First I miss my flight this morning by 3 minutes (nothing is worst than seeing your plane taxi on the runway without you) then when by luck I get to Chicago on standby mess — I arrive and I miss two Metra trains towards Northbrook (). So I’m at my old home I’ll either see you guys later tonight or def SAT and SUN.
Khal we can still play for hot dogs (don’t worry if I win we’ll limit it to just 6)
Wow, neither of those statements were true. Not only did the CVS2 have screwy 1p buttons, but there was only one cabinet. Now, before someone starts about how no one was playing in the tournament and blah blah blah, that’s not the point. The few of us who still enjoy Cvs2 deserve the same quality of play as the people who play more popular games. I don’t really care that there was only one cabinet, but while I was playing, I went to throw a roundhouse and a fierce came out. I said “What the fuck?” kind of under my breath, then I looked down to make sure I pressed the right button. I hit roundhouse again, and another fierce came out. I come to find out after the fact that it happened to someone else during casual play. This just makes me want to play on the console more, because if my stick breaks, it’s my own fault/problem. Ok, I’m ready for the flame . . .
I didn’t say anything because it didnt’ effect the outcome of my match, and I didn’t want to sound like a whiny bitch. I also didn’t want the tournament to get cancelled because I complained. I was just mad in general, because I couldn’t execute on the cabinet at all, even after hours of practice. The button thing was just icing on the cake. That CvS2 is the closest, most functional one to me, and it’s 50+ miles away. Oh, and it’s still usually only half functional! Long live the console . . .
yeah, uh, there was only one cabinet of 3S for casuals, 2 for the tourney. that kinda sucked waiting 10+ minutes to play one match.
also, on one of the cabs, you couldn’t hold a crouch block some of the times. the game wouldn’t register you holding down/back, and would even stop blocking in the middle of combos.
i saw numerous times people blocking chun’s super, only to get hit with the last 4 hits randomly, just cuz the sticks were ghetto.
My sentiments exactly! I find their name very ironic. I’ll take my Competition over a 360 any day. And about the 3rd Strike cab not registering down back: was that on the 1p or 2p stick? I was there about a month and a half ago and had the same problem when pressing down back on the 1pstick/1p side-of-screen. Nickels is the only arcade close to me with good fighting games( I live in Lansing), and yet every time I make plans to go, I’m disappointed w/ the broke-ass games. I went up there once soley to practice CVS2 on their arcade cab, only to have the day ruined because the 1p stick was completely dead. Of course, it was CVS2, and this is Chicago, so no one played it to even notice. One of the staff members there just walked up, jiggled it, saw it was dead, and said “You’re right, it doesn’t work at all.” That’s it. grRRR! At least both sides of the CVS2 cab at Ford City Mall are equally broken! Makes for a fair fight! (This ended up turning into a rant that really has nothing to do w/ MWC. I won’t be offended if it get’s moved/deleted).
honestly, to me, cvs2 was fine. but we werent sure about fierce until it was too late. didnt no one say shit. so dont blame us. when we learned that fierce was fucked, we immediately replaced it. why the eff would we cancel? cmon now.
and the sticks on 3s were fine to me, thats just the nature of 360s. 360s are the worst sticks ever made. and the fact that happs has many different revisions of the stick that make it more akward since none of the revisions are similar. people just need to learn to adjust to different sticks…
I’m not blaming you, unless you’re an employee at nickel city. They’re the ones responsible for the upkeep of the games, or lack thereof I should say. Plus this was my first tournament. I wasn’t aware that you guys carry around spare switches and buttons and the like, otherwise I would have said something. The guy w/ the ponytail was very off-putting though, and I figured if I told him about the issue, he’d of just said “Who cares? It’s just CVS2, the worst game ever.”
that is DreamTR. he was running the whole show. i was helping. Why would we not fix it? That would be very fucked up of someone to not wanna fix something that is obviously not working in a tourney. we may despise cvs2, but we arent gonna fuck over the players. cmon now. we had to touch up basically every cabinet for the tourney, that cabinet would have been no different. its a tournament, thats when shit likes to break the most. we arent gonna waste the players time, especially those that came from very far to play. if worst came to worst and we couldnt fix the cabinet. we woulda put the game in one of the other 9 cabinets there lol.
and its not the arcade staff;s fault. shit breaks. shit gets worn out. thats how it is. cant always work 100% of the time. it will break after excessive use. and we dont know it needs to be replaced until the stuff stops working…
I feel Diablo. It does suck to drive an hour and a half away, pay $20 to be in a tourney and then get a bootleg machine. But I do understand the arguments of “shit not working 100% of the time”. It happens. So I guess it kinda sucks either way.
My only gripe was the blase attitude towards CvS2. Only one cab, it started late, and half the people participating were simaltaneously playing in the GG team tourney and seemed more concerned with that. I guess it sucks that I like a game that isn’t nearly as popular as other games, but still, if I’m gonna pay the same amount of money as someone who payed to be in the 3S tourney, I deserve the same amount of attention. That’s the way I look at it at least. Oh well, bottom line, I still had a great time with my friends and meeting some new people at MWC, so it was worth it in the end.
if we dont like it, we dont like it. you have to understand, that there werent any cvs2 crews there. so to take cvs2 seriously was hard. we arent taking away from the people that play it. but the fact that there were no good cvs2 players at mwc this year made it very hard to take seriously. dream and ruin in the finals automatically dismisses the tourney. neither person play the game, i got 4th and i never play the game. in our eyes there was no real cvs2 representation there. so it made it difficult to even try to take it serious. and the cab woulda been fine if the fierce problem was pointed out earlier when it was noticed. why bother switching the game to another cab when the turnout was laughable and no sign of cvs2 comp. considering also gd rom is a pain in the ass to move around. and as for numerous cabinets. we were supposed to have 2 cvs2 boards but shit hit the fan last second. so that really made it shittier cuz we had no intention of doing the whole one match garbage. no one likes that. but we had to do it.
i understand the feelings towards those that love the game and drove a long way to play. i felt really bad for you guys cuz you all came and all the major cvs2 players just happened to be last second no shows. it sucks. and its appreciated that you guys did come down to support. so dont take our jokes seriously. as shitty as i think the game is. i stil lgive the players props for some stuff they can pull off in that game…
Yeah, I understand. Really, what you said just makes me wanna get better. That’s a good thing. Oh, and about you joking around, it’s cool, i’m no stranger to sarcasm.
Hopefully, next year me and my crew can make some sort of impact!
indeed man. im sure dream wants that turnout to be as big as it can possibly be. like i said, we may not like the game, but we still support the game. and its still apart of the fighter community. i think it was kinda good we didnt get a big turnout just for the fact that the other boards fell thru. it would have been really ugly if there was a big turnout… lol
