MvC3: Two Girls one Corpse: The Hsien-Ko Thread!

Still can get beam Hypered pretty hard if you abuse it too much, but outside of those I say abuse away.

Best tag ever!

Pendulum assist travels lower to the ground than I expected it to. Looks less like the crutch for approaching that I expected it to be and more like a decent combo extender, even if it doesn’t swing back. Still alright at clearing away what’s in front of you and actually starts a little faster than I thought it would.

All the whining about gong assist made me expect it to have VS-like range/duration or worse, but what I saw in that video looks alright to me. :looney:

Don’t think item throw would be worth it unless the dizzy item frequency is predictable.

From the assist video, it looks like it’s random. Maybe there is a pattern, not sure. It does look like with Dark Force activated, dizzy lasts longer.

Seems Hsien-Ko gong can reflect some projectiles

PS: Nevermind, I thought this was new stuff

Y’know, a lot of people were disappointed that pendulum only swings forward and not back, but I’m thinking that’s actually better, especially with DF on. If it swung back, that would leave it a lot more screen time to get hit with beams and ice and crap, but since it just swings forward, not only does it stay on screen and vulnerable for less time, but it may even throw itself over and behind the opponent, so even if they do, say, throw out a proton cannon, Hsien-Ko should only take a few hits off of it, before she swings behind the beam. Sure it’s not as good as it could have been for filling the screen, but it should still be an amazing gtfo and a much safer one for Hsien-Ko at that.

And did anyone really expect capcom to be dumb enough to give her a full screen, slow moving, reflecting projectile as an assist? Gong will be excellent for running away and making space, if it had full screen it would be broken as fuck.

Or she hits Iron Man and cancels the proton cannon.

But that depends on how her super armor works. Assuming it does absorb all hits you take, in some games there’s hitstop when something connects with super armor, which would kind of freeze you in the air, or make her move slower at least. Can’t know which way it works, but it didn’t seem like there was much hitstop in the few cases I saw of super armor so far.

The main thing to worry about would be “catch” moves like an anti-air grab, or certain character’s level 3’s. They would probably go into animation even if you’re in super armor, but then I don’t think most of those attacks work against assists.

From her intro vid I doesn’t look like there’s much hitstop, I didn’t even notice she was getting hit the first time I watched it.

This girl is looking absolutely beastly. She has a reserved spot on my team. Can’t flocking wait until next moday. She can reflect all your projectiles while spamming you with her own. That aerial rushdown is going to be absolutely evil with the gong going. She also has that pretty safe ground attack where her fingers roll like and she slides forward. That can probably be protected by the gong also. Crazy mixup opportunities. She looks to be one of the most well equipped characters in the game.

I can’t wait to play her! I wonder what her focus is going to be. If she functions as a great assist, as a full-screen damage dealer, or if she’s going to be some sort of rush down. She’ll be interesting, partially because she’s so /weird/! Haha. I can’t wait. I love VS so much I own a machine of it. So, you can imagine how excited I am!

Also her dash teleport is amazing. I can think of all sorts of fun tricks with that involving a Modok aegis assist.

I wonder though. Can she relaunch of OTG, possibly for some character kill shenanigans (BnB, air combo, OTG, dash, relaunch, air combo, dash, hyper, KFC, hyper)?

She could a little bit of everything according to some of her videos, but then again I guess was kinda like that Vampire Savior(sick game).

I got some hands on time with the game. You don’t need to beat the game 3 seperate times to get Hsien-Ko you can get it through training mode and when you exit you get points. You can also get it from getting high scores in Arcade Mode so maybe 2-3 runs and you’ll get all characters. I’ll have some play time later today but won’t be able to get into training mode until really late tonight or tomorrow evening.

I’ll post initial impressions of Hsien-ko with limited play time and try to answer some questions that were asked before.

Didn’t get to test this at all will try to figure this out later tonight. I’m assuming c.H is low.

