To be fair, the Sent player just threw out the assist as soon as he possibly could. He didn’t even use Haggar to react to anything, he just threw it out, and he had insurance as soon as Amaterasu hit him for a combo.
The only reason the 2nd player threw out an assist was due to a hit confirm. And he couldn’t have seen Haggar coming because Haggar came in at the exact same time as Amaterasu’s assist (pause the video later during 0:29). So Amaterasu could have never reacted to Haggar. He did what he was supposed to do (successfully hit confirmed into his combo), and got interrupted for 2 full bars of health.
All that video showed me was why Sentinel will be top tier in this game, and that despite the fact Justin’s Ammy/Wolverine can beat down a Sentinel its far from easy to do.
The Ammy player was walking right up in the Sent player’s grill at the start of the match, with an invincible assist that would be hard to punish (especially with Ammy @ match start), it was a good bet to call Haggar, even if it was a bet as opposed to a sure call.
What makes it especially bad is that it had already happened once in the set and the Ammy player just went “herp derp let’s do this again”. Just seems like poor decision making in action.
Anyway, I’m registered for FR now, thanks again to Demo for the ride. Anybody got a hotel room I can crash in?
I can understand that dude messing up the first game and losing, but he does the same thing game 3, the exact same thing. He should have learned that it was an unsafe way to start the round.
Yes. A re-jump combo. It wouldn’t be completely impossible to see he’s going for that when he starts out with J.C (?I don’t know her normals) and call out drones for the extender. I’m also aware of assists not having AA properties except for a few, Haggar’s assist being one of them. I’m aware of exactly wtf happened and why it happened. Cut out the fluff and get to it he made a very wrong decision and paid for it with two characters. I’m not getting at him for fucking up. He deserved it. Both 1st and 3rd especially.
What I was getting at was Sent being able to wreck 2 characters with such ease and so quickly on what was ultimately off of something as simple as a trade. If something as simple as a basic BNB that was shown in the video was able to kill two characters off of one measly trade and all you can say is “LOL should’ve blocked Sent” and can’t say anything about the absurd damage output? Yeah, everyone does high damage, but not everyone can do Sent damage like Sent can…at least at this point and time of the game. Who knows?
I’m only commenting on what I saw in the video. I am in no way giving my opinion on this game so don’t even try and pull that. Unless I have to play this game to give a comment on what I saw and I only play one “flavor of the month game because everyone got hype for it” at a time and I’m already playing Arcana, sorry.
Actually…since you want to bring that up. Legit question. Why should I play MvC3? I was able to convince people and get people try and look into MBAA when it first came out by posting matches, asking questions they had with the game, why x and y work like they did, and breaking the game down. 100% serious here. I’m planning on dropping AH3 after FR anyways so who knows. I may actually pick this up and give it a shot.
Oh yeah reasons such as:
Because it’s the game with the most comp
It’s not a JP import / AAAAAAAAAAANIME
I am interested actually. Let me know what time you plan on starting and the address if possible over a pm. Isn’t Wolf’s village the place like going toward cary that has a huge tennis court in the middle?
He might have out thought himself honestly. I know whenever I play this game or played MvC2 I would try start out the match doing different stuff each round depending on what happened previously. Helps keeps the person you’re playing off balanced. He might have had something up his sleeve if he managed to get through Sent’s SA for all we know. Hell, he might have tried the same thing again thinking there’s no way that it’ll happen again. Who knows. Like I said before, this video really just showed me why Sentinel will be played until this game dies out in the future. No matter what counter characters or strategies come along he’s still gonna be able to deal the easiest and most powerful damage from landing a single blow.
With the understanding that I don’t know that much about MvC3, I have to say that I agree with Brandino that it looks like a harsh penalty for what amounts to one bad call. Sure, it requires X… but still.
I’m not actively trying to tear down the game, any more than I try to defend games that people happen not to like. I’m just trying to see if this thing is worth my time (and gas!). There’s nothing wrong with that. People did the same thing with MvC2. Many left; some stayed.
Out of all the stuff we’re seeing (and will continue to see), not all of it will be able to be explained away by “scrub” or “shoulda blocked”. You’ll notice people don’t try to defend Cable AHVB and just holler “scrub” if a point character dies to a metered Cable. It happens. You just have to decide for yourself if the hill is worth climbing.
