I grew up on american cabs and i cant stand the american layout. i always used my thumb for lk and i would get finger cramps when playing a few matches. When i use a japanese layout I can play for hours on end without problems.
I never really played SNK games seriously. In my local arcade they hardly ever changed the games in the Neo-Geo cabinet. For a long time I was only into computer games, so I missed the fighting game boom of the early 90’s. I didn’t get back into the arcades until about 95. Consequently, I’m more into 3D fighters, like Tekken and VF than 2D games, though I am looking forward to Street Fighter IV.
actually, the bottom four make up the Guilty Gear layout

Good try though.
Truth, and seconded here. Further, every arcade machine around here uses either Ultimate buttons, or Concave Buttons w/ Horizontal Microswitch. I have not ONCE seen a Competition button used in this area, except in custom arcade sticks.
Because that’s what I grew up playing on, it’s what I’m used to, and prefer, if given the choice.
Another thing to be careful of is not let a bad first impression of something new sour you on it. I’d purchased a used XArcade, knowing they weren’t exactly well-loved, but not knowing how bad it sucked. Since it was the only stick I’d used that I knew had a Competition in it, when my ability to execute was impeded horribly, I placed it as the culprit. Wasn’t until after I gutted the thing and put the Competition into my SFAC that I found it wasn’t half bad.
I don’t press the Dust button that often either.
