I wouldn’t say HM is a side scroller. Going by the term side scroller though I would include some shmups but I don’t think that’s what BeGuiled is looking for, now I’m trying to figure out what BeGuiled is thinking. Somebody stop me.

Best side scroller of all time IMO is Shinobi 3DS easy, but judging by OP’s list it seems he wants PC suggestions. I’ll necro my own thread lol.
It’s a 2D fighting game/MOBA wouldn’t call it a side scroller.

I attempted stage 4 of Shinobi 3ds today in a hurry. SHit was fun. I failed but I plan to definitely tackle the game again. Shit is real challenging.
In terms of modern side scrollers. I’d say check out Guacamelee it’s on consoles and PC, and check out Aeterno Blade, and the Shantae series if you got a 3ds

Nobody knows that fucking game, it’s dirt-cheap and mainstream gaming review sites chose to ignore the title completely.
Aside from the at times bad translation, the game is a fucking badass beat 'em up.