Sentinel is retarded like everyone mentioned. His damage output is amazing!!! But I’m confident he isn’t the best (I’m not saying any of you said that he is). His weaknesses are just too glaring. Instant overheads are no joke in this game. He’ll be A tier atleast but I seriously am curious at who the real nutcase of MvC3 is…
while I don’t think he’ll be the best, for now, I do think he’ll end up being top tier. Right now, his assist and his damage output are too good to ignore.
I agree that damage output alone will probably make Sent a regular contender even as the game evolves. But man, for the guy who got hit by that, especially considering that he had Phoenix on his team, you’d think he’d be a little more careful.
You’re missing a big part of this. The fact that Haggar was there meant that calling the assist there was a horrible idea (attacking in the first place there was bad too, but not nearly as bad as calling the assist). The plan here was flawed from the start, as risk reward went from hitting sent for one meterless combo as the reward (since Phoenix was there, I’d assume he wouldn’t burn bar) to losing 2 characters as the risk; pretty bad odds. Dog owns Sent hard from afar, and Haggar loses life every time he’s called, and Dog is great at punishing assists safely from anywhere on the screen. He didn’t play by the rules, and lost 2 characters.
It’s not invincible though. It comes out at a good position to stuff shit, but it can be hit.
Is it a harsh penalty? Yeah. It totally is. That’s the way this game works. You fuck up, you might lose the round for it. You fucked up against Cable, the same thing happened, and people learned to deal with it, so much so that only Sanford was able to get away with picking Cable at all over the past couple of years. Pretty much every character can kill 2 characters using XF in that situation, many more efficiently than Sent can (Chun can do it for no meter, and build at least 2 bars in the process), so people need to be more careful with their assist calls at close range, cuz that shit might happen. It’s by no means exclusive to Sentinel, it’s just the easiest to do with Sentinel, so that’s what you’re seeing so much of right now.
Brandon, how many people did you actually convince to play MBAA that weren’t already interested in the game? I don’t give a flying fuck if you want to play MVC3. If you want to play it, that’s cool. If you don’t, that’s cool too. Part of me thinks you’d enjoy it, but the other part of me thinks the rage that it will induce in you will, as per usual, make for some very uncomfortable situations for whoever happens to be around you at the time, so it’s your call.
Well to be fair, the guy fucked up and got close to sentinel with haggar assist WHILE calling his own low health assist. What did he expect? It is dumb but really, if you just play defensively, it’s not like sentinel can easily break defense, especially with push block.
I never could get any info on that. Was it the one at Champs? If so I was gonna go out but like clockwork, I had to stay at work for absolutely no reason other than for Epic to throw away money because they heard I had plans lol
I’m going to posit that the real issue here isn’t about this specific video. People are understandably eager to point their finger at something and go: “HA, TOLD YOU IT WAS BROKEN”. This gives you a ‘good’ reason to not play the game and if you want to take it there, shit on the people that do. The only thing is… it’s not going to make people play your game of choice any time soon.
Now for the people who actually play Marvel, I’m going to also posit that: FFFFFF$*K SENTINEL BAN HIS DUMB@$$ Horrrry Shittttt!!!
Who are the most technical characters in MvC3 (speedy input-wise, not really timing-wise)? I still haven’t gotten a chance to play it.
Also, I really enjoy MBAA, but I can’t use a stick for the life of me and I’ve yet to get a PS2 controller with the analogue stick in the primary area of the controller… or an xbox controller that works on PS2.
Man, so is everyone dropping AH3 after Final Round? I wanted to really start learning the game AFTER Final Round. As always, my ways are ass-backwards. I only learn games AFTER everyone else stops playing/caring about them.
Good news, at least. Larry says the hotel TVs at Final Round WON’T be locked out and allow easy input for A/V. That’s one less thing to worry about this year. Julian, remind me to bring my RF converter…
I remember at Lucky’s (I think when OJ fought Remix) there were two Sentinels on screen and it started slowing down REAL bad. Instead of pushing for running future tournaments on 360, I’m going to continue to motion for just banning Sentinel.
While you definitely do that, I’d keep in mind that the American release is gonna be soon after FR, and people are gonna be more hype to learn a $30 anime game than a $90 anime game. I don’t know of anyone who’s gonna drop it at this point; I definitely won’t be.
