Need help wiring my ground, modding noob here

Google tells me detritus is a fancy word for dirt, so how would I go about cleaning it off without like… tearing shit up? So are you saying I should wire my stray black wire to the side of the golden E? And when I said it doesn’t work I meant nothing works at all, even on an Xbox.

^ By detritus, I meant little flecks of stray solder lying on some of the tracks which you could probably clean up by quickly running a clean soldering iron over them. You don’t normally need to be super neat, but it pays to be thorough.

Yes, I was suggesting soldering the stray wire to the E. If that does not work, then you know that the problem is definitely NOT that the wires aren’t properly grounded.

My dad has a volt meter so I’m going to run power through it just to make sure I’m getting power. I’ll put some more solder on the power line contacts to make sure it’s a good connection. Ill post results in a couple days.

Ah! If you have a voltmeter it will be much easier to find your faults (I didn’t want to just assume you had one before). Even better if it can do continuity testing, which is usually found on most multimeters but not all voltmeters.

I’m just curious as to where exactly this wire you’re soldering to the shielded ground point comes from?
Even from the etokki item description, it says that there’s 8 signal wires and 8 ground lines with the harness.

Having put together plenty of sticks using the Paewang board, there’s never been a need to solder anything there before.

So it does say it has 8 grounds. I just figured the 9th one was like a master ground or something, I have no idea. What else would you recommend using the colt meter for besides testing if the power is reaching everywhere it needs to?

Take a picture of the entire setup. Seeing as how you have an extra wire that we can’t really figure out where it comes from in your original pics, some updated pictures would help troubleshooting.

Yeah, this.

Ok, I tested everything with the voltmeter and everything was getting power when plugged into a PC. Everything read from 3.25 to 3.38 volts. When a button or switch was pressed, the power went down to 0, I’m assuming that’s normal. To me, there is no reason it shouldn’t work unless one of the chips is shorted somehow. If that’s the case do I need a new PCB or can I un-short it if I can find the short and fix it?

I’ll add pics to this post as soon as I get some.

If it’s the chip that is the problem, then you will need a new board. Everything else you described seems normal.

I just cleaned up the detritus stuff, most of it was just melted hot glue that looked ugly. I’m thinking it might be the chip because to put the stick into PS3/PC mode, you have to hold down the turbo button as you plug it in, and that isn’t happening. I haven’t been able to test it on an xbox yet. Either way, I don’t think that stray ground wire is a problem.

Still doesn’t work btw.

This site is going extremely slowly right now so I’ll post a link for the picture of my whole setup. http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-snc7/740659_312959352149459_848660380_o.jpg
I’ll test every single connection with the voltmeter because I didn’t do that. Other than that, is there any place I can buy JUST a new paewang PCB? Failing that, is there a place I can buy a dual modded PCB that has slots for start/select/back/turbo buttons? I don’t think the sanwa small buttons will work with my current plastic box though.

You can see the stray black wire wired to the ground on the main pcb.
