Nash General Thread: Charlie (Nash) finally revealed!

So decided to play the new Nash and honestly the nerfs are almost unbearable. The nerfs are too damn hard. i mean I can understand nerfing his dash speed but his dash distance fucked him over in both defense and offense because it’s really his only source of movement. It’s irritating that he’s getting all sorts of stealth nerfs too. His buffs are just there to say he got something and don’t really add anything to his game plan. How the hell am I supposed to capitalize on more up-close plus normals when I can’t even shimmy that well because of my ass walkspeed? If they were gonna nerf his dash why the hell didn’t they buff his walk speed to compensate. Why the hell did they make st.mp combo to TA, that was the most unnecessary buff of all time lmao. Why the hell did they make his v-reversal punishable, That defeats the whole purpose of a FUCKING V-REVERSAL! This shit makes me so pissed because I thought Capcom would largely leave Nash alone but it’s like they nerfed the character specifically to punish infiltration. I hate capcom…I’m glad I switched mains to Juri but this shit still hurts my soul.

You guys still have it leagues better than everyone in the Bison thread.

Random question: How the FUCK do I deal with Guile in this matchup?

Can you explain how you got to that conclusion? I don’t think nash is complete trash just…trash adjacent.

How’s everyone going with S2 Nash so far? I am struggling tbh. I never relied on dash shenanigans or anything so it’s not that, it’s just the total lack of defensive options. I feel I have to work so hard and never make a mistake otherwise it’s game over. I’ve been playing Nash since the betas and have never really picked up a secondary. I have so much fun playing him and it’s just disheartening to play him in a lot of the matchups now. I’m trying to adapt as best I can but I just wanted to have a bit of a rant and see how the rest of you Nash players are going, and whether you’ve moved on?

Maybe Capcom will realise his nerfs were a little over the top this season and give him a fully invincible EX SS for season 3 to make up for it! Haha.

I’ve stuck with Nash since the betas too, although I’m still gonna play him, the nerfs make life hard. But what can you expect in a game like SFV?

I can see why people dropped him though, we just didn’t get enough to make up for the nerfs.

Even if you do stay with Nash, you should probably just pick up a couple of secondaries anyway. I’ve learned that being a character loyalist usually ends up being a bad idea in the long run, especially with how SFIV and V have gone down in terms of balance changes.

I think this hit it on the head. There are times I feel lost playing nash now. For example I’ll land an air throw and I cant do anything now. Before I’d be able to pressure and test the water with f+hk. Now I can’t do anything its like I gave away my chance to do more by landing the throw. That’s how I feel with quite a few of his tools/gameplay now I either don’t get much or I’m stuck in a bad position. He’s not as bad as sf4 rose though and I stuck with her until nash(I hope she makes s3 though).

I don’t need ex.scythe to be full invincibility though just give back season 1’s. Adding Invincibility would mean you get CC. S1 didn’t have it and held up pretty good imo.

Edit: This also why i ask ppl how they use some of his new stuff liked the buff on ex.boom or even old things just to see if there are different ways of using moves that i might not have myself.

b.MK to EX boom-break is a solid string to follow up a blocked trap (like cr.HP, b.MK), but it costs a bar and leaves you only +1. Nash having 4f lights means his pressure afterwards is mixed on a big chunk of the cast. He shares this problem with moonsaults, which are already easily stuffed.

It’s weird. I considered Nash extremely solid, but already an underdeveloped character mechanically in season 1 from an idea perspective. I spitballed several ways his moveset could be adjusted, and it’s disappointing capcom didn’t do much of anything beyond jerk the knee and nerf the poor guy.

So the change list for the upcoming patch is out, and Nash is going to receive a few buffs.

What does everyone think?

Im surprised they didn’t fix nash’s janky bullet combination. What is the point of having a new target combo if it whiffs 50 percent of the time if you are a little away from point blank?

He’s still ass.

S2.1 Nash is just slightly less stinking trash.

Lets hope for stealth BUFFS like he got stealth NERFS in S2(like the hitbox on all frames of cr.mp)

His 2 decent matchups will get harder.
Zangief with the counter buff and Ryu with better normals.

He MIGHT still beat Ryu.

just finished playing the new beta with the supposed S2.5 changes. i don’t know if some things were placebo or what. first match was really laggy but the rest were much better. not sure exactly what it is but it ‘feels’ like there is more input delay when shit is rolling back (just a guess).

Nash feels mostly the same. cr mp feels a lot better and cr hp was actually working as an anti-air. again, maybe it was just luck so could be a placebo effect. he felt a little better overall but i’m wondering if that’s due to nerfs to other cast members like Boxer. st hp seems to have less active frames (?) because i couldn’t meaty with it. i can’t tell if the changes made it any better because it wasn’t much use so far.

there’s no training mode in the beta so i couldn’t test some of these things out to know for sure.

nah man, cr.mp is still crappy stealth nerfed s2 version.

Played beta. Mk scythe buff is nice at least. But the new dash broke alot of my Mk scythe oki, ironically.

yea his oki will be all messed with that new dash, I am curious, what did it break for you?

So Bonchan gets top 8 at NCR. Man with his play, maybe I’m doubting how bad Nash is…

If you count the mistakes during most of those top matches:

Others got 2 or 3 per round at times.

IF Bonchan made 1 he usually lost the round.

He was playing close to perfect while others were able to make mistakes here and there.

That is true though. Upon getting grabbed out of a throw bait far too many times (because of walkspeed) people holding downback and not fearing pressure(cause of walkspeed and no good damage of overhead), I think I’m done with Nash for now. GGS for the rest who plays him. I hope you guys show everyone his potential.
(EDIT: You know what I’m feeling good about the patch coming up what the hey I’ll stick with this character. They always say to adapt right?)

Currently trying necalli waiting for 2.1 but feels weird.
What other character would you consider similar? Guile?

What I like about Nash is the range of his normals and the fact that he can somehow zone in this game. Any recs based on that? (no Sim, plz).

Guile, Akuma, or Chun(better normals and ex bird invincible)
