My Thoughts on Evo 2012

That’s a personal problem, not an Evo problem.

LOL aka Evo’s backlash. Never fails.

Oh, I posted my opinion on SRK.

For my next trick, watch me fuck a beehive after violently shaking it.

the whole atmosphere towards the end was like “was that it?”, it was nothing like last year. :frowning: The funniest bit though was the really awkward bit after cj truth accepted that award

Just because a person didn’t make it to the top doesn’t mean they’re bad or it’s a bad matchup. This game has been out for many years people know the matchups and still play it.
My favorite was Ricky, he got eliminated. So because my favorite lost AE needs to be a team tournament now. NO

You’re complaining about a tournament that you did not run nor fund directly. Stop acting like it’s something your owed.
If you want to have team tournaments, there are plenty of threads teaching how you can run a tournament.
1 tournament started the 3/5 rule set for marvel and it changed it the scene.
You can do the same. .

Exactly… While I agree with the OP that there are bad m/u… ie that Sagat/Zangief is 7/3 (at least)… but part of the reason Infiltration won is his ability to use multiple characters at a high level. You may over come a bad m/u with skill alone but eventually you will face someone close to your skill level and the reality is having another option is almost a requirement. Infiltration proves you can learn multiple characters at tournament level without watering down your main.

Im not saying counterpick so that you are using the ‘7’ … but just to avoid being on the short end of a bad m/u.

PS… I do think (MHO) the future of FG is games like marvel and sfxt (the reasons SFxT sux has nothing to do with the 2v2 format) As balanced as AE is, its impossible to 100% balance it. 2v2 games force ppl to learn multiple characters. You see how willing ppl were to switch out characters in their team in final 8 of KOF and Mahvel?

It’s not that my favorite got eliminated.

It’s that I would prefer more/better match ups towards the end.

I don’t think that the team tournament format would work the way I expect it would at Evo. The sheer size and talent of the number of players has grown year to year. It feels like singles doesn’t show off the caliber of player anymore. That anyone in the top 16 could have gotten first and people would believe it.

Also team tournaments are run on the side at majors, so your point makes no sense.

But you wanted to see better matchups correct?
It does make sense. Run a tournament that headlines the team tournament rather than a side-tourney and work for the desired results.
Also, the caliber of a player is not shown when a player wins a supposedly bad matchup?
I think it shows what kind of a player is when they beat their worst matchup.

My point is that a tournament as large as Evo, which draws more international competitors than any other tournament, in my opinion should have a team tournament for AE.

Headlining a team tournament at any other major and you’ll get the same guys who will get top 8 in a singles tournament.

There were so many good players at evo that we didn’t get to see perform I feel like I missed half of the tournament.

I guess to meet in the middle is just to attend and watch the players you want.

My thought of this EVO… Best One I have seen yet. Wish I went to this one but the july 4th weekend killed any thought of me trying to go.
I wish EVO last year was as hype or as long as this years. I remember everything being done each day around 10 or 11… WEAK lol. This year things were still going strong in the early morning 2AM/3AM… The top 8s were impressive and intense. No idea if the stream enhances that or not cause i wasnt there in person this year to compare lol. All in All my best EVO viewing ever

Team Tournaments make it harder for unknowns to do well

They’d need to know some top players and get on their teams before hand.

Even then, they’d just get accused of being carried.

Singles is best.

sbo is team based because it use a single elimination format

you sound like you care more about this as a spectator than a player and thus you should fuck off

if you really want to identify the cause of the weird results for sf4, look at the near-total absence of asian road to evo tournaments

This was my first year watching EVO and i have to say it was awesome. If my state held tournys i would play these games competitively

Only because #1 it followed the much flashier UMvC3 and #2 Since There was over a day gap before they could finish AE and AE was so late, half the players looked asleep.

In all honesty team matches take fucking ages.

it takes long enough for people to get to the match on singles. Imagine having to wait for 2-3 guys per team to show up. They may cut you if your a “nobody” but they make people wait for heavy hitter names. Its just a big hassle for added flair thats not needed. Id rather watch singles over teams any day. They do teams at events and its boring and long
