New fighting game releases vs tournament game selection

I’d rather play a good game with a small scene, of course. I still play Alpha 3 and I don’t play BB even though I bought the damn thing. And, believe me, it annoys me that some of my favorite games don’t get much play because I also like playing a variety of good players who whoop my ass. What I’m getting at, though, is that if the market is healthy as it is now, that only raises the odds some publisher will put out a game that’s both good and has a large scene. And the more of those games we get the more everybody wins.

the ‘odds’ that someone puts out a game with a large scene is pretty dependent on whether they decide to spend a lot of money on marketing or not

also brand equity too

True, true. But the healthier the market is the more likely a publisher might make a big PR push. Yeah, some publishers seem absolutely allergic to trying to push their game. Sega, I’m looking at you. But I’m generally hopeful about the direction things are going.

also snk needs more (any at all) marketing as well

Yeah, SNK’s problem is that they refuse to take any active role in their game at all. They put out a few screenshots and videos and expect all the Street Fighter players to come over instead of actually trying to create new KOF fans. Or, hell, even dazzle the ones that already exist.

If by Street fighter X tekken then you’ve got a point.

I thought I’d bump this now that the EVO lineup got announced.

Tekken and Tapout.

Isn’t the lineup a little too preemptive? Marvel looks solid but MK9 could suck.

lol MK9.

And Blazblue. Seriously?

MK9 get hype! ( I’m surprised this one wasn’t obvious )

I wonder how the AH fans feel about losing to BBCS though.

We can still vote a game in, right? AH3 still has a chance

Smart ones wouldn’t read too much into it.
considering last years EVO and what happened to BB combined with the fact that AH needed to build a legitimate scene before being a serious EVO contender and the fact that the lineup was announced two weeks after AH3 was released.

Will this be the first year EVO does not have some form of SF2 ?

In favor of games that have not even been released yet ?

The lineup was announced three months PRIOR to MK… although I guess how hard NetherRealm has been trying to appeal and whore out to the competitive scene is pretty compelling.

Valid points though, BBCS’s inclusion still surprises me a bit.

Thought I was the only one wondering this.

I’ve been wondering the same thing. And while I have been looking forward to MK9, putting it on the bill this long before the game is released is seriously stupid.

its dumb as hell that theres no sf2

MTV doesn’t show music videos anymore and every time I see cartoon network there something else on there that isn’t a cartoon. At some point where the money is separates from what got you to that point and you have to make a decision. imo.
Which decision you make differs from person to person.
