NEC low tier rules

:u: goes to show that it doesn’t take exquisite designs to run matches.

  1. get launched by anak = character death (no bar given an operational assist)
  2. can’t catch sim? your whole team is fucked if you didn’t fill in some sort of aa (assist or character move) for that height
  3. strider can still run orbs
  4. akuma/ken catches you with an AC?
  5. colossus has meter for armor
    etc, etc, etc

i want to play =/ good chat guys. i’m hyped for a marvel session

i was wondering something though:

juggernaut/dhalsim/servbot = top low tier? i’ll post up why if noone sees it

yeah, anakaris can kill anyone with a launch and at several different assists which is why I said anak/sim…gief, juggs (powered up juggs assist really speeds things up), ruby heart (was just messin with ana/RH/sonson), psylocke, jin, rogue (ugh), marrow, bbhood (darkstalkers team?) prob more if you mess around.

anakaris, silsam, gief may be sick

any gief hit = curse or lightning…amingo/silsam/gief may take some names too lol

anak/sim/gief IS an exquisite design IMO. and yeah, anak should be R2 probably…

hmmm, i think i said that wrong. you’re right beats. anak curse set-ups are kinda exquisite with the need to pull them off flawlessly in order to seal the deal. i think what i meant is the strat behind winning teams doesn’t have to be exquisite? know what you want and make it as easy for yourself as possible to get it

Actually, that is one helluva good question:

What does your character want?

orrr…

What do you want for your character?

Yo ecz, picture this:

You’re Zangief on point and in the midst of a mid-screen battle. No specific opponent you’re facing: what do you want? how do you get it?

Risuno:

You’re Chun Li on point and in the midst of a mid-screen battle. No specific opponent you’re facing: what do you want? how do you get it?

Beats:

You’re Anakaris on point and in the midst of a mid-screen battle. No specific opponent you’re facing: what do you want? how do you get it?

For whom is it easier to launch the offense for? For whom is it harder to defend against? How do you strengthen one or the other via incorporation of 2 more characters? Sick

im still not sure what you mean, maybe exquisite isn’t the word?

I took exquisite as “good/great” and I think anak/dhalsim/gief is niiiice…

Ingeniously devised or thought out…I thought this in reference to team strat. In reference to execution though, your timing has to be exquisite/flawless.

curse infs are generally the easiest shit to do if you can get the hit, launch, fierce, curse…easy as that

The thing about chun is she is really dangerous up close, and is really hard to catch when she is running. The fact that I can play with the psy assist makes it really hard for an opponent to establish an offense. One psy counter hit can be really nasty if im in range to properly follow up. If not, then i still get my space back, and my opponent is still gonna have to work to get in.

“What i want” is really conditional to how the match is going. If im winning, then i want my opponent to run into stomps and psy calls all day. Its really hard to overcome her defensive strats with a limited cast. If im losing, I have a safe DHC, the ability to pin down with my horizontal control and mix up hi/low/throw, and the ability to do good damage off any connected offensive hit. The fact that chun gets out safe so easily means that pretty much no matter who my second character is, they have a good mixup game w/ chuns expansion. Psylocke is pretty easy to DHC in safely with a limited cast, and she has gross mixup potential already, with the added ability to relayer with an overhead assist.

Whats so great about chun is instead of doing spectacular in one situation, she does above average in nearly any situation with the right team chemistry.

Add in the fact that I can beat any opener with this limited cast, and have the option to go to snap, myriad of guard breaks, easy mode 70% and she is a real candidate for all around on point character.

The thing about Gief is that he owns real hard and will choke a bitch

Ris, jump stomp opener is banned you didn’t get that memo?

My Wolverine is magic and should be banned.

Hard for me to get into what Gief wants in this scenario because I don’t really know what his offense is w/o Tron. It’s there, but the emphasis shifts away from easy mode relayers into a focus on smart single layers into hi-lo-throws.

In other words normally I would work towards one cross-up situation, then make a guess and drop Tron, and relayer into a setup that lets me get a safe Upchuck attempt, or another cross-up.

Now I gotta get tricky with it. I think his game is now more based on corner/GB killer and mech-up. Doesn’t seem like many of the cast can mess with Iron Body.

Probably have to throw together something dumb that gets me UB/instant DHCs off of ambiguous lariats.

I haven’t practiced it as much lately, but I would prob try running some chun/psy shit too with this format

With this current list, VDO is gonna have a field day…

5x fierce too cheap :confused::confused:

no but really, i look forward to getting some matches in with VDO @FR!!