Also, didn’t get to test this it’s actually really hard to get in with Hsien-ko mostly because I’m not use to her in this game engine

Yes

The person I played against was unfamiliar that it’s an overhead so got caught by it a lot. There’s a brief moment where I could see the person just react to super flash and block high but can’t tell. I’ll try to test this tonight

Unfortunately no

Hsien-Ko is not susceptible to punish after the overhead, however, the super has no invinci frames so she can get hit by something random during the start up. If this happens the spiked balls will still drop. Spiked balls do not drop from the top of the screen just the relative top from where she’s grounded. So this means if they super jump and you do Tenraiha the spike balls will not drop from the top of the screen to hit their super jump. Hell some regular jumps or double jumps can avoid it.

It seemed very random to me and I couldn’t see a clear cut pattern but this requires more testing. The projectiles she throws as an assist is also randomized

Didn’t test will try tonight.

Again couldn’t test in a live environment but I think from what I saw H version does at least 4 hits. Didn’t check chip and I fought mostly sentinels so chip damage isn’t going to do much on his health. Nobody tried push blocking pendulum so not sure. I also couldn’t verify whether pendulum has absolute guard but it looks like it doesn’t because I would do weak version end of the other side and get a mix up hits bcs it crossed over.

It seemed like you could only cancel pendulum with the S button and not with a normal but you could attack immediately with a normal after wards. It also doesn’t feel like I could cancel mid swing but I was struggling with the control scheme. The default controls are ass and you have to customize it and get use to the controls.

Pendulum assist does not swing backwards and I tried holding down the assist button as previously mentioned and it didn’t cause her to swing back. Even adding bits of delays to when I held the button down didn’t do the trick. Also, to squash the argument about tagging you would only tag when holding back and the assist. Pendulum assist start up isn’t too bad but she takes a while to leave but it doesn’t look too punishable.

I hate the RDP motion for gong makes things really stupid. I didn’t test against all projectiles but vs beams I’m pretty sure she just nullifies it. Like I threw out 2 gongs waves in a row and it just nullified Sentinel’s laser. It didn’t reflect it at all

As we saw in the assist video it’s the weak version of it and doesn’t last long at all. Seems like requires precise timing to have it counter projectiles. It’s certainly not something to span.

No double air dash at least not double forward air dash. Didn’t try air dash forward, air dash back but you can cancel the air dash immediately into a normal. It didn’t appear that I could air dash afterwards but I’ll have to test.

Yes, and it’s somewhat low to the ground I might just be too slow but it’s enough to get a instant overhead

Overall impressions and various things I found out:
-She’s ridicuosly slow. Very hard time trying to get in with her through dashes and air dash even sempu bu. Super jump on the other hand felt very comfortable as a means to get in. She needs a really good assist that has a lot of block stun to get in.
-Senpu bu cancel seems awkward not sure how exactly it’s done but seems to be done with the S button. Didn’t try VS tricks like senpu bu, cancel, senpu bu.
-Gong is essential to fighting zoners but people with fast spammable projectiles are hard to deal with, with just straight Gong. You need to reset the momentum before you can control the zoning game. Sentinel laser spam just rapes her if you don’t get multiple gong shockwaves out. It doesn’t seem like you can play the full screen game against Sentinel.
-Below average health and damage output. She gets raped fast.
-Assists take no prorated damage so if she gets hit by a super as an assist she’s done or close to it. You have no idea how badly assists can get punished by poor calling. No invinci frames on her assists as well so be smart with her assists.
-Senpu bu assist controls decent frontal space but doesn’t cause a mix up situation by itself.
-You can do 3 consecutive gongs in the air before you start falling.
-Super jump she throws a chain and then pulls herself up. The angle and speed is pretty good for it.
-Air dash is stupid slow and doesn’t cover much distance. It’s good super bait as you can normal cancel after super flash but a lot of supers deal stupid good chip damage. Sentinel and Storm supers are ridiculous for this and will kill Hsien-ko really quickly.
-She doesn’t seem like a good battery to me and requires meter to be effective but it’s really early to tell.
-It didn’t feel like I could instantly follow up during a Tenrai ha spiked ball drop but I was getting annoyed with her speed so it could be a timing issue.
-Anki Hou are really fast and full screen. It feels she could play a decent zoning game with projectiles but bcs of the randomization of the projectiles it makes this strategy less feasible and there’s a lot of characters with better projectiles then her.
-Command grab is really fast. Lots of tick situations for it.
-To me, it feels like Hsien-Ko requires a team dedicated to her. She is a speciality character that just doesn’t seem to fit on just any team. She has problems getting in but once she’s in she can stay in. Rush down characters seem to rape her. Good AAA is required like something with invinci frames.
-Tenrai ha can OTG on assists. I knocked down an assist after killing the on point character and just did Tenraiha to force a mix up on the last character but it hit the assist while they were still on the ground. It didn’t kill him but you can XFC Chireitou.
-Chireitou is a really good DHC super to tag out or tag in. Causes a lot of block stun too.

