Seen that yesterday. I could see the auction ending at an upwards of $100+ on this.

Alright who calls dibs on that one so we dont artificially inflate the price

I bid on it, I hope I get it. I’m not a huge stick collector like everyone else in here, I just want one (mayyyyyyybe two lol).

I have a Namco stick. I got it as a hand-me-down from my cousin. It has dust and rust here and there, but it still works (aside from lk sticking occasionally.) I already did a little grungy painting to it, but I’m starting to dislike it. I’m looking to do a complete overhaul mod of this stick. Basically, I’m going to hollow out the case and remove all of the old parts, and then…

  1. Alter the case, if possible.
  2. Paint the case.
  3. Add new buttons.
  4. Add new stick.
  5. Rewire entire stick with Cthulhu Board.
  6. Close it up and add rubber feet to it.

Okay, now, for the help I need from you, the community…

Note: I don’t have soldering equipment and I wouldn’t trust myself with it, anyway, so I’m trying to make this mod completely solder-free. The only thing I’ve modded was an SE stick with Sanwa parts.

  1. How do I make this case taller, if possible? I want to be able to fit (preferably) an LS-32 or (unpreferably) a JLF in without any problems, and I think both of them are too tall for the stick. What are some good, simple options to make it taller?
  2. Should I use two seperate types of paint and clear coat for the case and the faceplate/underplate? If so, what kinds should I be using?
  3. I want to use Seimitsu PS-14-KNs. Are they too tall? Will they fit into the stick, or will I need to dremel?
  4. My concerns with the stick were already addressed.
  5. How should I go about mounting the Cthulu board inside the stick? What kind of wire should I be using to connect the buttons to the cthulhu board? How many quick disconnects should I plan on having?
  6. The rubber feet on this thing have lost nearly all tread. It moves around a lot when playing. What would be the best (resonably priced) rubber feet to buy? I’m hoping to get them at least half an inch to raise the stick up a little more.

I’d really like to make this stick full Seimitsu with no problems, as I already have a Sanwa stick (and another one coming on Christmas) and I would like to experience Seimitsu and have it around. If it’s not possible, I can settle.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. There’s no huge rush, however, as I’m not likely to do this mod until after Christmas.

First of all, the stock buttons are soldered to the PCB - so you will need to desolder them unless you just bust the PCB to hell (please, don’t do that).

  1. An LS-32 will not fit into the stick without heavy modification and you fabricate your own extended bottom panel.
  2. Seimitsu buttons will fit just fine.
  3. A JLF will fit, with slight modification and using the stock Namco’s joystick shaft and actuator.
  4. Since you’re taking the entire thing apart to paint, you could mount the Cthulhu with nylon spacers with small screws and bolts. Quick disconnects: 12 for the buttons, 8 for the joystick, if you dont’ use a wiring harness.
  5. You could drill into the bottom metal plate and bolt-mount taller rubber feet. Check your local hardware store, or ask one of the custom stick builders what they use.

I’m not a painter, so I can’t help you in that area.

Damn, you’re right. I forgot about the buttons being soldered into the PCB. Damn… that just breaks my spirit. Haha. I suppose I could just sell the thing (I mainly just want a Seimitsu stick without much trouble,) but I doubt anyone would actually want to buy it. It’s got about ten years of wear (it was in an attic the whole time,) a button that sticks from time to time (not enough to be a complete hindrance,) and a silly paint job I did out of boredom. It would come with a complementary Playstation to USB adapter, though.

Post it on the trading outlet, you can get some money off of it. It’s still a good slim case to use for modding.

So I came along another one of these from a friend of mine and there is slight rusting on the joystick shaft. What kind of solution could I use to get rid of it and which is a better scotchbrite or steel wool?

Yay I won that eBay auction for the Namco, paid $81 after shipping.
Pics to be posted upon receiving item

$81 not too bad, congrats

I was hella lucky because I was literally the only bidder

woot for Tiggy. Because now I get to check one of these out.

grats! I was watching that auction. Luckily I got another namco stick with box on srk so I didn’t have to bid on it. Will post pics soon.

I’m sending my Namco off to a modder to make it 360 compatible.

Can’t wait for it back

anyone around whose modded a namco and have the stock parts left over?

I have 6 buttons and a joystick.
