That MBAC tournament was GODLIKE…Serious…
I picked up Brandon and drove him to NEC and back, which added around 6 hours total to my drive. I just did it because he’s a nice guy and really wanted to go, and it’s my nature to do that; I honestly didn’t know he was capable of winning it all, and still feel so hype right now…
Hell, Melty was one of the hypest things at NEC, period. Why? Some real upsets, and niggas were BETTING IT.
This makes a great “fuck you” to all the online gaming haters as well. Why?
In case you don’t know, Brandon is almost purely a netplay warrior, never been to a major in his life. Heck, I think he’s only been to a couple small “tournaments” that were 100% free for him, and there are no other Melty Blood players in the Toledo area, so you can’t even say that he has plenty of live experience like MagMan.
And he will outright tell you that MBAC’s netplay isn’t that good. No Kaillera P2P, much less GGPO.
Even with that, he was able to win both teams and singles, against most of America’s elite. Sphyra is also an online player with no local scene, and he beat sp00ky and placed pretty well overall.
People better wake up and realize, you CAN get good online. You just have to figure out what’s lag tactics and what’s legit, and you need some time in live casuals to adjust. But it can be done!
This has inspired the hell out of me, because I’ve spent most of my life in an area with no local comp; the only time I could play people regularly was when I lived with Kenji in Columbus. I’ve gone to people’s houses and held stuff at my home, without success. And the scene is so much stronger now; you can’t beat people in Guilty Gear just from training mode practice anymore.
I already kinda figured out that netplay was the way to go, but Brandon just further convinced me that I was right. Thank you so much, Brandon, for one of the best weekends ever and for helping me figure things out!

Sorry I was kinda out of it…I think it was the chinese food haha. I just like laid there all comatose watching people play 3s and then I fell asleep on Vapulus 
I guess that’s what happens when you eat about half of your bodyweight in chinese food in no more than 10 minutes.

Josh: Actually, netplay back in MB ReAct was pretty bad. The new MBCaster code by Tropsy is really good- even I can parry consistently on it. It’s P2P just like Kaillera is, and I get maybe 2-frame delay games in SoCal. That’s like playing on an HDTV LCD screen in real life.
Online hating stemmed from bad coding and hilarious lag like Xbox 3rd Strike where you have anywhere from 15 to 30 frames of lag meaning Aegis Reflector and Denjin were GOD TIER. As technology improves though, better netplay helps the scene out immensely. Now if only more fools would travel to tourneys for HYPE
