MWC/SBO Results

Good job to you and your team Gootecks. Much respect.

btw thanks for the updates.

I understand what you are saying, but I also have to disagree. If I had the money to go to Japan, I would have gone already. However, without having to charge credit cards up the ass (which is a bad idea), it has simply been a matter of funds for me. Keep in mind I actually have a good job, I just have to put money to more important things than dropping $3000 to go to Japan. Considering that the economy is ass and it is becoming increasingly hard to get and hold a decent job, and then factor in rising gas costs, and you’ll understand why the US is depending on events like the SBO qualifiers in order to be able to represent our country.

Is it fair to expect that tickets will be paid 100%? No, absolutely not. But the whole air of uncertainty as to what will and will not be paid for is also not fair to the players. How can you commit to going to Japan when you have no idea whatsoever what the actual cost of the trip will be? You can’t, it’s a recipe for disaster. If we limited the qualifiers to people who could say with 100% certainty that they could spend $3000 out of their pocket to go to SBO, there wouldn’t be an event; it would be one team for every game. That’s the reality of the Street Fighter community.

thanks!! and np

It’s true, committing to a trip like this without knowing the costs is tough and that was why I was on the fence about it before I decided to come. I had and still have no idea how I’m going to cover most of the trip, but I decided that this was the last year that SBO was going to have 3s like this and decided that in order to go, I was going to have to do a combination of making more money between now and then, spending less on other things and putting some of it on credit cards, which is a bad idea of course.

I figured that this was something that I always wanted to do and while of course it’s not the most financially responsible thing to do, decided to do it anyway because even though $3,000 is a lot of money, it’s still only money compared to the time and effort I’ve spent playing 3s over the past 6-7 years. Plus the way I see it, you can always make more money, but you can never ever go to SBO '08 again. I guehatss what I’m trying to say is that it’s a tough situation financially, but the experience of qualifying to go means a lot to me and is priceless.

What games did the Mystery Tournament consist of?

-DJ-

That was Jose (aka Frodo, aka mopreme jr =) from Austin, TX/Puerto Rico.

Yeah, we all nicknamed that guy “Brick Ryu” because he was uber solid, never took any risks. He had an uncanny knack for making everyone eat hurricane kicks at will.

Oh, and mystery tournament was:

Upside Down alpha 2, Upside Down ST, ST 4 players with people using controllers to screw up the other players at the same time, King of the Monsters 2, Weaponlord, Fast and the Furious Bike Racing, Some weird racing redemption game that DSP lost on to Sabin with trackballs, Eternal Champions, TMNT TOurney Fighters.

Go Justin Wong kill EVERYONE in EVERY game
