Is Morrigan a good combination with her to put in a team? I want an all girl team and who else should I put?
I love partnering Hsien-Ko with Morrigan, because Dark Harmonizer helps make up for Hsien-Ko’s critically low meter building ability. If you manage to set up a good enough defensive front or can at least avoid your opponent long enough to build up multiple bars, Hsien-Ko can actually become threatening if you can pull off the gong / Tenraiha ball drops technique. All you need is to score that one knockdown, and so long as you have enough bars, your opponent can kiss their ass goodbye!
She-Hulk might be a good partner for Hsien-Ko as well. She-Hulk would greatly benefit from armored Pendulum assist, and you could probably extend Hsien-Ko’s combos with She-Hulk’s Torpedo assist.
The Ammy/Hsien-Ko and Morrigan team is a pretty strong one if you want Morrigan’s Dark Harmonizer assist. The problem is that you can’t play Hsien-Ko on point unless you are some sort of execution/timing wizard that never drops combos. Hsien-Ko can’t hang with Mags and a lot of the top tier at all so Ammy has to play the point game.
Senpu Bu complements her well and going gold after a shuffle is easy and you can raw tag right back into Ammy. Giving Hsien-Ko five meters to play with can also turn the tables easily against top tier characters too and it makes her Tenrai-Ha especially scary against people who like to jump and spam assist.
Hsien-Ko also benefits greatly from cold star. It gives her plenty of time to set up some pressure with overhead Anki Hou and her Pendulum which people surprisingly fall for a lot.
I’ve mentioned this before in other forums, but it doesn’t get much traction because all the other characters seem to auto-correct just fine compared to her. This is the first time I’ve seen anyone else ever mention it and it makes me happy as hell because I thought I was going crazy.
Big characters like Tron and Sent constantly make this happen…
I’ve recently picked up She Hulk as another team member to pair with Ammy, but it forces me to drop Hsien-Ko. I still keep her for my main Ammy/Lei Lei/Morgs team though.
Senpu Bu really adds a nice amount of pressure and it makes for scary glaive pressure with Ammy. She becomes nearly unstoppable if Hsien-Ko is gold too. Definitely my favorite strategy with her right now haha.
Really? I feel like Hsien-ko and Ammy are best friends, and that she can play on point with cold star backing her up. Hsien-ko combos don’t involve much out of the corner, unless you’re going for( a lot of) reset shenanigans. I don’t think she’s too bad against magneto either, imo her worst match-ups are: deadpool, trish, wolverine, and maybe cap. Tron and shuma are kind of wonky only on the fact that their hitboxes are weird and cause S to whiff most of the time during a bnb.
Yup! Hell, you can even do this: Okami Shuffle>chireitou>gold armor>okami shuffle again or do as many gong>tenraiha loops into okami shuffle. Talk about synergy!
Hsien-Ko is actually barely mediocre(and this is a great improvement) with Ammy’s cold star backing her up. It makes for some pretty good corner pressure with a decent(think two+ on the regular) amount of overheads and it makes for some half decent mixups utilizing her Senpu Bu. She definitely loses hard to Magneto though. He has an answer for everything she does.
He can easily smack her out of the sky with BS Disruptah if she uses Senpu Bu to try to move in, he can kill an air approach with electromagnetic shockwave and hypergrav can actually be scary because she is so slow. Going gold on point against him is also a terrible mistake to make with all those specials and fast startup moves he can use to punish her. Calling Ammy out carelessly means a dead dog with EM Shockwave XF EM Shockwave even on level one.
The matchup is practically 10-1 in his favor and I don’t say this from silly theorycrafting either. I’ve been using Lei Lei/Ammy/Morgs in that combination until I got to sixth lord months ago and changed the order of my team. She just doesn’t work against beam users, projectile spammers and fast characters.
This is a nice find that I never even thought about. The gong loop is so awkward to do on a pad that I can’t even bother with trying to learn it though…
I’ve seen a lot of your matches, but your main team configuration escapes me all of a sudden. What is your main team again?
He uses Chris/Hsien-Ko/Ammy from what I have seen.
Gong loop takes a lot of practice but man, when you pull it off and kill a character it feel sooooooooooo satisfying.
Shouldn’t Hsien-Ko have trouble getting in close enough to utilize Ammy’s Cold Star assist lock down unless I’m underestimating that assist?
Just be aware that any loops involving Gong are going to be pretty hard online, even moreso than usual. But yes, they are satisfying.
And yeah, he’s Chris/Ko/Ammy. He used to run Task/Ko/Chris at the beginning, I believe.
The gong loop is so damned sexy and I wish I could make it work on a pad. All I ever managed to link was three of them and I gave up on it afterwards. This was around the same time I successfully incorporated glaive combos into my regular routine with Ammy too.
Don’t even get me started on her aerial gong combos…
Yeah, this is her problem. Cold Star would be one of her best friends if she were faster. She could really run away with it in her OG Darkstalkers form.
