I don’t think that’s ever going to happen again. That kind of level of animation takes a lot of effort to develop, far too much for something that’s not going to be accepted at large (3s was released in 1999 when the crowds were already starting to abandon 2D fighters, and now 8 years later hardly anyonewill even touch them). Sad, but that’s how it goes. This is why we can’t have nice things.
Riot.EXE, personally, I like the circle shadows better. The “actual” shadows are too distracting.
VERY true, as SNK stated themselves they dont make enough money to be dishing out new concepts , thus the major port re-releases.

You’re right with everything sans this.
EXE uses a new set of sprites, different from any other series.
X1-X3 shares sprites (X for example), but a new set of sprites were made for X4 through X6.
Rockman Zero’s sprites are a new set, not shared with anything but ZX.
Classic’s sprites were shared (again, only a few characters, like Megaman) until 6, then 7 had a new set, and 8 had a new set, not used in anything else.
=P
Well, actually, Zero and X had the same sprites in all three x games in the psx.
NO WAIT.
Zero has a new sprite in X6. that’s about it.
Zero series: Zero has the same sprite in every zero game. so does harpunia and the other diciples of Copy X. Oh, and, Copy X has the same sprite as well.
Megaman 1-6 all have the same sprite. And Megaman and forte and Megaman 8 also have the same sprites.

But that’s just being ridiculous. Of course the main characters in each of the games share the same sprites. What would be the point in redrawing their frames, when there’s nothing wrong with them in the first place? And this is a far cry from every stage, every enemy, every boss, and every item being new in every sequel to every game.
Let’s not be picky/crazy, here.
I think gameplay at this point is a bit more important then redrawn sprites.
Not with Capcom. Not at this point. Them using garbage like a 16-year old Morrigan sprite from 1991 is UNACCEPTABLE, no matter how good the game said shitty ancient sprite is in may be. After seeing 3S which is ten years old itself there’s no fucking excuse. There’s a distinct difference in “zomg dis game sux it don’t have gud graphics” and the sheer laziness Capcom’s pulled on some of their stuff.
If Capcom doesn’t give a fuck about putting in work on the sprites (like what was said about 3S above me) then don’t make a 2D fighter. Simple as that. We know they can make high-quality 3D, so if they don’t want to put their all into a 2D game then don’t do it.
Dark Stalkers/Vampire Savior 4
Actually I think people would prefer to have a fighter than not have one at all.
I’m not so sure about that; if we knew we were getting something on the same level as CFJ…exactly how many people would be at their local store pre-ordering it? Nobody? Really…? Oh.
I’m glad Capcom is making a new 2D fighter, but they NEED to give it their all.
In that case, the reused sprites in capcom fighting games (morrigan in CVS2) has nothing on the stages, new character sprites, menus and 3d projectile models then. Therefore every complaint about sprite recycling ever made in the past is moot. simply because sprites are often reused in totally new games. (I mean, really, Ryu in Alpha 1 is the same in MVC2)
IMO, Reusing sprites is reusing sprites. But I never see it as a big deal overall. but it’s kind of annoying sometimes. (again, morrigan)
Mvc2 had new sprites for the new characters, correct?
that question answers itself.
my point was as long as the hit box is the same for old cap characters does it really matter?
Well…I did say this:
If they reuse sprites, they reuse sprites. but, as said earlier, there’s just no excuse to anymore. I doubt they will anyway.
So, uhh…what concrete information do we have about the new game? From what I’ve been reading, it’s unnamed and it’s been three years since Capcom released an original 2D fighter. Is that all we’ve got at this point?
This is what I’m hoping for as well. I didn’t hate the SRPG :xeye:, but I’d reeeeally rather see a versus game for that crossover happen.
-I’m also open to the idea of a CFJ2. They can correct their mistakes from previous games. Trust me. I’ve seen them do it.
-Regardless, I want Lei Lei to be playable if either game comes out.
-As for SF4, I’m still under the impression that they’re waiting to see how SSF2T: HD is received before any new Street Fighter sees the light of day. I’m not holding my breath… I passed out the last time I tried that.
-I never played Sengoku Basara/Devil Kings so I don’t know what to make of a fighting game based on that series. shrugs
…'Looking forwarding to getting more information about this game. Hopefully it’ll be soon.
Two points for truth.
Honestly, if Sf4 is not in dev at all, it should be; now is the time to do it.
Last few years of Udon comics, rereleases of SF collections, online play, annoucing a new live-action movie, enhacing the visual look of ssf2t, announcing a new 2D fighter, getting mainstream gaming news and fans to notice the franchise again…
Tons of cheap, but effective marketing…
Now is the time…
