Damn, I should have kept up with this thread. There’s a few people including myself playing KOF. Show up on Wednesdays and Fridays, we usually play it on those days. Def need more comp and less people scared of the difficulty.
So who’s NOT going to EVO?
Welp, I’ll be @ Ultimate Gaming Spot for the whole weekend running the live EVO stream on a big screen with games running on consoles.
So why stay at home with the stream on your desktop practicing combos by yourself? Stop by and join our stream party!
Open Saturday?
If Evo’s on, so am I
SOMEONE PLEASE SAVE ME FROM SCHOOLWORK SO I CAN PLAY VIDEO GAMES AGAIN
Stop by BrainBox pretty much any time dude
I’m going to be moving to Cambridge from Nantucket in October and I’ve been wanting to really get into fighting games for a couple of years now, so once I figure out my way around Boston I’ll check out BrainBox for sure. Will you guys be hosting Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and/or Dead or Alive 5? I can’t wait to get some actual matches - I only get to play Tekken offline a couple of times a year at Anime Boston and Otakon and as anyone who’s tried to play Tekken 6 online can tell you, it’s a crapshoot. I’ll subscribe to the facebook page when I get home from work so I can stay on top of the goings-on.
One more question: The picture on Google Maps is of a place with “Brendan Behan Pub” written on it, is that the right place or is the picture outdated?
So now that I’m pretty well situated in college in MA, what days do you guys play FG’s, mainly, well only, Marvel?
I popped in on a slow day and everyone there mained Marvel or Street Fighter. Though to emphasize it was a slow day while the rest of the week apparently ramps up. They have a shit ton of games though so I wouldn’t be surprised if there was more diversity in the players too.
well, what days aren’t slow days? & do you guys carpool? I’m trying to go to the GU tourny, but don’t wanna take the long bus ride. I’ll chip in for gas no problem.
I think it’s only Tuesdays? I’ve only been there that one time so I don’t really know. Apparently Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday are really booming.
As for the other questions I really don’t know, sorry.
kof scene here is like mouse shit. small, hard and it aint goin nowhere
What’s kof?
Hey so I’m thinking of paying Brain Box a visit once I get back to Boston. I have a couple of questions:
-
Where exactly is the entrance? I was looking on Google Street View, and where 383 Centre St is, there is just some bicycle repair shop.
-
How is the surrounding area, safety wise?
-
Any tips for newcomers? I’m still learning when it comes to SSF4:AE, and I barely know how to play UMvC3, and I don’t know anybody and would probably be visiting Brain Box for the first time on my own. If I came on a Wednesday with my stick, how do I go about getting matches with other people? Do you just walk up to them, or is there some sort of system going on?
Sorry for all the questions, and thanks in advance for any replies!

That’s an old picture. Once you arrive the entrance is obvious. It’s right between a video store and a hair salon.
-
Centre St is safe and theres lots of bus routes close by, but if you’re walking to/from then take a friend.
-
Bringing your own stick is best and if you want to get in on a setup just ask if anyone has next. Unless its busy all the setups wont be used so usually you can get in long sets even if you dont wanna switch off
What he said ^^^^^^^^^^
Alright, so the people working there pair you up with other people to play? Or do people just walk up and start games randomly? Thanks for the answers!
Its not a matchmaking service, just a venue. If you want to play and there’s no open setups you gotta get in line. Otherwise if theres an open setup you can do whatever you want
I get that it’s not a matchmaking service, but I thought the whole point of these things was to get into rounds with other people at the venue that you might normally otherwise not meet? I’m just asking as to what the general etiquette is when it comes to getting into sets with other folks in the venue, like if you’re sitting on your own will people come down and start a casual set? Do they go FT5, or just a random amount of games? Stuff like that
yes
depends on the game