I found that if you input the gong command just as the final wave of balls drop, you can get it to come out in time to cancel it into Super. Getting the gong out is no longer a problem for me - now I find myself sometimes cancelling it too soon and not getting the shockwave at all, thus negating the effect entirely.
i haven’t been around in awhile
hi hi!
so what is this gong tenrai-ha loop, you guys are talking about?
It’s this one:
After OTG’ing with TRH, you can use a Gong to negate the groundbounce and do another TRH. Repeat for as many bars as you want to spend/have available (best done in the corner).
The match is definitely in magneto’s favor, but it might just be me cause I don’t use senpu bu outside of pressure strings. It’s only a horizontal beam which can be jump>air dashed over or M gong to cover you. It’s not like trish or deadpool projectiles that hit her out of the gong’s blindspots. Gong spam should make a magneto come to you and attempt to stuff his tri-jump with cr.L or tenraiha(xN) if he’s gonna call an (tron/haggar/akuma tatsu) assist.
Wanna add that using a gong before tenraiha somehow resets/bypasses the ground bounce rule, this how chris is still able to use sweep combo without characters dropping out of the 2nd hit. It makes it possible to combo a tenraiha after a downward exchange or start another dhc from a dhc’d tenraiha.
Nah, this has always been my day one team though I’ve had a different order(Hko/chris/ammy)
I hate the Magneto / Hsien-Ko matchup when playing against good Magneto players that are able to fully abuse his mobility. If he realizes he can’t win the zoning war, he can be instantly in your face with a string of pressure that Hsien-Ko is just too slow to deal with. Also his light disruptor is so fucking fast if you flub one gong input and get nailed, it can be extremely difficult to start back up again. And have you seen the block chip on that fucking move?
In short, fuck Magneto.
Running Capt/Hsien/Task now. It is glorious.
okay this is something i “found” a while back (and actually have not seen it repeated for a long time now, although im certain it wasnt just my eyes playing tricks on me.) but ive completely forgotten to mention it till now (i think)
has anybody else experienced occasionally while using senpu pu (on point) that Ko will swing a LOT higher than she usually does? usually using it on the ground will make her fall quite low to the ground with just enough time for a J.H. on more than one occasion for me senpu bu has sent Ko swinging up to even higher than her regular jump height(!?) even after activating it on the ground.
best way i can describe this is to imagine the end of Ko’s chain as the “anchor” point and then rotate Ko around this anchor point around 90degrees so at the end of the swing she ends up at the top of the screen.
this happened a few times to me back when the game first came out, but havent seen it again since for a few months now. it may have been patched but im not certain. its not a glitch that is in danger of making Ko top tier (unfortunately) but wondered if anyone else has seen this. i dont recall seeing it mentioned anywhere.
I’ve been able to do mid-screen combo->mid-screen Tenraiha->X-Factor->Position for Gong/Tenraiha loop. Since it works, I’m guessing X-Factor clears out ground bounce states, or maybe the gong catches right after the Tenraiha Weight and puts them in hit stun?
Errr, what are you talking about with Chris? Like a M grenade before his Sweep Combo?
I think I might’ve seen this early on like you said, though this hasn’t happened to me recently. Speaking of glitches, I’ve had leilei troll face me 2-3 times during her hyper armor: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/820/093011222659.jpg/ (found it on gamefaqs). Kinda cute/creepy.
I’m not sure what’s exactly happening in the gong/tenraiha loop, but you can loop it after a normal tenraiha without x-factor. There’s some inconsistent rule about this, but the general idea is that only hsien-ko gong+tenraiha is allowed to bypass any ground bounce moves you did prior. Here’s a list of things I’ve tried out:
-tenraiha>gong+tenraiha(xN)>tenraiha. Stops working once you miss the gong.
-gong+tenraiha>tenraiha>gong+tenraiha works if you keep looping gong+tenraiha.
-gong+tenraiha>dhc grenade launcher>flamethrower+sweep combo works. I don’t understand why this works. Mustachio, no grenades needed.
-yet, gong+tenraiha>dhc ammy’s slow hyper> j.df+H(glaive) doesn’t work.
-chris air magnum>downward exchange>gong+tenraiha(xN) works if you keep looping it.
-gong+tenraiha>dhc akuma shinkuu>xfc>demon flip dive kick otg doesn’t work.
-gong+tenraiha>dhc deadpool guns>xfc> H katanarama>chimichangas works.
This is gonna drive me crazy all day at work.
I wonder if Magun->Sweep Combo->DHC after ground bounce knife to Tenrai would work? I’d test it out, but I really need to get running.
Maybe the Tenraiha weight is under it’s own special ground bounce category? The DHC glitch isn’t in effect, I know that much. That awful damage is proof. Oh wait… That’s just Hsien Ko in general.
Moreso than trollface, it makes me think of Awesome Face.

As overused as it is.[/details]
Or even something else…
I’m sure you guys all know Clarinet Kid. Someone do a better job than I have please.
I think I remember that glitch happening while playing at a friend’s house in Training Mode once. I was just screwing around, and then suddenly she goes flying upwards. My friend and I both said, “Did you just see that?!?” I tried playing around with it some more but could never get it to happen again. IT’S A SIGN OF A HIDDEN PENDULUM CANCEL
