The place will only be as inviting as the players make it; An element we can only control to a small degree. If your an asshole than losing your money to someone you feel you are superior to, isnā€™t going to make you an angel. We have had good luck with that so far though.

@Tim: Are you suggesting a stand alone BBCS2 tournament? Would it make a difference to BB players if it were just a BB tournament vs just one of the games available? SF draws whether Marvel, MK, Tekken etc etc are part of the tournament. Your ear is closer to this community than anyone so you would know the players interests and how much attention it would garner. From a casual outsiders point of view BlazBlue is normally considered subpar, and GG is not a very friendly game given the steep learning curve. Vyers(?) stated as much during our talks at Salt Mines. True or not itā€™s worth a shot, so tell the dustloop peeps to get out to THIS tournament to support/promote their gamesā€¦smash community is a good example. I havenā€™t heard a game more disrespected, but they still show, and travel whenever a tournament or session is available. Speaking of GG who is that supremely salty individual playing Sol? Date: I second Kraigā€™s 18th date! Iā€™ll run on the 12th (or try if I have time to promote).

Games: I like all the Kraig suggested, but Iā€™m wondering how an MK9 2v2 would work. Would we be doing typical 2v2 like in SSFIV or would we be doing tag matches? If we do tag, how do all 4 players use sticks on one xbox or ps3?

I really like the idea of running dan battles to keep players entertained since a lot of time you could go a while without playing a competitive match. I assume Iā€™d be running those for you guys? I wouldnā€™t mind!

I like the idea to payout more than top 3, but only in majors. Pay out summary Top 3 for the smaller/local tournaments

Then we are in agreement. MK is one of those games I find people are pretty split on when it comes to pad or stick, like Tekken. I can only play tekken on pad since the movement in that game requires precision that for me anyway is easier on pad. I still think it would be good to have as a side event since no one has done it yet and itā€™s fun. Apparently no one has experienced DOA 4ā€™s tag mode? Crazy fun! Perhaps pad only? We will have to be creative to get it done, but it is possible. If not I am all for the AE 2v2 in its place as suggested by Brian.

The payout thing everyone has and will continue to have different philosophies on. Like most major tournaments the same faces are usually in the money most of the time. Say what you want regarding that being a motivator to excel and ā€œlevel up your game,ā€ but there are far too many factors that can prohibit players from ever reaching Top 3 status. For many it simply isnā€™t a realistic goal. By extending the margin for error and sharing the wealth a tad bit more you widen the brass ring for aspiring players who come in with self-defeating prophecies (Iā€™m canā€™t beat JWong, Rob stevens etc), tournament jitters, something more tangible to acheive/grasp over a period of time. Doesnā€™t have to be top 8 or even top 6, but I wouldnā€™t find it sacriligious to add another slot or two with a payout of $20 (or even just your venue back) each. Unless itā€™s a major no one is banking anything notable to begin with.

When I asked how do you run MK9 2v2 tag, I was sincerely wondering if anyone knew how! I think if you have the new XBOX slims, they have 4 USB ports. Someone check that out! MK9 2v2 tag would be cool, but I just knew it wasnā€™t possible on the xbox I have because it only has 3 USB ports. (I guess we could look into USB hubs as well, like rockband [answered my own question])

I know you are Tom:razzy: Iā€™ll take a look at the hubs idea, I honestly didnā€™t even think XBox had them. If so I wouldnā€™t mind springing for a couple if they are reasonable. In regards to the payout I was thinking more down the road, not for the immediate future by any means. Just think it would be nice, with the proper timing and implementation. As things are now, iiā€™m sure there would be unrest with any sort of vast changes to the norm.

I completely agree with this. If someone would explain the logic that would be great. Learning various characters intimately seems like more work than learning your bad matchupsā€¦Easy way out perhaps. To each their own though.