Thanks for all the observations, Light! A lot of good info there.

So, pressing S cancels her swing, but does’t actually straight out preform the aerial S attack right? It just stops the swing, and allow other input afterwards, right? I assume it’s the latter, but just want to be sure.

It’s funny, I never would have expected her to be SLOW when the rumors of her being in the game surfaced… I guess it kinda makes sense, given all the weapons she has… though I doubt that should matter for a Ghost/Zombie person…

Oh, and did you try to see if she can follow up her command throw with either Hyper?

You see how she doesnt flinch in her darkforce mode… please dont put her in darkforce and then swap her out whilst on the assist when she swings… its annoying and extremely hard to deal with… thanks

No in all seriousness though Im gonna put in some work with her tonight and help out this thread… shes really slow though

Anyone think is possible or seen it in a video that between the 1st and 2nd shots of Ammy’s ice shots assist could Hsein-Ko dash teleport either side to create an ambiguous cross up attack with the 2nd cold star shot?

I don’t know for a fact if pressing S cancels the swing I was struggling with button configuration so it’s hard for me to say exactly if that’s how it was. It’s something I will be testing later tonight for sure. If S does cancel the swing you could just mash on S intentionally or accidentally and still get the attack to come out immediately. It seems like instant recovery to me.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get to test Tenraiha or Chireitou after command grab as I didn’t have enough meter to do it but it’s definitely possible you can dash in after the command grab.

I mean, she was much faster in VS but still slow but in MVC3 she just feels unnecessarily slow.

Really depends on how close you are to the opponent when cold star comes out but that forward dash is really slow so not sure if it creates a good enough mix up opportunity. That being said I don’t see why this wouldn’t work.

Hsiel ko has a lot of opportunities for mixups using her dash, it’s really good, and you can cancel it so you don’t always have to cross them up. Her dash is fantastic.

To clarify a few things the other poster said, her airdash is really good, and does cover a lot of space, a little more than half screen, and you can instant air dash into a lot of stuff. Her air normals have tremendous reach.

She is rather slow, and doesn’t do amazing damage. Definitely needs help getting in, but she plays a pretty solid zoning game and when the opportunity arises, she’s got a lot of mixups. Against a new character coming in after you kill one, hsien-ko is a nightmare.

She doesn’t have any otg moves, and I don’t think she’d benifit much from an otg assist because her damage just isn’t that great. She plays a LOT like omega red in marvel 2 in my opinion, which is a good thing imo, but she’s gonna take patience and execution, but it can pay off big.

senpu bu is the only assist worth mentioning. the gong is too slow to come out and it’s the weak version, so it’s pretty much awful against projectiles. the item throw is just random, and when you get a bomb it makes me a sad panda = (

This game is gonna be a lot about counter teams, and against a rushdown team that’s light on projectiles, she’s gonna cause trouble. Against a team that’s trying to lame you out, she’s going to be in trouble. Plan on having some variety if you wanna play this game in tournaments, cause 1 team just won’t cut it.

If you guys have any questions, holla at me. I’m checking this and the dormammu thread a couple times a day. I like hsien-ko alot and I think someone who has mastered her is gonna get big dividends, but it’s gonna take a LOT of work. She’s one of the most complicated characters to play in my opinion.
