Thank SFIV and speculative threads for the crazy stick market this year.
I’d wager a lot of those sticks were selling at least 33%-40% lower this time last year than they are now.
I know people were saying the HRAP 2 SA’s (the full-up, full Sanwa HRAP 2’s) used to be had for $120 or less… At least one person claimed to have bought one for under $100. Now, there’s no place you can get one of those sticks for under $199!
But yeah, for the SF II 10th Anniversary stick and the Namco sticks the prices are ridiculous. These sticks aren’t even compatible with current gen systems withtout adapters or PCB replacement!
The speculator market is crazy with what they think most people will pay for these sticks. No way I’d pay for $50-$60 for a PS2, let alone a PS1-generation stick, without arcade parts…
it’s hard to say, unlike the newer hori licensed sticks, i find it to be a little stiffer than a jlf, definitely more like the seimitsus than jlf for stiffness
I love my old Sega systems but it doesn’t mean I’m going to pay $70-$120 for a 10-15 year-old Sega stick, either!
It makes more sense to me to mod superior joystick hardware to make it backwardly compatible than invest in older sticks that I know aren’t as good. Those sticks were nowhere near as good as the Hori or Mad Catz pro sticks. Uh-uh!
I’m waiting on another UPCB project to get finalized… probably won’t be ready before first quarter next year. The developer of that project is working on including Sega Saturn compatibility in addition to all the PS’s, XBox, GameCube, etc.
Nobody’s putting DC support or XBox 360 into UPCB’s because of security chips (360) and ‘weird’ circuitry. However, DC is supposed to be fine with most Saturn=>DC adapters and 360 support is still stuck with soldered PCB’s/Frankensteined MC Cthulus. No way of getting around that has proven reliable yet.
No, you came into a thread where the topic is about a PS1 stick, then suggest to someone they not waste their time on older sticks and instead get one for a current console and make it backwards compatible.
Just because you can’t fathom why someone would be willing to pay a premium for an older stick doesn’t mean everyone else has the same opinion.
Premium doesn’t mean jack about acting like an asshole. I’d respond the same way if I didn’t pay for it; whether you’re premium or not.
And how are these older sticks not as good? You can get Namco sticks that are 12 years old and work perfectly fine and some people are getting MadCatz TE sticks that shit the bed after a few months. You don’t even need to modify them because they are that damn good and you just need to get whatever converter in order to play them on DC, 360, PS3, Wii, etc.
If i’m going to shell out $70 bucks I would much rather have a Namco stick>>>Madcatz SE or Hori EX2, FS3, or Wii stick.
Also, can we rename this thread to the “PSX Namco Stick Appreciation Thread”?
I bought a Namco stick from the neo-geo.com forums not too long ago. Its all stock and even came with the box, although the box looks like its about 3000 years old or something. It seems like it might fall apart any time I touch it.
Anyway, the stock buttons are pretty nice but I have to say I’m not that impressed with the stick itself. It just doesn’t seem responsive enough to me after being used to a Sanwa stick. Is it possible there is something wrong with my stick?
Are the microswitches not clicking when you move the joystick in certain directions? Or does the stick feel too loose?
Help us help you, ‘doesn’t seem responsive enough’ is a very vague complaint. Depending on what it is, it could be a weak spring, faulty microswitch, or simply needs lubrication.
just bought 3 namco stciks for 60. they feel pretty damn good so I’ve decided not to mod any but, I will sell one for 45 if anyones interested (if your willing to pay for the p&p from england).
I bought my Namco stick a couple years back off of a fellow SRKer - it was pretty used, with a few scratches but it played perfectly. I’d basically been playing on pretty crappy stuff up till then (stock T5 Hori, for example) and was stoked to finally get my hands on something that actually felt like playing on an arcade cab.
I’ve since expanded my stick collection a lot (with customs, modded sticks, and a TE) and used all sorts of parts, but whatever quality stuff Hori stuffed into that little Namco stick are just as good as what Sanwa and Seimitsu are putting out now.
The only thing I don’t like about it sometimes is the light weight - but then I’ll appreciate the low profile of it and how easy it is to transport.
Sure, it doesn’t have the bells and whistles (like turbo, lol…) of newer sticks and I’ve gotta deal with the hassle of converters, but a stock Namco plays just as well as the high-end sticks rocking Sanwa or Seimitsu parts (and depending on personal preference, you may even like it better). For a budget stick (compare to today’s likes of the EX2, HFS, and SE… it’s no competition), that’s insane.
