Should we be taking the survey again or not, since I don’t want to be inflating your results
Nah, this is just a new mirror. The location question was slightly altered, but it’s no big deal.
Hey PieGuy, thanks for the info. Do you actually work at that arcade? Would you be able to PM me the sales data (i.e. how much money they actually bring in)? I’m curious to see if that income would justify their 10k + pricetags.
a few other ideas just throwing them out.
have you even though about catering to the smash community?
Maybe have a small lan center for PC games as well.
As far the arcade parts thing your doing. can you have someone who will actually repair arcade sticks for people kinda like a computer shop.
Bi-weekly tourneys are always a sure way for people to come.
Stay open late, late hours will always benefit everyone.
be close to bart or close to a bus stop. Though in SF there will be tons of buses going everywhere.
Isn’t there a bunch of places for lease near Century 20 in Daly City? There’s ton of free parking in the area and a bart station near by.
You mean that wall all along the side of the Century? I doubt they’d take kindly to an arcade place right next to them considering they want their own crappy little arcade to make money.
I’m interested, although, I believe it’s not a good time to open up a traditional arcade. Aside from the fighting game cabinets, I agree with what everyone else said about needing a second kind of business in the arcade and get some good machines that can make some income such as Puzzle Fighter, Stacker, Crane/Claw games (don’t get a billion of them like Metreon Tilt though!), Air Hockey, pinball, a cheap Pacman/Galaga cabinet, and music games like Beatmania or DDR. And if you do this in the bay area, you need something that is different from the Tilts and Golflands. Tilts are mall based which gets window shoppers in. Golflands have families who go for the waterslides and golfing and stop by in the arcade room for games and food. Maybe something like Denjin Arcade?
Best of luck, totoroslayer.
crack is whack

bronson
way to add nothing to the conversation…stupido.
I like the lan center idea. Although I am pretty positive that the lan center biz in sf would be some tough competition and the success of that kind of business relies heavily on location. Get a good location near a campus and you are set!
If you could find a big enough place, make this a destination for all things video games and add a membership fee to bring in some revenue + lan center + events + bday parties + major tournaments + arcade mod/selling. Bring the console community, arcade community and computer community together.
As far as alcohol goes, why not just do what bars do when they have all ages shows? Just have anyone who’s 21 and wants to drink get stamped at the door. The money that alcohol will bring in would make the cost of having some minimum wage biscuit at the front totally worth it.
bronson sucks

they can go fuck themselves then!
I’m not sure if this is a good idea or a bad one, coming from the smash community myself. I know that SFSU has a monthly tournament that draws in about 50 - 60 + people usually, but they’d have to have a reason to go there such as letting them host tournaments or sessions and bringing the good players. I know that if you’re willing to explore this route I can talk to my friend Falcomist, one of the top players in norcal and see what can happen about this but I’m unsure if it’d benefit you in the long run.
Get brawl+ into a cab and rename it into a new smash game and make the brawl community play a real game. Lol!
no north bay cities on survey?
Myung, good luck sorting out the business details. I don’t think I myself can be of much use in your business decisions, but I do remember seeing one place that was an actual arcade for a good while:
http://www.yelp.com/biz/bonkers-san-francisco
Look it up in google maps> street view to get a better sense of the building.
This place had a bunch of old school games/pinball machines. I think the dude who ran it kept it pretty ghetto, to be quite honest, but it was amazing at how long this place was kept open. I would imagine that the rent was cheap in his case.
From what I remember, as soon as you climb up the stairs, the place was a long hall filled with pinball machines on the left and some hacked together cabs on the right side. The pinball machines were probably the attraction that the owner sold the most. It’s in the financial district of San Francisco, two blocks away from the Montgomery Bart station. I imagine parking to be better during the late evenings.
Good luck with your business venture.
The east bay could use some better arcades…like around Hayward Oakland…Emeryville even San Leandro could use a good one
Down pat for Hayward and Oakland!:lovin:
ahaha its real talk tho…right here in Hayward we only got the one in Southland mall which really sux now…it used to be the shit like 4-5 yrs ago but now all they got is MvC 2 Hydro thunder n Tekken 5 not even Tekken 6…
Yup, I remember this place. Used to cut class back in middle school just to go play Saturday Night Slam Masters. That games was the shit.
One thing to keep in mind about this place tho, the neighborhood isn’t the nicest. I think one of the reasons it closed down was because there were too many fights because of the neighborhood and the type of people that went to hangout there (they’re not exactly your typical SRKers that supports the gaming community).\
P.S. lets say everything goes according to your plans, what is the time frame you look to get this thing rolling?
