hey srk, i just wanted you guys to know, for the first time in my life i am using adblock software BECAUSE OF YOUR SITE.
i’ve been here since my join date, and i’ve never minded the ads, but you guys are going way too far.
if you had less invasive ads, i’d live with it. but its just gone too far.

just deal with the invasive ones. the g star raw ads blocking everything is bad. sfxt ones are fine as its collapsable and doesn’t block anything.
I wouldn’t mind so much if there wasn’t those ads on the top of the page ripping through the background.
again… the whole site is considered a ad…
hope someone goes an check the scripts… hopefully a simple design flaw…
You know, I’m not going to complain about ads because I know the site needs money (which I will gladly give them after the fundraiser they had for me a year ago), but I will state that if a site wants to rely on ads, it needs to make them flow with the design of the page or it makes the site look cheap and poorly made. This is how SRK looks now.
Seriously, hire a web designer to clean up the design of the page. If we have one already, then he needs to redo it. Most of these current ads do not mesh well, even the SFxT ad that is relevant to the site. It’s large and ugly. Please don’t take this as an attack – this is an attempt to be constructive and benefit the site.
Here’s some ideas (from a front-end developer):

[]STOP working on the LIVE site. Work offline (use xampp or something) and then, after testing, update the live site.
[]I don’t know if the ads are your way to generate some income or what purpose they serve, but with a premium account being $20/year (?), you SHOULDN’T be hurting to pay for this web site. Servers don’t cost that much per year. You can get your own VPN/S for $300/year (sometimes less), and you don’t even need that to run this web site.
[*]Instead of using some ad company to generate random ads for your website, destroy the usability, and frustrate users; how about you charge a list of “sponsors” (like brokentier, madcatz, kineda, etc) X amount of money to advertise merchandise that is actually RELEVANT to the web site, instead of Rick Ross bling and cats singing in cars.

These are just off the top of my head … but there are more. I’m sure you can see that the general consensus is that this web site is getting out of control, and FAST. There are poor decisions being made by the development team; and most of the decisions don’t seem to be thought out very well.

besides the fact that adblocker blocks the whole forum, the other problems w/ functionality (posting and getting database error , navigating and getting database error) seems to be at an all time high for me. Might be the new things going on, I dunno.

sweet lets make this site even more of a joke by making it look like its being designed by gamestop. NO I DO NOT WANT A SUBSCRIPTION TO THE MONTHLY MAGAZINE!

This is the reason why I cancelled my premo status. It is literally useless at this point in time. I have no problem either seeing ads OR paying a premium (and would choose the latter, and have up until the option went away), but both? Fuck that. I like the site, but not that much.
Though it’s probably been mentioned already, my biggest problem with the ads is that they randomly overlap my alerts at the top, and if I can’t access them, then there’s no point in being on the forum.
The ads should no longer overlap the alerts/search/login area. This was fixed yesterday.
A tip for those browsing the forums. If you collapse the top ad, it’ll remain closed for the duration of your forum visit, taking up much less space. Wizard is also working on a premium version with no ads. Details should be available soon.
would be helpful if people mentioned what browser version they are using, IE is pretty shit imo, the difference between 7,8,9 can be big.
edit: IE7 doesn’t display the recent news and active threads properly. [S]All versions display the leaderboard ad (horizontal one) above the SRK logo so the website is shifted down. [/S] I realize that is intentional.
All of a sudden, the invasive, annoying and broken ads on the forum and broken adblock makes sense. Well done, sir, I salute you.
