I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Cops should carry flamethrowers.
If they did, the head line would be “Hero cop tazes senile belligerent, local residents applaud restraint”
They really need to get on this mandatory on-officer cameras shit they’ve been testing out. And multiple cameras too so we don’t have to deal with bullshit “something got in the way of it” excuses.
Cameras lower the chance of altercations by a large amount, but they don’t lead to prosecution. We have that officer who killed Eric Garner on video doing an illegal move and not offering help to someone dying and he wasn’t even indicted. The problem isn’t the officers anymore, it’s the people on the jury who believe cops can do no wrong. Without changing their beliefs, cops will never be held accountable for their actions.
American society has this weird compulsion to glorify people who have a “hard” job. Whether it is a cop, a soldier, a firefighter or a football player, there is this notion that these people, because they have a job that puts them in some level of physical danger, that they can do no wrong. Because of that, society in general is willing to ignore a cops killing black guys, soldiers raping a sickening percentage of female cadets, firefighters drinking and/or doing recreational drugs on the job and football players beating up their wives in elevators.
When it comes to cops, the way to fix it is at the local level. Find out who your local police union endorses and vote in the opposite direction every single time. Police unions are major players in local elections, and stripping them of their power over politicians is where the pushback starts.
The U.S. military is just awful all around for sexual misconduct. GQ did a huge story a few months ago on rape that happens to both men and women in the armed services. It made me uncomfortable to read.
I would remember hearing whispers around the ship about this one or that one doing that one or this one. Nobody ever said any names, but if you watched the roster closely enough, you’d know who by who “Suddenly” left the ship and didn’t come back. It wasn’t something as rampant as people getting raped every week or something, but I really doubt that all of the rumors were only rumors. I can only imagine how bad it was on base.
Why the fuck are you reading anything from the Huff Post? The nations most biased and least reliable news source. The Huff Post is just lap dogs to the democratic party
(I don’t know whether to shake my head more at anyone thinking that CNN somehow is more Democratic-biased than MSNBC much less CNN being Fox News: Democratic Edition, the implication that any news outlet is without bias, acting like bias automatically makes something bad or what is reported untrue if you’re aware (despite the video presented), the stupid amount of political polarization in America or that the fact that you responded to a troll, ElderGOD.
In the first and last cases, I unfortunately can’t say you’re smarter than this either.)
As for this instance of police abuse, I can’t say I’m surprised for all of the reasons already expressed in here. It’s pretty clear that, even if there are probably more good cops out there than not, there’s way too many cops and people in other positions of authority–coughjudgescoughCongresscough–who only signed up for the job because of the power it grants, which they then readily abuse since accountability is anathema to America.
Speaking of which, nothing’s going to happen to this cop either most likely beyond a typical period of paid administrative leave until this just blows over due to the people’s naturally short attention span. Huzzah.
If we’re trying to futilely squeeze optimism out of this story, then at least the old man survived I guess. Too bad any lawsuit would probably get stonewalled until he just died of natural causes or gave up or wasted more money than he could afford to spend. [/justice]
I have never trolled in my life. I did not expect such libel from a mod. How can I sleep in peace after such defamation?
You guys are so godlike at pissing people off.
What if all the cops you see doing bad things on the news actually post on SRK? What if you guys hurt their feelings so they wake up one morning, look in the mirror, and say “looks like a fine day to stun an old man.”
Anyways, you would think that by now people would learn not to resist arrest and to put their hands in the air slowly.
