NC Thread LIV: No name for this one

yeah, but also, I don’t think we’ll have as many people this time. But still, I gonna need more setups. Oh, and I don’t care how long people stay. I’ll probably cap it around 4am if it goes on that long.

Pros
-Traveling gives you a chance to meet people who have the same interest (but that could go for anything I guess…)
-Spend less money on games (at least I do). Focusing on getting good at one game rather than playing random action games, shooters or whatever.
-You make the most out of your purchased game since you can always find new competition if you’re traveling
-You could say something like… hosting tournaments helps with leadership or something like that. lol.
-Arcana Heart
-Fighting games allow for creativity and strategy at a fast pace (unlike games like Age of Empires).
-Just like with anything else dealing with competition… Tournament hype / Crowd
-Can “test play” games at tournaments or gatherings if you’re thinking about buying/playing a certain fighting game

Cons
-The game you like the most might not always get played
-Time / Devotion it takes to become competitive (skill-wise)
-Gas Money
-Wear on your car and tires when traveling long distances
-Some places can be crowded and hot (which also could lead to unpleasant smells. D: )
-Stick / Stick parts are hard to come by at an in-person location (you have to order online)
-tournaments take up your entire day

Yo Rob I tried calling you to see if you’re going to Kris’s today cause I felt like getting some games in but apparently you left your phone at the athletics club and it’s at the front desk.

I’ve decided it.

I’m dropping everything for Skullgirls.

Oh gosh…

Edit : SRK double post…

Even though I just got off the phone with you, thanks for the heads up will. xD But yeah, I’ma be in Raleigh today and like most of next week. Hope you can get a ride with Cortland though, if he’s going…

Also, is anyone in the Raleigh area playing Arcana Heart 3 today?? I want some Arcana matches!!

Beer.

Really, the party atmosphere and being in a “scene” do it for me. The fact that we all love games gels us together.

yeah, it’s usually the shit that goes down after the actual tournaments that’s the most fun to me. Just going to random rooms and chillin with people from out of state. That’s where some of the best memories have been made.

We’ll definitely be gels this weekend Majors.

JIMMY. You better make FR.

I’m hyped. Thinking about changing my outlook slightly for the tournament; I still want to do well but less personal emphasis on that and more emphasis on hanging out with the people I like. Getting old I suppose… :stuck_out_tongue:

Holy shit - Q got Franked.

Old Man Roski…

Anyways FR should be awesome! I expect to see some peeps I’ve played online as well as old faces.

Had some peeps from Greensboro show up for some MvC3. And im still waiting on FedEx to deliver my phone. I may be awhile.

Hi, recently moved to Raleigh from Norfolk, VA. I heard NC plays everything, from Jimmel that is. So… yah, what’s up?

It says so on the site, but Larry says differently:

Another reason why FR is the best tournament of the year.

Also, I don’t care how you pay me, but for the Charlotte peeps who are sharing Darklight and ShadowAce’s rooms, you need to be prepared to pay your split to them in CASH at the hotel.

I don’t need the pros. Just the cons. What outsiders see. The cons posted were all good, but what about from the perspective of an outsider? I have my own, but as apart of the writing process it’s good to get ideas from my peers. What are some other ones?

Call assist, lock you into blockstun, teleport into mixups. He can go high/low/crossup from there.

70% isn’t really accurate, either. My midscreen combo reliably does 750k, most characters have between 850 and 950k health. So on most of the cast, it’s more like 80-90% health. Add in the fact that Dante’s combos build huge amounts of bar due to their length and a well-picked team with good DHCs results in most characters getting KOed if they get hit by Dante on the ground.

Don’t think of 1 million as being the median life, only 15 characters in the game have 1 million health or higher, that’s less than half the cast.

The other thing is that Dante is sooooooo safe, he’s actually incredibly hard to punish if played properly. Making him whiff generally isn’t good enough, he can cancel whiffed moves into Air Trick or Bold Move to stay safe. I run up with M-H string, you pushblock and my H whiffs, I just command jump and block whatever you do after that, or if you do something predictable, I can teleport and then get a free combo, which means that character is dead.

That being said, he certainly doesn’t have the best mixup, and what makes him strong is the sheer amount of space his normals control, so I can see the resemblance to Karas. Overall though, he’s a MUCH better character. Just too many options.

Not to drag out an old issue but the PS3 slowdown on MvC3 is very VERY real. I ran 35 matches with a friend of mine from GSO yesterday and on certain stages things slowed to the point where I was dropping combos. I was running Mag/Task/Chris/Cap and he was running Wesker/Dormammu/Task. The slowdown became especially apparent on Kattlelox Island and Shield Helicarrier. If I did a cartwheel crossup with Cap while calling Chris’ gun fire assist, it would slow down on the resulting combo. If I got a launch on two characters using Mag (I was usually catching his Dormammu/Wesker together) it would slow down as I did my super jump.

I dont want to hear a single thing about “system fanboy” or “tournament standard” or “false until proven true”. Yesterday was all I needed to confirm that I will be switching personally.

If this is because im still using my old PS3, then thats just too damn bad.

So I’m going to FR. Can I room with someone? Anyone want to ride with me or take my gas money?

Question. Who all is actually going to enter MvC3 at Final Round? Just curious how serious people are about it. This has absolutely nothing to do with me deciding whether to get it because I’m gonna get it regardless this Monday.