Chun vs. Rogue FTW. :woot:

There is no denying that his team is real low tier, he is just godlike with it.

what would happen if we banned infinites?

low tier marvel would be pretty cool if we could get around all the cheese.

as it is now, chun, anak can realllly fuck shit up once they touch you.

You know, it doesn’t even matter anymore to me. Marvel is one of, if not the, cheesiest, unbalanced games in existence. I honestly find it really hard to give a damn when people say they don’t think something is “fair”. This game is all about being unfair, cheap, and downright disrespectful to equality. We’ve got four characters and ridiculous assists everyone uses because they’re so overpowered, infinities, chip damage, etc. And no matter what people do with the low-tier rules, no matter how good their intentions, people will find ways to subvert/cheat the system and be cheap, just like if god-tier weren’t banned.

That’s why its pointless in making a “ratio” system or arguing over Sim, rather just concentrate on making low-tier tourneys revolve around the fact we get to see characters that are not really used or characters people actually want to play for fun. Face it, Marvel is cheap, stupid and 90% of people that play don’t want to play “fair”. And that’s because Marvel itself isn’t ever going to be fair, no matter what we do.

NOoooooooOoOoOOOOOOOOoooOoooOoOOOoOOooOoOOooOoOOOOOo

:lovin:

I see where you’re coming from.
But at what point does a 8-part Chun overhead string become an infinite if she gets that first hit.

It seems hard to implement a soft-ban in anything that would actually have adecided winner. Hard to fork over dollars when Player A wins “but he did fly-away Sim a few times” or Player B “who technically did infinites”.

Of course, this is all me just trying to let Gief juggle fools in corner, but that brings me to my next punto:

Every ratio list is going to be biased, a lot, for that same reason.

What would be easy(ish?) and fun??? Fuck with the Dizzy counter… ONE integer change and all of a sudden people fly out of any infinite in 10-20 hits. Game change.

In case anyone was wondering, the Dizzy counter works like this roughly:

There’s a trigger number that is located in a random range between 47-64 points. Each normal has a point value-- Light=3, Med.=1.5, Heavy=1, and I think each jumping attack is 1, though not 100% sure. If the conditions are met over a specific time frame an infinite breaks.

That’s why in order of quickest dizzy Wolvie LP > Mag tri-jump > Iron GUy

What I’m curious about (maybe Magnetro knows-- Pro Tip :] ) is whether Snap-back resets the counter.

:u: I didn’t know that. Cool.

Also, I didn’t know that Silver Sam couldn’t be thrown when he is crouching (so thnx for the benefit of the doubt shoultzula  )

It doesnt i believe unless the character who was snapped out is called as an assist. Other wise im not to sure what snap does, even if you reset the snap. I think it only gives you a couple of more hits.

Snap doesn’t reset the counter. The counter goes down as time passes while the character is in actual play and not being attacked.

In other words, if you ROM Sentinel for around 40 hits and then snap him out, then if he comes back in and you guard break him and ROM he will get freed. This is why it doesn’t make sense to reset at near dizzy and why if you ROM it’s usually best to reset around 20 (and not just the 50% + 50% = dead character rule) unless near corner because you can corner tempest and tempest doesn’t stun.

Also why Storm hails magic -> hail around 40 hits, cause each punch/kick normal has same value. Also IM infinite to PC at around 40.

edited out irrelevant

I said that I thought all jump hits were 1. This is all according to Joo’s data, so I doubt it’s incorrect. Standing normals are the only ones with a swing in points.

I’m gonna edit out the Wolvie > Mag > Iron Man relationship though bc its irrelevant.

Reason I was curious about Snap is bc Joo has a separate blurb about it at the end of the Dizzy segment of his System breakdown. I just thought it would be cool if there was a combo application to it as it might help certain lows slightly. It seems like that Snaps have 0 points in terms of dizzy but nothing too special.

Yea, I don’t remember jump ins exactly but I’m 100% when I played about ROM to around 40 hits then snap then when they come back in I gb start ROM only to have them dizzy out. Although since it’s something I am basing from memory I recommend you guys test all cases (here is 1 vs 2 player scenario):

  1. Character gets snapped out and then tags back in.
  2. Character gets snapped out and then DHC back in.
  3. Character gets snapped but remains onscreen because is the only character.
  4. Character self tag then tag back in.
  5. Character self tag then DHC back in.
  6. Character DHC out then you force him back in with snap.

Although this can be all pointless, I just think that aside from time you can’t decrease/reset stun.

So far the general rules are the same. Get the heavy attacks in early and try to make them air and two combos that add up too 100% = death.
