Netbooks and Sf4

Some (most?) netbooks do support Direct3D. My roommate’s brother has a netbook he uses to play WoW. It really depends on what graphics hardware is on the thing. More news on the Aspire One and SF4 later, since I just woke up.

Thanks for the answers but I believe this thread is going completely ot.

I was just asking about playing using a nettop/netbook with an atom cpu and a geforce 9400 (the classic netbook intel 945 doesnt even support pixel shader 3.0, then Sf4 wont work).

Therefore, in order to avoid assumptions and get an indisputable answer, the method is very simple: may any Sf4 player, who owns an Asus/Acer/whatever with the foretold technical features, just try the game benchmark and publish the results?

dunno, i kept on turning down settings until the benchmark gave me an A. I played with it on B with there would be random slowdowns during ultras and stuff. No other games give me issues.

lol besides what kind of mobile video card that shares memory with the rest of the machine you’ve given no “foretold technical features.”

But the answer is even if it runs it’s going to be unplayable.

see, I am hoping it wouldn’t…minimum specs are an ati x1600 (i dunno video card architecture that well), and was hoping I could just run it at a lower resolution, and say bye bye to the shitty ass backgrounds of SFIV.

I don’t really care how it looks (to an extent), I would just like to be able to fuck around with some SFIV at school between classes, or while I wait for my 360 to get fixed (hopefully by magic)

SF4 is very reliant on VRAM for some reason. And most laptops tend to have shared VRAM which bogs down the performance when you have a lot of particle effects on the screen. For example when you do Ryu’s ultras or really flashy moves like Viper’s mixups. So make sure you have a decent amount of VRAM on your card.

Just for reference, I’ve to put most settings on low/medium to run SF smoothly(60fps) on a 512MB 7900 Go.

GG, Laptops and Netbooks are two different categories.

I tried this on my Toshiba N205 (best netbook out right now) and it didn’t work, says my video card doesn’t support direct3d even though my card is supposed to support 3d, and the directx program tested for it and proved it was there. I could also play wow on it with 60fps to corroborate what was said before, however it only got to 60fps when it was in full screen mode.

HP dv2z is not exactly a netbook (thin and light 12")

but I think it will run SF4 and I’ll prob get it.

AMD Neo Dual Core with Radeon 3410 and discrete 512mb vram.

There’s something wrong with your setup then, because my brother has a similar gateway laptop (P8400, 9800GTS, 4GB, Vista x64) and runs it on all high, no AA @ 1920x1200 at 60FPS.

I got a DV2z ultraportable and can confirm that it will run SF4 @ 60FPS.

Resolution has to be 720 x 480.
Models: Medium

everything else set to low. It looks alright.

i got a radeon hd 3400 and i can barely play sf4 at 59.8 fps with all low settings. looks so ugly.

There has been a lot of recent releases of CULV netbooks and ION powered netbooks which may be able to handle SF4 a little bit better. Best thing to do is probably download the benchmark demo and try it. Maybe even walk into an electronics retail store such as Best Buy, verify if they have internet, then load up the benchmark before you purchase the unit.

The some CULV netbooks are dual core and some even have Core2Duo variant chips in there but may still be hampered by the integrated GFX card.

My question is for those who have attempted and tried: When you reduce the resolution, can you still run the game stretched full screen or do you get the black borders?

I also have the game on a desktop pc but would like to mess around with it in between classes to take a break and would prefer a netbook as I already have some heavier laptops. The backpack gets heavy when adding books and a heavy laptop to it but not as much when carrying a netbook.

Please post any more netbook results if possible.

What is “ST”?

You can run the game what whatever resolution you want and just override the aspect ratio and have it stretch to whatever your screen is. Like on my laptop I have it running at 1024x768 but i have it stretched to fit the 16:10 aspect ratio of my screen and everything looks normal.

ST is Street Fighter Super Turbo. He’s being sarcastic.
