Could you please post a link to your source in regard to “fast releasing”? On SRK wiki i only see that generic 10frame charge plus 11frame release. Or I am just dumb in the moment…
Would be really interested.
thx

Most characters have the 11fr release. Some are actually slower. I’m guessing that’s what he meant.
There’s no link. I said what I said based off of play. All of that is strictly my opinion but is general consensus among the FGC. Or the people I’ve spoken with at least.
Perhaps it’s a matter of how fast the character goes from activation to full extension? That could make the frame data say “everybody starts at the same time” while the experience is subtlety different?
Think of it this way:
You have a punch that’s traveling 2 feet in 2 seconds. The fist would be traveling at 1 foot per second.
You have another punch that’s traveling 10 feet in 2 seconds. That’s 5 feet per second.
The duration of both attacks are the same, but the speed they travel at is much different. That would explain why it looks like Fei’s focus attack comes out super quick even though it takes the exact same amount of time as Gouken’s.
People perceive a lot of things that aren’t true.
Rank these 4 from fastest walk (forward) speed to slowest. WITHOUT looking up the data:
Ryu
Fei
Gouken
Honda
Now rank them for walk (backwards) speed from fastest to slowest…
They all walk at the same exact speed, forward and backwards… When I fight Honda, he seems to move way fast though
My brother plays Balrog, and I was wondering what the best punish is for when he turn punches through my Hadoken

Best is Ultra 1 if you have it stocked.
I mean, it’s up to you what you want to do, but c.lk xx HK tatsu works, EX tatsu works, If you have enough time you can even c.hp xx EX palm.
I generally do EX tatsu or my Ultra if I have it.
I find it is best to win a round without punishing turn punch if you can. Let them think you don’t know how to punish it. Kind of a keep it in your back pocket and let them think they are safe and then punish with a 500 damage ultra for the win.
Keep in mind if he EX straight’s through a fireball you can do the same punishes. If he EX punches from across the screen c.lk xx HK tatsu will break that up too…
How do I not suck butts with Gouken?
How do I apply pressure in the corner?
Is it even possible to win a fireball war? Like, is there some secret slight charge I should be doing to speed up Gohadouken (like Kyo’s super in KoF)?
Defense, I have ideas on what to do, but I am at a complete loss for offense.
The only thing you have to do to apply pressure in the corner with Gouken is push buttons. All of Goukens buttons have priority/frame advantage over everyone if you stagger ending strings with hadouken.
Gouken wins the fireball war vs everyone lol. Just don’t try and war with Ryu anywhere inside half screen because of his ex.
You should just watch videos of good goukens that throw fireballs alot. Proud, Velociraptor and maybe Matt Hazard. All that guy does is throw hadoukens.
As far as execution goes try not holding back before doing the quarter circle forward
To be effective on offense you have to know Goukens normals and when to use them, when to not use them, and when to cancel into something. Most of your offense at the learning stage should be a mix of divekicks, throws, and normals canceled into hadokens which give you great frame advantage. Watch some vids.
Gouken has some disgusting corner pressure, too. There are a few ways to do it:
Gouken has some disgusting corner pressure, too. There are a few ways to do it:
- You can back off and throw hadokens, forcing a reaction… watch out for ex fireballs
- You can get in their face and mix up medium punches and cancels into fireballs
- jab->stand MP->low HP frame trap is good at opening crouch techers in the corner
- jumping light kick into the corner looks like a cross-up and isn’t, learn to love that
jmp lk in the corner is crazy good. Sometimes it IS a crossup, but lands front side. Now that’s just evil.
Been watching a lot of match vids now. Thanks for the quick answer.
There was this other thing too. Uhh, I got matched against another Gouken and he forced me into the corner, at which point he just slammed me with a barrage of cl.st.MK -> fireball over and over and over. The pressure just floored me and it was unlike anything I’ve ever seen. Like, absolutely NO pushback. And the frame advantage! Oh lawdy.
Is it even possible to beat that kind of pressure with normals? How does Gouken handle that pressure?
There’s a small break in between the cl.st.mk and the hadou, it’s not a block string. If you try and push any normal you will get counter hit. You can simply stand throw and you’ll throw him out of the hadouken start up.
You can also parry it… not without its risks, but if he just keeps going it’ll get you out.
Ok I’m confused. Can gouken still not chain cr.lp into special moves? I thought that ultra gave him the ability to do that

yeah u can… ex tatsu works best i think it hits everyone standing or crouching

link, but not chain. 1fr though…
You have to cr.lp, cr.lp, slight delay, cr.lp xx ex tatsu. It’s a one frame link
